I recall rereading in the week before the storm or after that the DC-3 was moved to either COs facilities at HOU or IAH.

On another note, here is an idea for the DO! Perhaps for Plats CO could give flights in the DC-3. Many of us would vie for that just as much as the similator! Calling COInsider???? Heck I would even pay for that flight!

OTOH, by doing this it's also a tacit admission that their BE product does not hack it for some markets, no?

The flurry of announcements of new J products combined with what sounds like a fairly ambitious retrofit schedule leads me to believe that DL is well aware of the fact that their current BE product is a bit behind the times.

Not me. I'm not sure I see the point.

Afraid not. It appears the apocalypse has come and gone. Unsurprisingly, the population of Houston appears to be identical post-rapture as it was pre-rapture.

Mark your calendar for 2018. Don't forget to express your extreme displeasure with CO after long delays for deicing at IAH. Our earthquake-preparedness is also woefully inadequate.

I've heard they're building hurricane preparedness centers at ORD and DTW.

You know... Just in case.

It is absolutely stellar. Some of the best writing I have seen on teh intertoobz, bar none.

Not as good as the one involving the woman doing the can can (among other things) in F on a LHR-CAI flight.

I know. I love how one passenger on that thread who hasn't flown CO in years is judging their entire operation based on a weather event that lasted 7-8 hours yesterday at IAH. An event that's an extremely rare occurrence in Houston, especially in early December, and was worse than was forecasted.

Agreed. The JFK and DTW fiascos were inexcusable but I don't think anyone should expect IAH to have full deicing capabilities in place at the drop of a hat. It sounds like a night full of unfortunate events but that's all it was.

I only look at the aircraft porn (I blame CoInsider for me using that phrase now) over there so no need to spend money over there. Actuall it's that place that brought FT to my attention .

I had one women the other week who said "I've been flying in and out of Newark for 20 years and never had a weather delay before"

Thought these were interesting...

Some creative pictures from inside the abandoned T2 at SFO.

Usually deicing at IAH means it's early in the morning, the temperature was about 30-31 overnight, and there was just enough moisture in the air to put a little frost on the wings of the aircraft while they were parked overnight. That's the type of deicing that IAH is used to, and it's quick and generally only needed to be done for some of the early morning departures. After that the sun comes up and temperature quickly rises, and it's over with.

I wonder why they are doing this. They have plenty of 76s available to make these runs. Also, don't forget that they are running a lot of their Africa operations from JFK using 757s with a tech stop.

Well, I know that NW is in the process of dropping 75s left and right. Citi was going to buy a bunch of them and then they got hit and dropped the deal.

How many of DL's 76s are owned? I know a lot of the 763s are not ETOPS. I also suspect they are in the midst of mothballing a bunch of the 763s in favor of the 752s. It's also very possible/likely that they aren't seeing the kind of market share they hoped out of JFK. FRA, for example, has 1x744 and 1x333 from LH and 1x744 on SQ.

I read somewhere that they are moving some of the 76s to Asia (including PDX-NRT, I believe). Perhaps they feel they're more valuable over there.

That's just pretty crazy. It would be one thing to replace the NW 757s floating around the pacific, completely different to transition SEA/PDX/SFO-NRT to 332s. Though, the announced SLC-NRT service will be on a 332 so they are sticking to it in some capacity.

I'm personally waiting for DL to screw up the NRT hub. I don't think it's a matter of IF, just a matter of when and lose that cash-cow.
