BAEC? You might as well. Very little cancellation cost if you're wrong.

12/8 CX705 PE wide open. Only 4 seats sold from seat map.

Hi,

I waitlisted on 10/6 CX734/CX271 SIN/HKG/AMS and 23/6 CX270/CX759 AMS/HKG/SIN J Class (roundtrip) Can anyone advise my chances of getting the ticket cleared by end May?

Does waitlisting SIN/HKG/AMS one way increase my chances than booking it R/T?

Thank you

Low. You want your seat way too early. CX last minute really means last minute. And you're too close to school season for CX to be kind either way.

No. I cleared the outbound of a round trip today. Inbound was already available when I started waiting.

Thank you Percy for your advice. I can only keep my fingers crossed and hope for the waitlist to clear. It would be too late to get economy seats at affordable prices last minute if the waitlist doesn't clear.

Could anyone advise the seat availability on CX271/11Jun and CX293/11Jun with Expertflyer?

Thank you for your help

percysmith May 10, 2017 3:24 am

270: I9 E9 L9 V0
293: I9 E9 V9 S0

It's not that business or premium economy seats are selling well
But CX seems to think it can sell economy seats, for which it can cannibalise PE and J seats for

Well you need some luck. Actually I reckon you'll get better luck with inbound than outbound.

What if only 1 leg clears on waitlist?

For CX awards awards a round-trip award is less AMs than a one-way award (on a per leg basis). I tried to search and came up empty as I am sure this has been asked before, but if only one leg clears on an upgrade award am I charged at the one way AM redemption rate or 1/2 the round-trip rate. I assume it will be the one-way rate, but I wanted to confirm.

One way rate is charged if you only fly one way....allowing you to "book" a round trip (no doubt always choosing a fully booked return flight) and only paying half for one way would be the biggest loophole running since offshore banking was invented.

If the return sector ultimately clears, you will be charged for 2 one ways....but you can claim back the difference. Asia Miles will refund you the amount of miles between the round trip and two one ways. So you don't get screwed if they clear at different times.

You may if you do not have enough AM for two one-ways in your account. However, you may get some miles after flying the first one-way. So the situation is not very bad.

Thanks for the response in advance.

am i still eligible for the refund?

If you book it against the same PNR of the outbound, yes

Must be all CX/KA. I was denied refunding against QF-QF booked this way.

Provided the other leg clears, or there is a plan B for the other one-way (Avios/LCC)

Thanks Percysmith,
for myself if am travelling for holiday in Japan, it is still not justified to buy everything last minute. Hotel, Car rental are far cheaper for advanced booking..

Any thought?

Japan's pretty good with LCCs? I use more Avios on Japan now.

(Not on red days, I buy some other full-service carrier e.g. KE).

I know

CX is a bxxxx holding last minute Japan availability https://forum.hongkongcard.com/forum...w/17278?page=5 . Solution: don't collect AM for CX Japan redemption.

Honest. You have to get a round trip which CX makes effing impossible to do.

Just to confirm my understanding of the following:
1) If I waitlist SIN/HKG/AMS R/T, and manage to get the outbound cleared with inbound still under waitlist, am I allowed to pay half of the miles required instead of 70000 miles ?

2) Am I required to have the full mileage amount (120000) to ticket the above itinerary if only the outbound clears first? Or can I just have 70000 miles to standby for ticketing?

You need 84,000 miles (70%) to continue to waitlist or AM will cancel your waitlist.

Apologies but not sure if this has been covered before. But is there a limit of flights that we can be waitlisted on?
I know as a MPC gold we are allowed 3 waitlists under each reservation. Let's say I am flexible as to the day I can travel. Are we allowed to call MPC and say waitlist for a particular flight (say CX138) for Monday Tuesday and Wednesday? And then call again the next day and waitlist for the same flight for Thursday Friday and Saturday under a complete new reservation reference?

Looking at a F redemption for HKG-MXP. Need 2 seats

1 Seats is available for booking. Currently F5, roughly how late do they release award space? About 5 weeks out at the moment.

HKNobody Jun 26, 2017 10:55 pm

Currently waitlisted across Y, PEY and J for CX 601 HKG to MLE on Dec 9, 2017.
Also J for CX 746 DXB to HKG on Dec 23, 2017.

Can I trouble someone to help check loading to see chances of waitlist clearing? Thanks!

Am CX GO but waitlisted for this while i was Silver (presumably the priority will automatically get updated in the system?)

Call them and make sure your updated status is reflected in waitlist priority.

Thanks Percy. Guess still 6 months out but at least looking good for now it seems!

dannyhk Jul 3, 2017 9:17 pm

What is the latest you can push MPC to extend a waitlist?

Got a waitlist for Y to PE upgrade expiring at 5pm today for a flight on Saturday (i.e. T-4). What is the latest you can push MPC to extend the waitlist deadline?

It's for the return sector (the outward already cleared a week or so ago) and looking at the availability pattern I'm guessing CX will only start releasing seats at T-2.

percysmith Jul 4, 2017 12:11 am

Upgrade one way? Still worth it.
Do you get refund of return difference for two one-way on same booking *upgrade* if the inbound leg also clears? I know you do for straight redemptions (ignore some misinformed Tsuen Wan agents who assert you cannot; I did it last month).

dannyhk Jul 4, 2017 12:14 am

Yes, Manila confirmed I would get refund of return difference on upgrade if inbound leg also clears.

How far can I push Manila to extend the waitlisting deadline? It's currently due to expire at T-4 (i.e. today for Saturday inbound)

percysmith Jul 4, 2017 12:41 am

I dunno about upgrades but if I'm trying to reissue straight redemptions (e.g. issued PE return, upgrading segments to J or F leg by leg) then T-4 is correct.

HKNobody Jul 6, 2017 2:27 am

Does it work if I buy full revenue ticket now, and if my award redemption clears at a future date, I cancel my full revenue ticket for a refund (incurring a penalty fee) and go for the award redemption instead? This is different from buying a ticket with the intention to cancel it in hope that an award spot opens up.

percysmith Jul 6, 2017 4:58 am

What's the difference between the former and the latter? You mean you aren't trying to hog up seats?

MasterGeek Jul 6, 2017 9:07 am

If I waitlist for a flight, waitlist seats clear, then I cancel the booking: Does it increase the chances that the seats will become available as award seats for oneworld and non-oneworld partners ?

sscywong Jul 6, 2017 9:57 am

1. Depends on your membership tier... But I've never got beyond T-4... You can re-wait / wait for instant upgrade at check-in desk

2. Don't think you can do so as you already have a booking with that flight... You can't have two bookings for the same flight

premier_flyer Jul 6, 2017 1:45 pm

Waitlisted with return flight confirmed

Hi,

Great thread ... kudos to the admins.

I am waitlisted on the following flights. Would anyone please check the availability and chances for me?

Two on waitlist:

CX 238 23rd DEC on PE (17.15 flight)
CX 250 23rd DEC on PE (18.00 flight)

My deadline is in 3 weeks. I'm Marco Polo Green.

My return seat on 24 Jan 2018 is confirmed

Many thanks!

Many thanks for checking Percy ...

Does this give me a decent chance of confirming one of those outbound flights?

And do you think it would be confirmed before my deadline, August 1st? I don't know how the waiting list works...

percysmith Jul 6, 2017 9:34 pm

Yes, in November.

Since it's not cleared you can extend a week prior to 1/8.

yes not trying to hog up a seat and to cancel it such that an award redemption opens up. Will only be cancelling my seat if an award redemption opens up instead. (so the award redemption spot would have opened up regardless)
