Ya, the taxes are a deal breaker there. I wish there would have been FLL or anywhere to TX. Next option is getting a rental car at EWR and driving somewhere. I have yet to drive a car up here so I will try to stay away from the city but does anyone have any suggestions on where to go? I was thinking Niagra Falls but I heard that was pretty boring (which would be good because I need to study). Plus that would give me some extra HHonors stays on the cheap.

There some nice wine country in the Canada side of the falls if that's your thing. Ice wine is the local specialty and good. I think the harvest for the ice wine is in January, though, when they have a festival of sorts. |
Driving NYC-Niagra is a ridiculously long trip. I'd look at B6 flights to BUF rather than drive it.
Oh, and it is pretty crappy as a place to go. |
After a night at the Palm with cruisr and travelbosslady and three other full tables of the local travel industry, I think we might have served to recruit a few new FTers. The talk of the table for a short time was The Box, effectively cutting cruisr and I off from the rest of the table. The filet was perfect medium rare with no char, the creamed spinach was excellent as usual, and the drinks were larger and stronger than my last trip. ^ all around. cruisr would chime in I'm sure, but she is trapped in a suite at Sheraton ACY with a dead crackberry.

What do you suggest as an alternative....and remember I have been stuck here in the city for almost 2 months now with out a flight. The car option I think will win as its cheap and gas is cheap but I have no idea where to go?

Ahh yes, I really miss those good ol' days.
And it really wasn't that long ago either. My last IAH-West Coast flight on a 767 was just over five years ago. |
In Jan of '05 I was on a 764 LAX-IAH.

On the plus side, 5-day EUA to ATL this Saturday.
Today's ATL-IAH 73G flight even had an empty seat in F, and nobody still on the upgrade standby list. On a Monday! |

It's rare I don't get a 5 day EUA to/from ATL.

My ATL-IAH flight today was pretty empty in Y. Most middle seats were empty, and the ones that were taken mostly appeared to be parties of three or families with kids traveling. My IAH-DAL flight had a whopping 13 — yes, 13 — passengers on it. I've taken that very same IAH-DAL flight on Monday afternoon before when it was oversold and they were trying to bump people to the next flight. While waiting for that flight at B-84 , I counted only about 40 passengers. Both ATL and IAH were dead today. Really dead. |

Yep, when there were multiple 767/777/DC-10 daily flights to SFO, LAX, MSY, MCO, and EWR from IAH, and the 752 was a small plane on the EWR-West Coast flights.

It seems right now hardly anybody is flying. I had flights that had less than a 50% load factor the week of Thanksgiving. No wonder US was willing to sell me a F ticket for so little.

I used miles to upgrade BL JR on the return LAX-IAH and our flight Christmas Eve. Probably a mistake and poor use of miles, but what are miles for? Our Christmas Eve flight (IAH-LAX) looks surprisingly empty. I booked my parents pretty cheap OMA-IAH-OMA on New Year's Eve. Heck, BL JR may make Co* this quarter ;) |

My second ever CO mailine flight was on a brand new 777 between EWR and IAH and back a few days later after a lot margaritas around meetings in SAT. Those were great flights and I thought the IFE was top notch back then. My only issue with 752's is that I use to fly in them all the time with NW as their replacment for the 727s. I had plenty of 1 hour long flights in them between MSP and FAR. Still love the steep climb take-offs NW does with them.
