There was a lot of searching by her to find my model. After the wedding she found out that the Bf-109 is not my favorite German plane (Fw-190) but that I liked the pilot and his story and the fact that I met him before he passed away. She understood.

People at the wedding were confused, my uncle (a retired Air Force pilot) could not figure out why there was a plane with Iron Crosses on the wings.

Great story. I have a custom-painted F-16 with my name under the canopy rails and a tail number of my choice in the paint job of my former outfit. 2xAIM-120, 2xAIM-9, 2x2,000-lb. GBU, 2x wing tanks hanging off of it. Come to think of it, I have a few hours before I leave for the NJD-PIT game. Maybe I'll throw some shots of it up.

Call Duff Goldman's shop. They did the DL 767 I mentioned the other day and it came out really nicely. Last I looked, they were booked thru EOY 08, but for mid-09 you might be able to book the cake and get a flight out of going to get it.

I actually looked into having them do something (she is a big fan of Ace of Cakes). They also did a WN 737. Unfortunately, their prices (including delivery from BWI) would fall into the insanely expensive category.

The Significant Otter got me a Mahogany Model of a 744 one year for christmas. It's a beauty. I know that some company/workshop out of Quebec makes them. The Saskatoon Airport had a shop with some of them for sale. Wish I hadn't lost their business card, as I can't seem to find manufacturer info online. :(

Does it get any better without delivery? I'd help you out if you wanted to go get it.

Why is it that at least 60% of my clients have DBAs whose personalities, willingness to do what you ask, and overall common sense level can best be described by a big fat ?

Because they are DBAs, and they know best. I've actually found that most in-house IT folks are that way. Eventually someone explains to them that the company is paying us a lot of money for our expertise/knowledge/experience and the in-house folks sometimes come around, but it can be quite a fight.

Nice to know (for me anyway) that I'm not the only one noticing this. And I'm not an IT person.

The delivery is $175 an hour (6-8 hour drive round trip) so it's a decent chunk of money. I'm sure their cakes alone are extremely expensive as well. I just can't see spending that kind of money on something that will just be cut up and consumed. Thanks for the offer though! ^

They also give the following warning on their site:

We do not recommend clients self-transport cakes over 2 hours, especially if 3D or structural elements are involved. Customers who choose to travel longer distances with cakes do so at their own risk.

My feelings on cakes are that everything should be edible. Cakes of that ilk from Charm City are usually made with fondant frosting,:rolleyes: which is nasty and (to me) inedible. Without a decent frosting why bother having have cake?

The F-16 is definitely one of my favorite birds. With the future of the F-22 in question when Obama takes office it looks like the F-16s and F-15s will get more air time around the country.

Many people do say that about wedding cakes, but the photos, the experience, and the story behind why it was done are IMO priceless.

18k EQMs and a day in LIM or a DSLR...

Hmmm... :)

I agree completely. We're paying top dollar for our photographer and going with a more basic but nice (and hopefully tasty!) cake.

The F-22 is just jaw-dropping in person. There's also the small matter that sometime during the first term of 43, the USAF announced that they will not be buying any more F-16's. :( While I see the point behind it with life cycle issues and such, I have a real problem with the more advanced Block 60 and higher aircraft going to foreign air forces, even if they are allies. OTOH, the DoD announced more than once that they were killing the A-10.

You don't have to play the same club. You typically have privileges at other courses. Our club in an Arnold Palmer course so we have privileges to all Arnold Palmer courses. Our club is far from stuffy (and certainly doesn't exclude people). And they have a great wine club, which is my main activity there :)

I've never had fondant, but I'm thinking that the purpose of a Duff cake is the artistry and maybe not necessarily the taste. And besides, not to defend a dog and pony show, but thick frosting can be overcome by good quality cake.
