I am going to Nepal and Tibet in July, and since ST is lacking in mid-asia assitance except for Korean, I went for the the best available. Now, I burn through my miles as fast as I get them, so I only had about 105k to work with. So, it's SAT-IAH-AMS on CO, a strategic overnight for...uh....AMS things , then its AMS-DEL on KL, 2 nights there at the Le Meridian, and then DEL-KTM on S2 (JetLite)...all in Y, then the coolest return, S2 KTM-DEL, a 5 hour layover, then DEL-EWR on CO in BF, and EWR-SAT in F. All for 105,000 miles and $140 for the S2 segs DEL-KTM-DEL + about $60 in taxes. I don't know about you, but that seems a helluva deal, considering it would cost $2700+ to pay for it in Y.

theblakefish is a happy camper. Why says you can't find the routing/mileage you need? It took like 1 hour of looking to book! :D :D :D ^

Very cool Itinerary. ^

Long time no see. Welcome back to The Box.

Attn Elite Desk Rep whom I'm speaking to:

NO! I will not pay a change fee and a fare difference to change flights when YOU, CONTINENTAL, changed my flights. ARHH!!!!

Hang up, try again. Third-world airlines that prominently display photographs of the Dictator Du Jour in their aircraft cabins provide better telephonic customer service than some CO Reps.

I did just that and got an excellent rep named Gladis. When I questioned the other rep on why I would be charged and read aloud the COC to her, her response was "mhm." I then asked if this was the elite desk and her response was a soft "mhm." I said told her that this was ridiculous, thanked her for her time and hung up (this was after 5 minutes of convincing her there actually was a schedule change by CO). I wish I got her name because I'd like to write a complaint about her to CO. She got real nasty with me right when I told her I should'nt have to pay the change fee and fare difference. Oh well, thank goodness Gladis picked up the phone.

I may put my growing pile of BD miles to work whenever QR launches IAH-DOH nonstop...

A380?

The 380 did not work with my schedule, but I am considering modifying the schedule to make the 380 possible. Heading to CPT, then hitting the bachelor party in AMS on the way back.

Excellent! CPT should be lovely that time of year. I'm most jealous. It's next on my list for redemptions (with CO, either ST or *A, depending on when I redeem). Unfortunately, the Significant Otter probably won't get significant time off during Christmas/New Year's this year, as she'll be at the bottom of the scheduling totem-pole as an intern. Technically, they do get two weeks vacation in their Internship year, so hopefully we'll be able to get over there by July of 2010.

You currently can do IAD-DOH.

I make it a point not to check them when I work the weekend.

Yeah...$265 r/t to POS this weekend. I picked up another $50 fare for POS-TAB-POS and I'll get to experience both islands in 36 hours. Oh, and 5-day EUAs both directions. :D

Barely good for this time of year. Fares have been much lower in the past, or at least comparable. I went in 2005 for $330 a/i and in 2001 for probably about $300 a/i, though that one was tied to a EWR-MSP-EWR itinerary, too.

Those are pretty good fares. I'd love to grab the STT fare but I know my wife would kill me. This weekend is already enough to have her a bit on edge.

In other news, the flight down to POS was phenomenal. My glass stayed full of rum & ginger ale and the FAs were top notch. The two serving the F cabin actually both live in Tobago so I got some tips and pointers to help out with my quick trip. This is what I wrote while on the plane:

What a great flight crew

They didn't really do anything all that special. They just stood up to the standards that Continental typically sets and they did it with smiles on their faces.

The crew I had on the flight to POS tonight was outstanding on just about every level. Drinks stayed filled throughout the flight. They were willinbg to engage in conversation and had great stories to tell. And they even gave me some tips about what to do and, more importantly, what not to do while in Trinidad and Tobago this weekend.

It is flights like tonight's - plus the upgrades - that keep me rather loyal to CO.
I'd post this as a new thread but I'd get beat on for being a cheerleader. The fact is that they did really good tonight, and I have no qualms about cheering that on.

Oh, and i cleared immigration and customs in less than 15 minutes. Piece of cake. I'm sure that it helped that I was the first one off the plane, but the FAs had me worried that it could take hours. No such troubles.

The only problem I have seen thus far is no data service on my BB here. I've got four bars of signal, but the gprs won't go to GPRS so no data service. :( Fortunately the free wifi in the POS terminal is sufficiently speedy to keep me online on my layover.

About 30 minutes until my flight to TAB. :D

I am planning to stay at the Westin in CPT - it looks great and I can get a very good rate there. Thoughts?

I absolutely loved that hotel. If the weather is nice, it's only about a 15 minute walk to some very nice restaurants/bars (in an area quite similar to Baltimore's Inner Harbor).

If I were you, I would rent a car. The highway and road system there as well-designed (if not better) than anything in the U.S. and Europe. They are a bit weird though, as they call traffic-lights "robots." Having a car is key for getting around for sightseeing on the Cape.

What type of aircraft to TAB?

Yeah...did that before I came in here to post.

Oh, and FWIW, I have comment cards filled out for the two phenomenal FAs on my flight tonight. I'll mail them when I get back to the states on Monday. Really a good flight experience overall.

I'm pretty sure my POS-TAB flight is on A/C 9Y-WIP. Posting that here because there's a pretty good chance I won't remember when I land. ;)

DASH8-300. Not particularly sexy nor exotic, but certainly functional.
