However, we may just have to wait until next year before investing in a bigger tree and the decorations to go on it.

You heathens with your trees. I've already erected the Aluminum Pole. The Festivus decorations are complete.

ALso, a gen'l. question to the box boys (and girls). How much time in a day do you spend on FT? It seems whenever I pop in all of the green lights are on.....Do you just keep FT open all the time and do other stuff?

Too much — and I tend to just keep it open and multi-task.

Morning. What is the name of the restaurant at the Pier? I love hanger steak.

Sonsie...the place you all almost went for Mom's birthday. It's the first one on the left when you come up the escalator from Caesars' casino floor.

Yes. I could be doing 5 or 6 other things, but one tab of my Internet is nearly always on FT and I refresh the My FT page every so often to get the new posts.

Houston didn't seem like that bad of a place. I could see myself living in a nice Midtown loft...

It's not a bad place at all, if you live in town. Midtown/Montrose/Heights/Museum District/Downtown/Uptown are all great areas with a lot going on, generally easy commutes (if you don't work for one of those crazy companies that's in a suburban office park), usable public transit, and tons of great bars, restaurants, and other entertainment options.

Ack! I'd much rather live in Houston or Dallas than Corpus Christi!

Austin and San Antonio have awful traffic — I generally find it to be worse than Houston's (keep in mind that in my years of living in Houston, I almost never had a work commute longer than 5 miles or that involved getting on a freeway). I find San Antonio, Corpus, and El Paso perfectly decent places to visit for the weekend, but not places I'd ever want to live.

That alone would not make the city livable. That's not to say that a trip there isn't a worth pilgrimage that is equivalent to Mecca when it comes to lovers of the Whataburger. :p

The nicest thing about CRP is being able to purchase a 3BR bayfront home for less than what a 1BR apartment in Manhattan would cost. That, and the fact that you can grow Texas Ruby-Red Grapefruit in your backyard, if you so choose.

The foreigners are starting to catch on, though. I've heard a lot of retirees from California have started snapping up bayfront (and beachfront, on the Island) property there, having heard about it through children stationed at the Naval Air Station, or otherwise. It's one of the last spots in the U.S. where you can get ocean or bayfront property relatively cheap. Also, it's not like Corpus Christi Bay is a festering eyesore like Galveston Bay. The water is actually blue-green.

Very true. But I still see it as a good weekend place, but not a place I'd want to live full time.

And just remember what happens to that wonderful, cheap waterfront property about every 20-30 years. The day will come that Corpus looks like Galveston and Bolivar do right now.

Well at the rate we're going, we may look like the Scrooges and Griches of the Arizona Lofts, with absolutely nothing up for any holiday.

The Aluminum Pole will have a place in my married life. I've been promised the exclusive run of the basement, and said basement will be festooned with Devils memorabilia, an aluminum pole, and just for fun: a small half-bath with a gas mask hanging from the door just for a goof.

That was exactly the impression that I got... I think ALCO is just bitter. :p

I hear Midtown is nicer. However, presently, I only live a few miles from IAH. It's fairly easy to flee the city when necessary (i.e., every weekend). I fear this will be more difficult living in Midtown or The Heights (where I plan to move after the Wedding).

Well, I might be bitter too if I lived in Spring and had to endure the ride down the not so lovely North Freeway every day past the massage parlors, discount furniture stores, no-tell motels, and XXX bookstores every day. :p

Yes, but when you live in town, you don't need to flee the city quite as often either.

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Dec 5, 2008 8:24 am

Looks like I'll be limiting myself to Saturday-Morning PC DO participation. As sbm12 suggested, the offer for conflicting flights is a refund via travel cert. I can't get that SAT-PTY L fare to work for any other available dates, and can't rack up the same amount of miles (which I will need next year) with the same amount of $$$. I can, however, harass others via drunk-dial/text from PTY. :D
