It's cold up here. The cold produces desperate thoughts!

Houston didn't seem like that bad of a place. I could see myself living in a nice Midtown loft...

I'd bet you buy your undies at K-Mart and watch Wapner every night at 7. You probably just left QF off your profile so it wouldn't be bleedin' obvious. :D

There are parts of Texas that are fine. AUS or CRP are perfectly nice. Even SAT and ELP are decent. Just steer clear of IAH, DFW, or anything in the Panhandle.

I beg to differ. CRP is just alright. AUS is nice but being there last weekend reminded me why I am hesitant to live there.

SAT has a bigger traffic problem than AUS and ELP is, well, ELP.

I like the FW part of DFW and the panhandle has been good to me. I definitely wouldn't mind somewhere like Lampasas or Ellinger.

How dare you slander the host city of the Flagship Whataburger! :p

Besides the Flagship Whataburger and the USS Lexington, CRP is somewhat boring for me...

The nicest thing about CRP is being able to purchase a 3BR bayfront home for less than what a 1BR apartment in Manhattan would cost. That, and the fact that you can grow Texas Ruby-Red Grapefruit in your backyard, if you so choose.

The foreigners are starting to catch on, though. I've heard a lot of retirees from California have started snapping up bayfront (and beachfront, on the Island) property there, having heard about it through children stationed at the Naval Air Station, or otherwise. It's one of the last spots in the U.S. where you can get ocean or bayfront property relatively cheap. Also, it's not like Corpus Christi Bay is a festering eyesore like Galveston Bay. The water is actually blue-green.

Yep. I had family there (a lot of Czechs there) and they all had houses either on the water or darn close. The water is much nicer but the beaches themselves are not the nicest. I'd definitely prefer CRP to Galveston.

ALso, a gen'l. question to the box boys (and girls). How much time in a day do you spend on FT? It seems whenever I pop in all of the green lights are on.....Do you just keep FT open all the time and do other stuff?

I always have the FT window open. And I am more often than not clicking around in here. I spend entirely too much time on FT and I know it. I do have other things going on most of the time, like the meeting I'm sitting in right now, but I'll flip back over to FT reasonably often when I'm bored.

I wouldn't mind living on South Padre Island, but the lack of jobs down there is a bit of a non-starter. If I could find a decent job in Harlingen or Brownsville, I might consider it. They do have a Federal District Court down there, and I would imagine they have a fair amount of Jones Act or Maritime claims litigated there.

That pretty much sums up my FT usage as well (including the being on here too much). It's always open in a tab and flip back and forth through out the day. When I'm not here, it still stays open.

You can get a mansion for what you would pay for a 1br apartment in Midtown. From what Ive seen they are running anwhere from 600-1.5mil+.

You could probably count on one or two hands the number of houses in CRP that cost that much. If I had to guess, the names associated with the deeds would likely be Driscoll, O'Connor, and Wyatt.

Here Ya Go.

3BR/3Bath, Hardwood Floors, Multi-Balconies, Large Backyard, 2,650 square feet, Bay View, walking or cycling distance to downtown CRP. $439,000 asking price.

Since we've both been gone (the partner is in the air over the Atlanta on his way home now), there's no Christmas decorations up here yet. We have two small trees, both sized for the apartments we were each living in, but the new loft really could use about a 12 foot tree, like our next door neighbors have. Somehow our two little four foot trees are going to look like the Charlie Brown tree in here with our 18 foot ceiling.

However, we may just have to wait until next year before investing in a bigger tree and the decorations to go on it.
