I'd rather they offer me a lot of miles. Since the banks purchase Asia Miles at low rates, it should be easy for them to say give me half a million Asia Miles instead of giving me cash?
I thought banks bought miles at $0.07 http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...?id=9602&f&p=1 #9 . Although I'll buy all miles I can buy at that rate I don't think you can get a bank to sell to you at $0.02...

I'm now choosing a bank for my mortgage - they are offering cash rebate and free credit card spending. Has anyone tried to negotiate free Asia Miles?

Some banks (e.g. Citibank) offer Asia Miles for opening new accounts. Perhaps I can ask the bank to throw in 200,000 Asia Miles ... or maybe 500,000 Asia Miles for taking out a mortgage with them? I don't mind them deducting HK$10,000 from the cash rebate if they can offer 500,000 Asia Miles ...
I have just finialized my mortgage application.
To summary:
Every bank offers 1% rebate (which is the cap imposed by HKMA).
Different bank offers other incentives under different title,
Best credit card rebate in town is bankcomm with 0.4% (on top of 1%)
Best cash rebate in town with bank that has mortgage link is ICBC 0.25% (on top of 1%)
The only bank offers Asiamiles is Standard Chartered, details below:

FYI:the above figure is just an initial figure, which can easily be improved by negotiation with the agent. For example, I got 75% extra miles on top of the miles listed in the table

Looks like the bank is valuing the miles at about 0.10/mile (except for the 4m-9.9m range, where they value it at less? How odd). The 75% above would mean that the miles are being tossed in at 0.057/mile(. For 10k, that's probably good for like 175k miles?

DBS to stop awarding DBS$ on cross-border and insurance transactions fr 1 Apr

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=14031
http://www.dbs.com.hk/iwov-resources..._amendment.pdf

Insurance payments addendum seem to suggest it will disregard all payments from 1 Apr...possibly before you might get DBS$ as if it was retail spending.

I didnt pick up the topic on Hongkongcard... my guess is that it means insurance payment at cashier/fax order, not via bill payment.

Well.. i am pretty sure that the cash offer may also be improved by 75% as well if I ask for it.

Flyer World to be released for direct public application 9 Feb 2015

I heard another version that suggests it could be even earlier.

BEA Platinum no longer available for upgrade

I applied for BEA's platinum card about 2 weeks ago, and received my cards (MasterCard plus UnionPay) today. I immediately called BEA looking to upgrade to Flyer World. The agent said the Flyer World can now be applied with information on the website. I went on the website and sure enough it is open for application. As the card is now available for application, the agent said I can't upgrade my Platinum cards.....

So now I have to apply for another BEA card, and end up carrying 3 cards from them... Are the Platinum cards any good for mileage?? Seems like I can't cut them for a year or I will need to pay a fee. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

BEA CS confirmed:

1. Upgrades no longer processed

2. Direct application start Monday 9 February

Up til 4 February the upgrade path was the only path to apply for the card. BEA did not give any indication when the upgrade path would end.

If you don't earn the welcome offer, you can actually hand the cards back to branch for cancellation without fee.

I finally get to play my CCB eye Visa at 759, the MCC is also 5499 General Food Store. So don't use HSBC 6X/Citi Rewards on it.

Finally out http://www.hkbea.com/html/en/bea-cre...astercard.html

Chihster you are SOL. It has welcome offer of $1.8/mile to $9,000. But only to cardholders who haven't held any BEA card in last six months.

I suppose Chihster can cut his Plat/Unionpay now and apply Flyer/Unionpay in six months. BEA has not set a date where this welcome offer will lapse (but as with the upgrade path, BEA can do so any time).

Whilst I feel sad for Chihster I can't bring myself to apologise. BEA came up with this crappy timeline, not me. And if it's not obvious I am not a BEA insider to know any different.

Haha, Percy, indeed I do not blame you. Just timing didn't work in my favor.

I haven't activate my card yet. Would that make a difference on the welcome offer? If not, I see I have 2 choices. One is to still return the card to BEA and just cancel it outright. Two is to earn the welcome offer (Lenovo 7" pad) after spending $8,000, then dormant it until one year anniversary to cancel. Any thoughts?

Also, the $1,800 Flyer World annual fee waiveable?

Thanks.
