The show talked about it as his first flight on AF1. That was not the case in either use of the term.

If it was Bush's first flight the definitions would have been correct. Because it's Obama, and to a lesser extent because he's of the media-friendly party, facts are mere roadblocks to a good story.
It still bugged the aerogeek inside of me. |

Well if it was after noon on last Tuesday that he flew, an AirForce F-16 would be AirForce one as long as he is on board. But I dont think he has flown anywhere since becoming president.

It was just his first flight on an official aircraft, from Midway to Andrews, two weeks before the Inauguration, correct?
So, the callsign was not Air Force One and the plane he was on (a 752) was not even the typical Air Force One (what the NatGeo show was all about). |

Anyone think 15,000mi. is decent for a one-way upgrade on an IAH-PTY flight that is showing C1 D1 Z1 A1? I'd rather not sit in the back for four hours, and I think I can handle the loss of 15K RDM. Essentially, that would just eat up most of this year's Extra Mile Bonus.

Midway to Andrews - correct. I'm no sure exactly when the flight took place, but it was pre-inauguration.

I'd rough it in Y as well - 4 hours in an exit row aisle (assuming that is where you are) is tolerable.
I have a hard time using miles to upgrade to a domestic F seat. |

I suppose it is worth it if you really really do not want to sit in the back. I would tough it out in coach, but that is just me. I survived 11 hours in a CO coach seat last week, although it was on a 764 with no one sitting next to me or accross from me.

I see. This is something that needs to be rectified post-haste! :D
I actually had to pause the AFO special when he ordered the burger medium-well as I was laughing and crying so hard. My wife was making fun of me for voting for a guy who doesn't even know how to order a burger. The whole thing was wrong. On the plus side, he did take the fries, in addition to whatever vegetables he was talking about. |

No caveat for a 752?
A 752 to FL is too short of a flight. The rare 752 transcons are impossible to get mileage upgrades on (and there is still the AVOD in the back). I suppose the only time I'd use miles to upgrade myself on a (non-European) 752 would be to LIM (or similar distance) if the upgrade chances looked like a long shot. |
