I think most of the gold-leaf on their twisty-spire got peeled off by Hurricane Ike.

I learned the hard way on the last trip down how many toll roads are around MC:rolleyes:. Wow.

Why does that look like it could be the backdrop for a new and improved Definding the Caveman set, or like they stole it right out of History of the World, Part 1?

Dunno. But that sect goes all out when they build churches.

The drive up 59 is fun, too. You get a good look at the architectural monstrosity that is La Luz Del Mundo Church.

That place is such a disaster. It took them like five years to build it, too. I always had to drive past it going up to my hometown and could not believe how long it took, and how it kept seeming to get bigger and bigger during the construction.

I looked up the Plate Pass program. It looks like it's often $2.50/day, with a maximum of about $10/rental. In Houston it only works on the non-gated EZ Tag lanes, which means at most tolled entrance and exit ramps, you have to pay cash. Apparently there's no tag in Houston in the car. Instead they just use the photo enforcement system and bill only the toll, not the violation.

The service isn't even an option in the Dallas area. :td: That's probably because the NTTA is already set up with its own similar system for collection of tolls by mail for non-tag holders. The problem there is the rental car companies taking advantage of that situation to charge ridiculous processing fees.

It was. I don't know if they're switching to the same transponder HCTRA and Texas Tag are using or not, though.

I've seen that one. At least their name leaves no doubts about what business they're in, as opposed to the "Spas" that might confused an uninformed customer who goes in expecting to get a mani/pedi and a facial.

OK, those types of spas might provide facials, but not the kind you'd get at one of the day spas in the Galleria.

Oh My

All of this Texas toll talk makes me oddly thankful to live in a small state. Sure, we're the butt of thousands of bad jokes, we have WAAAAY too many people here, and the government doesn't trust the citizenry to execute something as simple as a left turn. Our highway system is corrupt as anything, but at least we're down to two holding agencies. The NJHA owns the Parkway and the Turnpike, and the SJTA owns ACY and the Expressway. The tags work great on all three roads.

Robbers in drag get millions in Paris jewel theft
By JEAN-PIERRE VERGES – 1 hour ago
PARIS (AP) — Armed robbers — some disguised as women — snatched euro85 million ($108 million) worth of diamond rings, necklaces and luxury watches from a Harry Winston boutique on a posh Paris avenue in one of the largest jewel heists in history, officials said Friday.

Yeah, I had NO clue when I flew in to MCO earlier this year and drove over to DAB to visit a buddy and work the 24 Hours of Daytona.

I generally only ever had to use the Beach Line in MCO (formerly known as the Bee Line). Two 75 cent drops were not worth getting the tag. The turnpike might be but I was never on it in my recent visits. I remember one other toll out east of town towards Samford but not much else.

The lovely Central Florida Greenway, right? I'd never heard of it, and when we were driving it, all of the bad jokes about NJ and tolls were coming to mind.
