Big threads of this nature can be problematic to the database. At 20K posts it simply makes sense to archive.

We didn't even have accumulation on the North side near IAH (except on cars). I saw some ireport photos on CNN from the East side of Galveston bay where more than an inch accumulated. :eek:

I can kind of understand it but in a thread that handles no pictures, no avatars, etc. the load is only text, this shouldn't be that big of an issue. Sounds like someone needs to load-balance the MySQL instance.

There is not one specific database or table dedicated to this thread. Instead, there is likely a single table in a single database that holds references for all of the posts on FT. The 20k posts in this thread are a drop in the bucket when it comes to FT as a whole. When loading an individual page of The Box, the query pulls only the last X number of posts to generate the page - it's not pulling down all 20k+ posts.

Plus, there are several other threads on here that contain far more posts.

I did, thanks to Delta Air Lines.

160,000 Delta Air Lines SkyMiles did the trick, and because Concorde had already stopped flying by the time of my return flight, I was refunded 40,000 SkyMiles.

That reminds me: I really do need to finally finish this trip report...
