What so good about CCB AIA Plat CUP... especially if you already have CCB CUP? You don't get welcome offer...

For a while CCB withdrew almost all its CUP points earning cards from application - the (core) Plat CUP and the AIA Plat CUP - they were really pushing everyone to apply for its Octopus CUP card which is a cash rebate card.

The Octopus CUP can fulfil the payment card role in the HSBC-->CCB CUP wacko tax strategy, because the CCB payment card earns nothing for paying tax.

However roughly since the second half of this year we've been using HSBC-->CCB CUP to pay insurance bill payment as well, since both BEA Flyer World and Fubon exclude insurance bill payment from points earnin (we've been doing wacky things like visiting the Central and TST cashiers for Prudential, switching over to credit card autopay for AIA, but there's nothing I can do for the other insurers such as BUPA and Manulife). In this instance it is beneficial the CCB CUP card earns $15/mile points over 0.4% cash rebate.

Also for the more extreme of us CCB summer and winter promos are a great way to pay for big payments - my CCB CUP are always called for to pay for deliveries - the new parents keep the cash rebate and I keep the miles - again better if $15/mile not 0.4% cash rebate. I have to have multiple CUP points earning cards on hand to do payments - deliveries aren't cheap.

Thanks Percysmith. Just wondering if it is worthwhile to apply for CCB AIA CUP if I have already have an existing CCB CUP. Using CCB CUP on the wacko strategy already.

For insurance payment, can you use Dah Sing BA or UA miles card to earn miles? I think you can. I know it is not AM.

Rhleung: urggghh that direct debit form may be classified as an autopay on the Dah Sing end, not eligible. If direct debit, use BEA Flyer World instead - it only excludes insurance as a bill payment not insurance as autopay (see AIA comment above).

Under current conversion rates, ignoring other bonuses and multipliers:
If 6X Dining, the dining spending will earn 64,800 AM and the Mannings 4,200 AM
If 6X Home, the dining spending will earn 36,000 AM and the Mannings 25,200 AM
I'm 7,800 AM ahead with Dining

Under new conversion rates:
If 6X Dining, the dining spending will earn 43,200 AM and the Mannings 2,800 AM
If 6X Home, the dining spending will earn 36,000 AM and the Mannings 16,800 AM
I'm 6,800 ahead with Home
If you have a partner, it sounds like Dining and Home are the best combination. Is it still worthwhile to go for BEA Flyer World if I am currently using HSBC Visa Signature and Citi Prestige?

Many thanks

Well we don't know whether 6X will continue in its current form next year. If it does, don't split your allocation or your partner's allocation between categories; go for all 6X dining yourself and all 6X home for your partner.

BEA Flyer World - yes still 20% more miles on non-category spends so why not?

HKBEA Mastercard Plat on Dining

Ad from the web:

Enjoy 3X Bonus Points at all dining outlets in Hong Kong

for BEA Master/Visa Plat, not the flyer card.

Does it mean 1 mile per $2.67 spent on local dining?

Except Flyerworld and Supreme Gold Master Card, none of the BEA cards can redeem Asiamiles

And even for the supremegold card, they made all the cardholders elect 4x dining *or* continued asiamiles conversion at the end of last year. Was not an *and*.

Does anyone know if I can use credit cards to pay premium for AIA at their cashiers? Thanks.
