photog72: you're probably right. You know the guy and I don't. And I think you hit it on the head: weather geekery is a form of geekery that doesn't compute for me. The guy who got me started with hating the weather geeks was Paul Kocin.

I vaguely remember a weather class in college...

I think I'm going to be in trouble next weekend drink wise. What a light weight I was tonight. I got seriously buzzed after two bud lights. Maybe the $1 price had something to do with it.

You need to start a training plan before Friday.

More than a few. In addition to the ones that ALCO has talked about, I have had a great wheat beer in the Belgian style that was brewed in Texas, I think Austin. It was called Celis White.

You should try St. Arnold's (generally available only in the Houston area). IMO, it's the best craft brew in Texas. They don't pasteurize the beer, and don't ship out of Texas. At most grocery stores in town, it's rare to find a six-pack of St. Arnold's that's more than a month old.

List of Beers Here

One of the great things about my favorite movie place, Alamo Drafthouse, is that they serve St. Arnold's and do St. Arnold's rotating ^

Good night, Box!

If memory serves me well this is correct. This is the beer that has orange peel in the brewing process if I recall. I made a version of this in my beer class in college (thought was a tough 16 weeks).

NOLA Suggestions

Evening/Morning Boxers:

I will be hitting up NOLA for the first time and was wondering what yall thought was the best way to get from the airport to downtown. I was debating on the Shuttle or the public bus.

ALso besides the French Quarter, Café Du Monde, One of Emril's or Commanders Palace, the WWII Museum, and the CRC at the airport anything else you would recommend?

Definitely hop the St. Charles Streetcar up to Tulane if you get the chance as it'll give you a nice tour of the houses in the Garden District. Preservation Hall is alright if you like jazz, but I haven't been there since the hurricane.

Shiner Bock's not bad... On par with some of the microbrews we get up our way. Haven't tried St.Arnold's. I like to try the local micros wherever I go, but I have yet to find another region in the US that has as many and as excellent microbrews as we get up here in New England. I would say Maine and Vermont hold the crown for the combination of taste, quality, and variety. Allagash probably brews the best domestic ales I've tried. Gritty's makes an excellent selection of brews (better from a tap in one of their brewpubs, but will do from a bottle in a pinch) . Magic Hat is a little bigger, but has great variety and are always trying something new, in addition to the good ol' favorites. The list is long and distinguished...

Try some of the "hole in the wall" cajun bars. I don't think I've ever had bad food in NOLA.

Celis is (or was) brewed by an actual Belgian who was the original brewer of Hoegaarden in the days before it was bought by InBev.

I recall Celis being one of the few non-Belgian beers sold in supermarkets when I lived in Belgium 15 years ago.

I don't like beer that much to drink(pardon me!) but I enjoy it a lot in marinades and seasonings, and I rather like the flavor of Rarh and Sons

I have used the Summertime Wheat and the Oktoberfest with great results ;)

Oh, I have. There are some very touristy places in the Quarter now that are turning out the Creole equivalent of Bennigan's.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8830/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

So far this Trinidad trip has been a mess. I forgot my passport at home, but at least I remembered before missing my train to the airport. Than I realized that I forgot my books. I even went out of my way to buy a book by a Trinidadian to have something topical to read.

On the train it is packed and there was a woman lounging across a 3 seat. She was pretty pissed when I sat down next to her.

Hopefully an expertly mixed PC Bloody Mary will turn things around in a hurry for me.
