I took off from DFW about 15 minutes before you posted that; the storms were quite impressive from the air.

When will you be around today or tomorrow?

Both.

Arriving on the 330 DL shuttle from LGA (so, I'll be there anywhere between 4:05 and 9pm). Leaving tomorrow on the 630p DL shuttle. So, I'll be there from anywhere between 5p and Friday.

In regards to reduction in travel - really? Not on the routes I'm flying. There were 60+ elites on my PBI - EWR flight yesterday. :eek:

I would attribute any reduction in passenger numbers to the absurd cost of tickets lately. Kinda/sorta needed to go to Louisville next week but the $900 flights kaboshed that. Video conference works. Not as well, but it's sufficient.

If airlines weren't so greedy they could have sold me the seat(s) for $450, made a handsome profit on the route, but now they're shuttling around an empty seat.

US Airlines are run about as well as US car companies in my opinion.

At least they have sirens!

When I lived in Irving, there was a siren across from my complex (next to an elementary school) and the first time it went off, I thought it was the end of the world.

You can only cut capacity so much before your network is useless to business travelers, or you open yourself up to serious competition.

I think WN likes times like this since it allows them to do strategic expansions to fill in the gaps. AA needs to worry about WN at LGA. I think CO is safe at EWR for the foreseeable future

I had a similar experience during my freshman year in college. I went to school in the midwest and the first time the sirens went off I had no clue what was going on.

In NJ, we ignore/laugh at tornado warnings.

I wonder when the airlines will take a page from retail and start slashing fares significantly, considering we haven't seen oil this low in years.

Fares to BRU, perhaps?

Here's hoping. I have a $300 VDB Cert. to play with from this weekend. I'm wondering whether I should be a good boy and apply it to that trip (which I had already planned on budgeting some of my Christmas bonus for), or whether I should turn it into a new trip altogether. :D

I also have a $300 VDB cert that I was planning on using for this trip. Of course, in my head that leads me to increase the fare by upgrading and/or adding a USH segment. I need to get it through my head that the fare is high enough as it is!

Back to back weekends of TATLs in the back of the bus - am I crazy? :confused: I've only done 1 other TATL in the back and it wasn't that bad...

EDIT: I'm scaring myself now!

My record has been three consecutive weekends of TATL travel in whY:

EDI-EWR-BNA-EWR-EDI;
EDI-EWR-SJU-EWR-SNN-BHX-EDI;
EDI-AMS-IAH-BNA-IAH-CDG-MAN-EDI

I was feeling a bit lightheaded at the end of it all.

In the old days I used to go TATL and to South Am in the back all the time.
Now I have become spoiled thanks to FT :D

I've flown to MEL and HKG in Y. Of course I was younger and I didn't notice it so much then, but it is doable. I had a Y back from HKG six years ago; that was my last long haul in Y (I started drinking in the RCC and didn't stop until I was out). I'm sure I COULD do it again, but I wouldn't want to do it.

I'll be doing BRU down-the-back. Gotta get the EQMs. 2009 is going to be a rough road for requal.

Joe Sharkey has an interesting article in the NYT today regarding theft from bags. Beyond the annoying comment from the TSA that they rely on the neighborhood watch system to deter theft during screening, it also suggested that elite tags might make our bags targets during the process. Never thought of it that way....

Been there my friend. I had a very painful drop from Plat to Silver a couple years ago due to a job change. I had not been getting many upgrades, but not being able to get exit row was a big challenge for this big guy.
