I am about to book a business class seat from HKG to LHR but unsure which dates have companion tickets. When I check the normal ticket redemption, there are no availability but a friend of mine mentioned companion tickets are treated differently. Does anyone know award redemption work differently between normal vs. companion tickets?

Companion availability > upgrade availability > priority two availability > priority one availability > normal AM availability > partner availability. I believe reservation call centre agents and travel agents can see the inventory. On when whey can see available do you need to book revenue and add companion next to it. Catch is obviously you have to buy a revenue fare (even if I) to be eligible for companion. |
I'm trying to redeem some orphan miles for HKG-PEN/KUL, but waitlisted in Y for the flights I'm eyeing.
16 Feb: KA731 (HKG-KUL): J9 C7 D6 I3 Y9 B9 H9 K7 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 KA691 (HKG-PEN): J0 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K4 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 17 Feb: KA633 (HKG-PEN): J8 C7 D6 I4 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 How conservative are they with Y redemption on full-ish flights, for a regular AM member? I know it doesn't look very good at this point, but I was just curious to know if there's even a chance they'll clear it given how they tend to oversell Y. Deadline seems to be quite soon - 6 or 7 Feb. |

Waitlisting for the below in Economy one way. Would it be better if I redeemed in Business?
23/02/18 CX772 (SGN-HKG): J9 C9 D9 I9 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 KA882 (HKG-SHA): J2 C0 D0 I0 Y9 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 If it was to PVG, seems I may have better chances in Business class? KA874 (HKG-PVG): F7 A7 J6 C5 D4 I0 Y0 B0 H0 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0 |
I think you might need to look at alternatives - with HKG-PVG or SHA selling so well in the back, business seats will be cannibalised to fill Economy (which is all you really need for that distance)

Actually KA882 seat map does look empty...seems like KA can't even push fares to "group" tours. You may have a chance over next week

Does having OWE but not with CX increases my chances of clearing? Specifically would I be treated as if I am a DM?
I am looking to fly from HKG-BKK and arrive by midnight of 30 March so I can fly out on QR around 8 am on 31 March. |

Waitlisted a 2 leg itinerary A-B-C
First leg A-B shows up available just on a single leg search. Tried calling asiamiles to confirm the first leg but won't let me as if they search for the whole journey both legs are waitlisted Is that the norm? |

Is it still available? CX170 is available on separate legs but on waitlist if searched on the 2 leg journey. I'd assume CX would let me confirm 170 and wait for the last leg hkg-bkk to clear but was told whole itinerary needs to be as it's connecting flight? Via phone |
No, can be leg by leg, unless married https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cath...-new-post.html
what if you create waitlist for HK-Bangkok leg and add CX170 by phone? |

percysmith is correct They should let you waitlist leg by leg. Did they tell you CX170 is available separately or did you check that on their web site? I never trusted their website.
I want to confirm cx170 while waiting for the other leg to clear Seems like flights with more than one leg always take a longer time to clear even if both legs are available separately |
Newbie question here, but have searched the thread as best I can: I can see outright availability for CBR-MEL (QF, J) and MEL-HKG (CX, PE) and I am keen to book given I need to be on a specific flight (no Y availability on the QF leg, so I realise the whole itinerary will price at J rates - still cheaper than QFF). If I confirm and ticket in PE and waitlist for J, is there a fee to re-ticket in the higher class? Are there any other issues to be aware of - for example would my waitlist chances be better if I book the QF leg separately and the MEL-HKG leg is standalone?
|
//is there a fee to re-ticket in the higher class
yes //is there any other issue cant check thru at cbr. But how much time do you have in Mel? If lots, doesn't matter |
3 J class awards on a flight ~3.5 weeks out opened to partners overnight while my waitlist for SO didn't clear. MPO agent was confused as well. First time seeing this happen
|
I'm 2 weeks out with 5/6 open seats in F and still no news. Good thing I have a confirmed flight the next morning if I don't clear soon.

That’s a bummer! I Guess an issue with timing since waitlists are a batch process (probably daily run?) |

That may be the case for partners' awards. Should not be the case for MPC.
The agent was certainly surprised. Well, she also offered to open up a seat for SO on our desired connecting flight of choice (ha...giving it away...it's HKG-SIN A33P on Easter Monday afternoon, nice enough given the low seat count and 'peakness') but I declined as I didn't want to ticket and pay for SO's award just yet. (to clear up the confusion, it's just SO connecting so that's why I grabbed the first segment from a partner alone.) |
Is anyone able to help me check the situation on CX246 CPH-HKG on 11th June? There's currently 1x J award open but want to know the chances of another one opening up.

Yvr uncle wanted to rebook a 4/3 CX889 YVR-HKG F redemption seat into 8-10/3
I've been waitlisting for him since Christmas, on one of those waitlists that has no end date (because it is rebooking) On 3/3 there was 3F on 9/3, 1F on other days, no redemption available and waitlist not cleared On 7/3 there was 1F on 9/3 and 2F on 10/3. Still no redemption seat. Uncle told me to reissue him in J on 9/3 on 8/3 4am yvr time there was 1 F redemption seat on 9/3. But it was too late for uncle - he says his bags are packed and won't change his plans. |
Would someone be so kind to help me look at award availability for these flights:
3/17/18 - CX845 3/17/18 - CX899 3/17/18 - CX841 3/16/18 - CX831 I would really appreciate it. I am waitlisted on 2 3/17/18 flights, but I am afraid they will not clear. I would like to know the availability so, I know whether or not I will have to look at all other hub city's flights on that day (ORD,BOS,IAD,YYZ). On another note, does anyone else find that CX cant book JAL awards at all? When I first booked this flight, I was trying to get NYC-TYO and BA showed availability, but CX said they couldnt see any seats. Same thing happened when I called today for 3/16/18 BOS-TYO, BA shows 3 seats, CX sees none. I am starting to think they cant book JAL at all. |

Don't know which class you are looking for, but below is the availability. As of two years ago, I was able to book JAL fine if I can see availability via BA.com. Now JAL has switched to Amadeus, I would have thought that it would be even easier.

I am looking at HKG-SIN in Business class on the 29th May.
Seems like there's no direct flight availability that day, only able to route via BKK. Given the high frequency of flights that served this route, is this usual? Though i understand it's a public holiday over in Singapore. |
