Is there a English-language forum for Hong Kong miles/points/ premium airfare deals? I live in Hong Kong but can't read Chinese. I know about the Asia miles dining earning options (which seem great, haven't tried it yet) but would like to keep up-to-date on the latest deals.

Thanks
This site? Which posts? Thought we were mostly posting in English...

Even the HSBC links are in English.

If you meant hongkongcard.com, no sorry there's no English equivalent. It doesn't help some banks (DBS, Dah Sing) soemtimes bother to publish promos in English, instead asking you to call the bank (good luck...).

Chrome and its ability to translate whole pages will be your best bet. Otherwise at least for credit cards stick to this thread and I'll do my best to link and translate miles-earning promos from Hongkongcard.com

Question HSBC reward points to Asia Miles

Hi all,

I'm a newbie to flyertalk, so I'm slowly learning about this complex world.

One burning question I have regards HSBC reward points. I have a Hong Kong based company and spend on their Business Platinum CC. I have been saving my Reward Cash points to convert onto the Asia Miles program but I am wondering if that will provide good value. I would really appreciate your opinion on this? I've given some details below.

250 HKD$ = 1 HSBC reward cash
1 HSBC reward cash = 15 Asia Miles

I generally spend around 100,000 HKD$ per month, so that equates to 6000 Asia Miles per month.

Many thanks!

Typically, business people I know don't bother with business cards. They rather spend on higher-earning personal cards and then reimburse themselves from their business accounts.

e.g. if you switch your spending from HSBC Business Platinum CC HK$16.67/mile to say BEA (personal) Flyer World your $100K spending per month improves from 6,000 miles/month to 20,000 miles per month.

There's certainly no adverse implications from a tax or compliance perspective - namely I have CPAs doing this for their own practice. Some banks insist business customers use commercial cards, but only if you're doing a lot more than $100K

CCB Asia 939 Winter Spending Rewards Promotion on again! From 16 Nov 2015 to 15 Feb 2016. This time the Spending Target is $5,000. Again, indicated this is for "selected principal cardmembers"

http://www.asia.ccb.com/hongkong/pro...wards-homepage

So the ideal spending should be $12,700 (effective rate of $2.1821=1AM). Or to max the benefit out: $12,800 (effective rate of $2.1868=1AM)

Cheers rhleung. Agree with the ideal spending (to be precise we are talking about $12,747.32).

I have 2 questions and would love to hear from anyone who has the answers:
1. Limited to 15,000 cardmembers with registration opening at 10am on 16th November. How quickly are the 15,000 places filled, as I will be in the air until around 1:30pm?
2. Can we use CCB's eye credit card (and double dip an extra 6x points if the spendings are done online and are of overseas or travel natures)?

Thanks.

The extra 839 points are based on every $100 spending. So you either spend $12,700 or $12,800.

I rather $12,800 - easy to reconcile extra bonus points

Not sure if I am selected customer yet - night shift CS doesn't have the selected customer list yet. Fingers crossed (for my six V/M's sake)

(Only cards opened before 23/10 eligible to play - I had two cards excluded last 939).

Remember to combine with online to earn extra 3X http://www.asia.ccb.com/hongkong/pro...ds-sectionmain

Also remember - last June-August round:

- some cardholders got cash rebate not 939 offers

- some other cardholders got no offer at all.

"wacko earn" tax strategy - still valid?

Hello all,

Just stumbled on the wacko-earn strategy for tax payment. Could any of you confirm whether this strategy is still valid (i.e. CCB and HSBC haven't closed off, and don't intend to close off, the loophole yet), before I go through the application processes?

Many thanks!
