Well, I might be bitter too if I lived in Spring and had to endure the ride down the not so lovely North Freeway every day past the massage parlors, discount furniture stores, no-tell motels, and XXX bookstores every day. :p

I wonder if the Significant Otter would like a gift-certificate to "Babylon Spa" for Christmas.

Probably not the best of ideas, unless you want the Significant Otter to be neither Significant nor an Otter.

Looks like I'll be limiting myself to Saturday-Morning PC DO participation. As sbm12 suggested, the offer for conflicting flights is a refund via travel cert. I can't get that SAT-PTY L fare to work for any other available dates, and can't rack up the same amount of miles (which I will need next year) with the same amount of $$$. I can, however, harass others via drunk-dial/text from PTY. :D

Bummer.

The "Adult Modeling Studio" I always see riding into town on I-45 also looks super-classy.

I've seen that one. At least their name leaves no doubts about what business they're in, as opposed to the "Spas" that might confused an uninformed customer who goes in expecting to get a mani/pedi and a facial.

OK, those types of spas might provide facials, but not the kind you'd get at one of the day spas in the Galleria.

I hear Midtown is nicer. However, presently, I only live a few miles from IAH. It's fairly easy to flee the city when necessary (i.e., every weekend). I fear this will be more difficult living in Midtown or The Heights (where I plan to move after the Wedding).

From The Heights I take the Hardy toll road and it's only a 15 minute drive straight into the airport.

And I drive like an old man.

Side note: The Hardy toll road is a pain when you're returning a car and need to fill up on gas. I didn't realize it would drop me right at the airport, so I ended up having to circle around and make a few u-turns to get back to a gas station. They should have put a gas station right at the airport exit.

Otherwise, a very quick and convenient drive.

Yes. The Hardy-Spur's dropoff point onto JFK Blvd also makes it very inconvenient to get to most of the off-site parking lots (which are either on Greens Road or further south on JFK).

From where I live, I take back-roads (Rankin to Aldine-Westfield to Greens Road to JFK), which appears to be just as fast as the Hardy or Beltway. It used to be even quicker, when Rankin ran all the way to Greens, before the runway got redone. You could also park on the side of Rankin by the General Aviation area and watch the KL 742-SUD take off. ^

You can also take the Hardy and then get off at Beltway 8, turn right (east), and head for the airport exit from Beltway 8. That will dump you onto JFK Blvd. about a mile south of where the Hardy does, and you'll pass a couple of gas stations before you get to the car rental center. It does involve going through two traffic lights, one at the Hardy and Beltway, and the other at JFK and Greens, but travel time would be about the same as taking the Hardy all the way to the airport and then making the U-turn to a gas station.

I used to always take the Hardy to/from IAH when I lived in Houston.

I still take it now when I'm there, if I've remembered to get change for the tollway. Not having an EZ-Tag in the rental car is a major pain.

Good to know! That will come in handy in February.

Yeah, but it's not really that much of a pain to exit to the Beltway and cut over to JFK from there.

You can exit the airport exit on the Hardy but then take the Aldine-Westfield exit from it and get on Greens there. There are a few gas stations on Greens.
