You have to cancel your full-fare seat before you book the redemption.
That's not tricky. Tricky thing is - do you have the return flight? If not, you may be buying a very expensive one-way. |

I didn't book any full fare seats...I'm just on the waiting list for the outbound flight (re redeeming my flight award with my points). Seems like a little bit of a lottery, but at least I have a return flight. |
Well you only have to clear the outbound then

Impossible to Redeem
YVR - HKG
Is this route impossible to redeem in Premium Economy? There are 2-3 direct flights a day and the availability is literally zero.. I have checked the availability and excluding the next 7 days there is not one flight available with 2 PEY for the whole of August, September, October & most of November. Surely this cannot be right? I am waitlisted on the below flights in PEY for 2 persons: CX837 6th Oct CX889 7th Oct CX855 7th Oct Im just wondering if i am wasting my time wait listing and if i should just purchase the cash fares instead. Its my first time on this route so i am not familiar with the probabilities. All i know is this looks like the hardest route i have ever tried to redeem! Thanks all |

Currently got this itin. If my only chances of space opening up is the last few days then it will be too late to ticket since I only just have enough Miles for the round trip redemption (108k):( HKG-JFK - cleared JFK-Vancouver - cleared Vancouver - HKG waitlisted |
If this was a straight round trip CX/KA redemption, if you redeem two one-ways under one booking, you are entitled to refund of the difference between two one-ways and return miles after the travel has been completed.
But this does not apply where a stopover is involved. Even if all segments are CX (the example I was given was HKG-oTPE-NRT, NRT-HKG is not eligible for refund) |

But this does not apply where a stopover is involved. Even if all segments are CX (the example I was given was HKG-oTPE-NRT, NRT-HKG is not eligible for refund) Scenario 1 - change date HKG-NYC (flown) NYC-Vancouver (flown) Vancouver-HKG - I want to change date 25usd /1000 miles - this should be ok right? Scenario 2 - reroute HKG-NYC (flown) NYC-Vancouver (flown) Vancouver-HKG - I want to reroute to LAX-HKG I can't find anywhere that tells me if a reroute/reissue is possible on a partially used award ticket? Can I pay the 120USD/10,000 Miles to reroute or will they just refuse since it's a partially used ticket? Does anyone have a concrete answer on this? Thanks a lot! |
Scenario 1:
25 USD/1,000 AM if you can rebook it online 40 USD/4,000 AM if you rebook by phone (even if you cannot do so online due to CX's system failure) Scenario 2: cannot reroute (reissue) part-flown tickets |
New here.
Can someone please help me check availability: LHR - HKG on any of the 4-5 flights a day 29th July, Econ or PE class Many thanks |

Using "Flexible travel dates (+/- 3 days)", all classes on and all dates within a week are searched and displayed. You can even try Priority Awards Tier 1 and 2 if you want to; unfortunately, nothing more there over Standard Awards. |

Extended Waistlist
Hi,
Any advice please ..... I just extended my wait list flights today for PE but only until 8 August, then if no confirmation yet, will extend again. What happens if I decide to ticket my inbound flight, which has been confirmed? Or is it best to keep on extending both outbound and inbound - it seems this could be a long wait? First time redeeming seats so I'm learning as I go along...

Waitlist for inbound flight cancelled?
I was waitlisted for PE to J upgrade on a return flight (JFK-MEL via HKG). Outbound upgrade came through (yippee!) and was sitting tight waiting for my inbound upgrade. I decided to check my flight details online and noticed it no longer had the waitlist details, so I called MPC. They were able to process the HKG-JFK leg immediately and re-waitlisted me for the MEL-HKG leg, but is this typical? I've done this upgrade a handful of times before, each time I would still be waitlisted on the return flight rather than falling off completely. It looks like I was taken off the waitlist the day before my outbound flights which have been completed, but in the past these have always renewed until the day before the return flight (although the MPC agent said it's typically held for 4 days before the flight then it would be cancelled).
I suppose I'll be more diligent next time, I'm just fuming a little because I'm potentially losing out on an upgrade by not realizing I had fallen off the waitlist. (1st world problems, I know!!) |

I reissued a couple of SYD-HKG flights this weekend where my mate and I need very specific flights. Mine became available T-29 hours. My mate's T-6 (...) |

Companion
Waitlisted for an upcoming companion ticket, both ways. A few questions:
1. If outbound clears while return not yet available, can this be ticketed like a normal one way award with application for refund as others have described for normal awards? Each leg also has two segments (connect in HKG) but I only care about transpacific segment - is the reservation ticketable with only one segment confirmed? 2. Companion and I are both AA Plt (OW Sapphire). Any waitlist priority benefit to this? If so do I need to call to inform them? We have no status associated with our AM accounts. 3. Am I crazy to do this? Basically gambling on this clearing, risking having to buy an expensive last-minute ticket. Anyone with experience? Flights are relatively open, non-holiday timeframe, but desirable/convenient routing. |
I got 2x J seats waitlisted on MLE-HKG in February. In the meantime I have booked 2x PE seats on the same route using Avios as a back-up, so if the waitlist clears I'll just cancel the Avios booking.
Now, how likely are the waitlisted seats to clear and how far in advance will I know, roughly? Any way of expediting this process? I'm a lowly MP Green... |

My own tix cleared 30 hours before departure Of course to do that we had to have issued tickets - he was issued in PE and me in Y, then reissued to J 30 hours/6 hours before departure. |

J? 6 hours before departure (7 Aug SYD-HKG CX162). I landed on CX138 that day - I checked for my mate before my doors close in SYD (no seat) and there was seat when I landed. I reissued his tix at the HKG luggage belt.

MLE is nowhere as competitive as SYD I reckon unless it's CNY...

Our weekend SYD tix were double reissues - my mate was return PE and mine were return Y. The outbound J seats weren't available til 84 hours before departure either. It's repeated reissues like these or last minute competition with the EXP grAAbers/MVP Alaskans. |

Flights are relatively open, non-holiday timeframe, but desirable/convenient routing. 1. I've never tried to ticket a one-way companion ticket. However, in my mind I had a memory that I was being told (few years ago) it can be done but the miles required is the same. And if you successfully cleared your another leg later you can't reissue your ticket because your ticket is a one-way ticket. Once you cancel it your seat will be released and it's impossible to control who get that seat. So you basically have to pay another 100% companion ticket miles to issue another one-way ticket as you can't (or no guarantee that can) cancel that ticket and immediately grab that seat back for issuing a round trip companion ticket. But it is ok to ticket just half of your segment. Say your ticket is JFK-HKG-SIN, you can just ticket JFK-HKG-JFK and leave the HKG-SIN-HKG segment not upgraded 2. Seems no 3. Yes. Don't know how flexible your schedule is, basically what I do is to wait for the companion seat first and get the alternative available seat first until ticketing deadline. At deadline I'll issue my revenue ticket and ticket the companion ticket and continue to wait for the preferred flight. Once available change the revenue ticket and change the companion ticket as well |

It's only northern transit's profit then anyway.

Not necessarily, my cousin was asking me about redemptions to AUS, then he saw how discounted it is nowadays ($23k), went with that without much hesitation.
...except she doesn't want to. So my brother's family fly here instead during school holidays. I had to throw in a Europe side trip to make it appetising for them, all in J (four of them). My trading losses for the miles used in this detoured kangaroo route is still gonna be less than HK$23K/head. |
Combine Waitlists Wins???
Planning a trip a few months out (ORD-HKG r/t). Was going to redeem miles for the trip.
My dates have some flexibility. I selected the optimum departure and return date. I was able to get CONFIRMED on the return, but was waitlisted for the DEPARTURE. I could leave leave anytime 3 or 4 days before the optimum departure date. So, I am thinking of waitlisting maybe 3 more days for the departure as one-way. This means I would have THREE ONE-WAY waitlists and ONE ROUND-TRIP waitlist. (again, confirmed BUT NOT TICKETED on the return). I am wondering what would happen if I get CONFIRMED on one of those ONE-WAY days? Would I be able to somehow link the confirmed waitlists... combine whatever one-way gets confirmed first with the return flight on which I'm already confirmed? I suspect I could just call MPC and get it worked-out. Get them to combine the two waitlist "wins" on a single ticket. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm asking because it's a matter of points. It would be a round-trip. However, they might book as TWO one-way trips. I know that if they did that, then they would credit me once i flew both segments (and requested the credit). But I would need more points available now if they were to book them both as one-ways. My guess is that I'd be OK because I think the points are calculated at the time of ticketing... not when confirmed. |

If you cleared outbound in one PNR and inbound in another PNR (say the latter cleared later), your only option is to create a waitlist for the inbound flight on the outbound PNR, cancel the inbound cleared PNR and hope the seat "drops" into the outbound PNR so you can redeem return. Better chance if you perform the "drop" right after the second flight cleared. But it's not guaranteed - I've failed enough drops to redeem two one-ways if the seat is critical to me. Oh P.S.: if you ticket outbound on one PNR and inbound on another PNR, you are *not* eligible for return minus two one-ways miles refund either. |
Hello! Outbound waitlist cleared J to F, MPC rep mentioned a $100USD fee would be collected for the re-ticketing. Is this new? Wasn't able to find background on this with some searching.
|
I think I may have found an answer: (from the about Asia Miles page)
4. Can I change my travel itinerary after my award has been issued? Yes, flight awards can be reissued to another routing if completely unused, subject to the change having the same expiry date as the original ticket and being with the same airline. A service fee of USD100 or 10,000 Asia Miles applies for reissuance of flight award tickets or upgrades. Best regards! |
Apologies, this has probably been covered, but I have not been able to read through the whole thread to check - I hope you can forgive me for that?
I have a flight booked on CX in U for SIN-HKG-FRA in mid-Dec. I would like to bring this flight forward to early Oct, but currently there is absolutely no availability on CX. If I waitlist a flight on CX and it then clears, will I be able to simply change the date from my earlier, already confirmed dates? Assuming that I will not be able to do this online and I will have to call the MCP hotline, will CX wave any extra fees so that I will only be invoiced the USD20 change fee that would have applied for an online change? |
