Or do I have to create a completely separate itinerary with two waitlisted segments and hope that both clear, then redeposit the original award?

Can waitlist. You will be set a T-4 deadline because of different routing.

I am waitlisted for CX219 HKG-MAN in J for Jun 5, 6, 7. As I see in Expertflyer, the availability on Jun 6 is J9 C9 D9 I9. Will my waitlist be cleared in the coming few days? Thanks.

Great, thanks for the quick response!

Hi all, read through the thread but still not 100% clear on this.

A few months ago I put SFO-HKG-SFO R/T on waitlist in both business and first; business cleared for both segments, while only the outbound has cleared for F. The outbound is 29/5, and the inbound is 11/6. The ticketing deadline is 25/5.

The MPC agent says that if I go ahead and ticket the full R/T now for 180k, with one segment in F and the other in J, once I take the outbound segment I won't be able to change the inbound to F even if space opens up and pay the $100 change fee. Is this a case where it would be advisable to ticket it as two one-ways instead? Or is it possible after I take the outbound to change the return segment from J to F? Thanks in advance.

Because the ticket has to be totally unused to be reissued.
Zone D F+J one-ways are 105k+70k = 175k < 180k so in case F doesn't clear it's less costly to do so.
Maybe you can ask them to ticket outbound as one-way; for inbound see if they can extend waitlist deadline, extended or not ask them to remark the 2 one-way records form a R/T, then if you later gets F, asks for the R/T refund afterward. You will need to have 105k x 2 = 210k during the process though, because afaik refund must come afterward

percysmith May 23, 2018 7:16 am

I don't think so
*Provided* the ticket was issued o/w F and o/w J <-- usually what happens, since o/w F is 130k, o/w J is 85k and r/t F is 220k (130+85 < 220)
The J can be separately reissued to F, even if the F is travelled
Then a r/t refund can be applied for on return to SFO (have to call AM)

I've done this at least twice:
- once for my SIL and niece going to my wedding. I remember starting with PE R/T, reissuing outbound to J before departure (so it becomes o/w J outbound and o/w PE inbound), reissuing inbound to J after outbound but before inbound date, then successfully claiming difference
- I've also attended a wedding in August where I started with Y R/T (uggh, it's a weekend turn to SYD), reissuing outbound to J before departure (so it becomes o/w J and o/w Y inbound), reissuing inbound to J on my way being driven across the Harbour Bridge to the wedding, then successfully claiming difference

"to remark the 2 one-way records form a R/T" <-- doesn't work. Must be same PNR. But two one-ways can exist in same PNR,

watery May 23, 2018 9:21 am

Thanks for correcting me with the more accurate procedures and hope it works out for AstralFox

AstralFox May 25, 2018 2:26 am

Thanks percysmith, was able to ticket the two one ways and stay on the waitlist for F on the return, plus extend the ticketing deadline. Will with the return J to F once (if) space opens up.

Do CX not get as many award seats on Qatar Airways as BA? Looking at a QR flight with availability in J using Avios, but the flight is listed as "N/A" in the Asia Miles search engine.

So, Does anyone can help to check if this time I have any chance?

Add segment when space clears?

I'm trying to do a one-way with a stopover, HKG-LHR (on 16 Aug) and then LHR-JFK (on BA) a couple of days later, in J. HKG-LHR has no availability; HKG-BRU does with a transit to BRU-LHR, but my understanding is that I can't ticket a three-flight one-way standard award even if it's one transit and one stopover, correct? And I can't have an "open jaw" in the middle of a one-way with stopover, right? (I'd be happy to go HKG-BRU // LHR-JFK if it can be ticketed as a one-way with stopover, and take the train to London.)

So I have waitlisted HKG-LHR direct. If it clears, and I call in to ticket it, will they allow me to add LHR-JFK to the reservation on BA if it's still available? Or will they consider that starting over?

I don't want to ticket LHR-JFK yet, because if HKG-LHR doesn't clear I'll explore other options, maybe turning it into a OneWorld award and going back to Hong Kong at some point in the future, or maybe doing it all on VS if the nonstops are still available.

Thanks,
Seth

Booked my wife in F July 20 return Aug 28, MNL HKG YVR, JFK, then JFK YVR HKG MNL and waitlisted myself as I was unable to book 2 F award tickets. What are the chances of the waitlist clearing and if so when does it usually clear? Thank you

I'm trying to book 2 business class tickets from HKG to LAX for 05 Oct and return on 19 Oct. I've been waitlisted.. can anyone here help me check what the chances are of it clearing?

Wanna redeem before June 22nd comes.

Thank you in advance!

percysmith Jun 18, 2018 9:51 pm

Every flight I9
But chances any seat will be released is remote because new rates will apply on North America (this is precisely why you're trying to rush thru the clearing right?)

Have been waitlisted on the following flights:

July 5th CX883 Los Angeles to Hong Kong
July 6th CX691 Hong Kong to Singapore

July 9th CX658 Singapore to Hong Kong
July 9th CX882 Hong Kong to Los Angeles

I signed up for ExperFlyer but have no idea how to see what my chances of getting these flights ticketed. Can someone help out here? Thanks.

Best you can do is go to the "Flight Availability" tab, punch in your departure then your destination, followed by the date, then put CX in the airlines box, click "search", and you will see the seats remaining in the list of "available classes", if any seats are still available for your fare class it will show it here. How one determines if you will get cleared for the waitlist and ticketed remains unclear to me. Not sure when waitlists are cleared and or if it goes by first to place themselves on the waitlist or if MPC status plays a factor. Booked my wife award seat in F for a flight to the US, and waitlisted myself for the same flight, no clue if I will clear or not though.

I looking at either some flight to Japan or Da Nang during CNY 19 - I know, I'm too late and its most likely going to be impossible. However, there are various waitlists available. I was hoping to use my wife's miles which are expiring next year, however, she is SL (I am DM). How much does status mean on waitlists? Am I better off doing it?

yes. cx clears rather well.

you know schools (well, the good unis) are starting late sept earlt oct? i dont think cx has problems selling tickets at YBH levels - my cousin spent 20K a few years ago for a work trip around those times.

you will not get it without using a DM guarantee.

craig44485 Jul 6, 2018 12:41 am

How do you know when your waitlist has cleared, and how does CX normally inform you? Received a call I was unable to answer at the time, an Asia Miles number from HK, but not a toll free number. I'm waiting to be cleared for a flight on July 20, so debating if I should call Asia Miles and see what the call was about or just wait and see?

iansh Jul 6, 2018 12:46 am

text message and email (with the title: Change of your booking status).

CAWineNerd Jul 6, 2018 8:18 am

Where is a place to search award availability that works? I'm searching ORD-HKG and I've done searches many times successfully. BA.com rarely works, and when it does it only finds AA flights. Qantas.com does not find any Cathay space - just AA and China Eastern. AsiaMiles.com logs me in then gives an error if I try to search (Your session has been timed out or invalid, please login again [facadeSearchIBE_USR005_S002] (IBE_USR005_S002) which is super useful).

iansh Jul 6, 2018 8:36 am

For CX? Try KVS Tool.

What happens to award inventory if I waitlist 2 seats for a return (roundtrip) where the outbound is on waitlist and the inbound is available? Would AM reserve the 2 available inbound seats or is it possible that someone snatches up these seats while i'm waiting for the outbound to clear?

The outbound is LAX-HKG on Dec 15 so I'm not feeling particularly hopeful. Loads in PE are W9 R9 E0.

iansh Jul 10, 2018 7:13 pm

Each leg of the WL-ed roundtrips are cleared individually. I see your dilemma here but unfortunately that's how it works.

HPSOV Jul 15, 2018 4:15 pm

Hello, I'm sure this has been asked before but my efforts at searching haven't worked.

I want to fly YVR-HKG-SYD (85k points J). Currently there is availability on YVR-HKG but HKG-SYD is waitlist, making the while journey waitlist. If I book the YVR-HKG now (70k points J), and waitlist the HKG-SYD (45k points J), if the waitlist clears can I merge it into one booking for 85k points, instead of it ending up being 70k+45k?

Thanks.

Yes if you add HKG-SYD waitlist segment to the YVR-HKG booking and then reissue it (US$100/10,000 AM fee)

scbelle Jul 15, 2018 8:00 pm

Hello all. I've had my flights clear the waitlist via email Friday (Change of your booking status email).

To discuss just one flight: it is on 30th December. Email asks that I please issue ticket prior to 20th December.

However, I've just received a phone call asking me to go ahead and confirm ticket. I had to ask them to call back as I don't have the Asia Miles in my account yet. I have sufficient Amex points to transfer, however, I am also waitlisted on another airline for a more convenient flight. I was hoping to hold the cleared CX flight for as long as possible to see if I am able to clear the other waitlist before I start transferring any points.

Some web resources have shown CX will hold a flight for 30 days after it clears the waitlist; the email indicated it would be held up to 10 days prior to flight time.

This call has me even more confused!

Must I go ahead and transfer points, issue tickets, etc? Or may I wait until the time indicated on the email? Or some other time?

Many thanks!

iansh Jul 15, 2018 8:31 pm

Just give them a call back and ask for a hold. CX is usually quite lenient in this (technically they can WL up to 6pm on the day before departure I believe). Maybe also explain your situation if they won't budge.

scbelle Jul 16, 2018 6:04 am

Thank you!

ManFactSpendLA Jul 18, 2018 10:53 pm

Is there a limit of waitlists that you can create? Or would advise? I'm pretty open on which flight I can take, but don't want to clog the system with waitlists but want something to clear...any advise would be appreciated.

arandomflyer Jul 22, 2018 8:16 pm

Hi, new to redeem award tickets here
Reading the other thread on changes after June 22 and many saying that there are less award space, can someone give me feedback on how to move forward?
What is the best strategy for redeeming a J/F for 2 persons in the future? It seems like clearing a F ticket for 2 persons is more difficult than for a person. Do I redeem the tickets together in one account, or one by one in the same account, or have each of us redeem separately in our own account? We don't mind having one person in F and another in J.
It's just that I have enough miles to redeem for a person, but not for 2. If I were to redeem for 2 persons in one account, I will have to transfer points from a credit card and I only want to do so unless I'm sure there's a high chance of clearing a waitlist.
