DBS Black MC: Applied 11/7 approved 18/7.

But I'm existing customer. My original DBS Black Amex was years ago, but I don't remember it taking very long.

Actually it's a bit of wasted effort applying for DBS Black because BEA Flyer World beats it over the head silly for everything. Except overseas spend.

BEA Flyer World - you need to apply for BEA Plat first http://www.hkbea.com/html/en/bea-cre...inum-card.html , get that approved. As soon as you acknowledge the new card, call BEA and apply to upgrade that BEA Plat card to Flyer World immediately.

Plat Visa or Mastercard - I will suggest Plat Visa, which was my upgrade route. Someone upgraded from a JCB. Haven't heard of anyone upgrading from Plat Mastercard.

I haven't tried it, but I got a copy of its T&C http://www.asia.ccb.com/hongkong/per...p_premier.html and the redemption form https://online.asia.ccb.com/Personal...Redemption.pdf

T&C clause 4 suggests online bill payment is a Designated Transaction (just like CUP) capped at 12 times credit limit bonus point earn.

But it does not mention the specific earn rate, so I assume it will be general earn rate of 2 bonus points per $1 paid from clause 1.

The redemption form does not have clause 4. I cannot tell which one is newer but I prefer the harsher set of terms (the T&C).

I won't sacrifice a $7.89/mile earn rate when half the miles are in Rewardcash (hopefully Avios at 18 Avios per RC!) for a $7.5/mile earn rate all in Asia Miles, so I will not use it.

CCB Unionpay (Dual currency, I presume) is AM only, I thought? I didn't see anything under the T&C for Avios.

Kawaii

CCB: yes AM only
HSBC: basic is one RC for 15 AM, if Premier (or a subsid cardholder of Premier) you have additional option of 15 KF or 15 Avios (sometimes 18 Avios, see 2014 thread).

OTish: Citi Prestige - hotel offer

So one of the benefits of Citi Prestige HK is that if you book four nights hotel stay, you will get the fourth night free.

Just going through the process and the offer seems to be legitimate, with a few caveats though.

You call Citi Concierge (who use Ten Group). Citi Concierge in turn get in contact with Mastercard hotels who come back with a proposal. You then book and pay the full value on your Citi Prestige card. A month or so later Citi will then credit your card back with the equivalent of your fourth night stay inclusive of all taxes and fees. However the credit back will be in USD, so you may get messed up on currency rates (because the sell and buy rates by MC are naturally not the same).

Priced out a recent stay and compared it to all the other various credit card offers etc and Citi were willing to match the best rate I found and on top of that offer me the one free night.

Such option is a direct arrangement offered by the overseas merchants and not the card issuer. In such cases, customers are reminded to ask the merchants for the foreign currency exchange rates and the percentage of handling fees to be applied before the transactions are entered into since settling foreign currency transactions in Hong Kong dollars may involve a cost higher than the foreign currency transaction handling fee.

Effective from November 2014"

BEA Flyer World MC

Hi, read from the following link that BEA Flyer World MC is HK$8/mile for local and HK$4/mile for overseas.

http://www.moneyhero.com.hk/zh/credi...=Credit%20Card

This seems to be correct according to BEA's website:
http://www.hkbea.com/html/en/bea-cre...astercard.html

Did I miss something or misunderstand what was posted in the Beginner card section on page 1, i.e. HK$5/mile both local and oveseas incl Octopus, with no redemption fee?

Thanks and cheers,
Maya

Ah, got cha, thanks LchChester!

If only it's easier to redeem long-haul flights on Asiamiles, esp on premium econ... pretty much mission impossible...

Uh huh. Even if the notice is not only meaningless now but provides a blanket cover-your-axx "I told you already" for a future DCC, Amex decided to spam everyone.
