I'm keeping my Citi prestige too. I use them for hotel bookings, which works out pretty well if I'm doing a four-night stay. The 25% off brings the per night rate down to about where my corporate rate usually is, plus I get the extra points to boot.

And like Percysmith, I just fly LCCs way too often and those lounges are often great for stealing a bottle of water (or two) before boarding.

Weren't we supposed to earn RewardCash from bill payment with HSBC?
I just tried to pay my parking fee - which i usually pay by check - with my HSBC Premier card and had the following message:

"Please note RewardCash will not be awarded or, where already awarded are liable to be forfeited with respect to the amount of any bill payment transaction via credit card (or part thereof), which is subsequently refunded to the cardholder (whether through the credit card account or any other means)"

It states that you will not be awarded RewardCash which is subsequently refunded to the cardholder (whether through the credit card account or any other means).
If you pay your parking fees with your HSBC Premier Mastercard, then you will get RC1 for every HKD 250 that you pay, but if the carpark operator then refunds the parking fees, then HSBC will deduct the RC from your RC balance.

Yup, BEA World Flyer gives a much better earn rate, plus they transfer from points to AM much faster than HSBC

DBS Black 5% redemption 15/9-31/2

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=15952
http://www.dbs.com.hk/personal/credi...t-milesup.page

Need to spend $5,000 on the card during promo period and exchange for 15,000 AM or more.

I don't have 720 DBS$ sitting around.
And even with the bonus the effective earn rate is still $5.714/mile...so nothing to see here.

DBS non-Black redemption fee waiver 15/9-31/12

http://www.hongkongcard.com/forum/fo...w.php?id=15957

Only good if you have its Eminent card, and have been playing its 6% cash rebate promo and earned some DBS$ on that card.

merchant categories

hey guys

i asked a similar question before which percy kindly answered (many thanks!) - now i'm wondering in more detail - in terms of the HSBC rewards programme, how can i tell if a merchant falls under the 'dining' category? Is there a list of merchant codes?

I believe the merchant code may be printed on the receipt so if only i knew the code(s) that fall within the 'dining' category...

There are some grey areas, e.g. coffee shops like Starbucks; bars like Solas; clubs like Dragon I ...

Of real importance of course is - how can i earn air miles whilst trying to get with girls by buying them drinks??

Not for a Visa receipt.

For a Mastercard receipt you might check whether the authorisation code is heading by 'F' (e.g. F12345).

Starbucks definitely is (even top up card recharges are dining spending, I top up pretty frequently). Solas and Dragon-I are very probably dining also.

Don't fight over overcharges, you're gonna pay

Ideally buy a table and start popping some bubbly.

Question regardin Fubon.

For overseas spending, the conversion rate is HKD 3 = 1 mile.
Is there a limit?

How is customer service at this bank?

Thank you.

3x of credit limit each month if platinum or titanium

http://www.fubonbank.com.hk/web/html/cc_mp00a_e.html

9.
The maximum Points to be earned by Fubon Platinum or Titanium cardholder on each month will be triple of their Cards' credit limit (excluding the extra 16X Point under 20X Bonus Point Program and 4X Point under 8X Bonus Point Program); whereas the maximum Points to be earned by Gold or Classic cardholder will be twice of the Card’s credit limit. The cap of Points is inapplicable to temporary increase of credit line.

I think their CS is not bad, plus I didn't have to wait long to reach a CSO on the phone.

Guys, long-time HK resident and heavy user of Asia Miles wondering something I should've asked ages ago.

Any ways for me to:

1.) Pay mortgage with a credit card?
2.) Pay residential rent with a credit card?
3.) Pay commercial rent with a credit card?

If so, does it need to be certain networks (ie, Amex, Visa, MC, etc?). Originally I was naively thinking I'd love to put these charges on my Cathay Pacific Amex. But after finally digesting much of this thread realizing I'm not even using the best card.

Update:
If it matters, I can acquire both US and Hong Kong-based credit cards.

Thanks for answering. Saw it just before I fell to sleep last night.

Their big letdown is crappy technology - their website still needs Java, no mobile banking, their cards screw up big time in Japan and Korea (countries changing from magstripe to chip), you can't use the card >10 times a day and they get hacked:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/catha...l#post24754422

And they are pretty stingy about underwriting (credit limits or whether to even give you a card at all - I had to submit heaps of supplementary info before I got mine).

No, no and no. You haven't missed anything.

The only possible exception is serviced apartments.
