Hi everyone,

Am planning to visit a friend who's now studying in Australia but am hoping to save some $$ and redeem flights. As of now, it seems like I have to waitlist for both legs and was wondering if anyone could check the loads for me so I can gauge whether I should risk it and wait it out hoping that there'll be availability

CX103 HKG-CNS on Oct 14
CX104 MEL-HKG on Oct 23

Many thanks in advance!

Ah, so availability isn't great. Hmmm time to search for alternate dates.

Thanks so much Percysmith! Much appreciated

Actually my answers from EF are wrong.

14/10 S fare is available for S1 and at least V2 is available on https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK.html

23/10 N fares available

Difference is Expertflyer uses US POS, and https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_HK.html is HK POS (to access the HK POS data, you're going to need a professional travel agent with access to Travelport or other GDS)

Asia Miles redemption question

Dear all,
I'm planning to fly to Adelaide from Taipei via Hong Kong on Oct.8 and return on Oct. 16. The TPE-HKG/ ADL-HKG/ HKG-TPE legs has been confirmed but yet to be ticketed, the deadline is before Aug. 5th. However, I'm on waitlist for the HKG-ADL leg, I've waitlisted for both economy and PE class on Oct 8, and PE class on Oct. 9 on this route.
My question is, should I ticket the inbound leg before the expiry date and then wait for the waitlist on outbound leg to be cleared? Could anyone help me to check the loads for the following 2 flights? Thank you very much!

2016/OCT/08 - CX173 HKG 19:00 ADL 06:10 (+1)
2016/OCT/09 - CX173 HKG 19:00 ADL 06:10 (+1)

Also, is there anyone know that if October is peak season for Australia? It seems that almost no tickets are available in October.

9/10 J9 C9 D9 I6 W6 R4 E0 Y9 B9 H2 K9 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

EF load info is misleading tho - cathaypacific.com/hk is showing N is available on 8/10 (very few) and V is available on 9/10 (V2)

GE90-115B Aug 3, 2016 3:54 am

EF is certainly not a true indicator of loadings. There has been more than one instance where EF lists a fare class as "0", and yet I can still see the exact same fare class available on cx.com

percysmith Aug 3, 2016 4:03 am

For recent queries it's been quite misleading...I know it's not EF's fault - CX's playing a lot of POS games but I wounder is it meaningful to copy over EF US POS stats.

Still very much appreciated. Thank you!
I've already ticketed the inbound flights, still being on the waitlist for the outbound flights on Oct 08 and Oct.09. Does anyone know that
will the chance of being cleared be higher when you hold an inbound ticket?

No. Cos I've sometimes issued Business outbound, PE inbound (or v.v.), waitlisted the PE leg for Business reissue and it never happens until close-in.

mousiesue Aug 15, 2016 7:36 am

Hi there,
Brand new to this forum - I have following waitlist, can you pls tell me about the chance to getting my waitlisted booking?
1. HKG-CJU: 28 Aug KA326 / 31 Aug KA325
2. HKG-CJU: 14 Sep KA326 / 17 Sep KA325
And how late will get the waitlisted confirmed if somehow available?
Many thanks

Im wondering what would be the better award to chose, companion award or a normal award.

Im booked in J and currently when selecting companion award, it says that the companion will be waitlisted.

Experience wise, which one would get cleared first and how likely will a companion waitlisted award get cleared?

I haven't done companion awards, but IIRC it was discussed somewhere in this forum that a companion award has priority over a normal award. It also requires fewer miles to redeem. However, bear in mind companion award is not flexible. It is tied to the revenue passenger.

Did you call MPC on the waitlist? As a GO, you should also have a higher priority over SL/GR/AM.

I did this last year while travelling from MNL - HKG - SFO and return and it took about 3 weeks from booking until my fiancee's companion reward was confirmed. But, there was at least 20+ J/I seats available.

I decided to go this route instead of buying two PE W/R tickets then going for the upgrade and waitlisting two tickets based off feedback in this forum that said companion takes priority. I hope it does. Otherwise I'll have an angry fiancee sitting in economy on my next trip :D

You may not necessarily have an angry fiancee sitting in economy. There are several other scenarios:
1. She takes you J seat. You take hers.
2. She refuses to fly with you.
3. She will not be your fiancee anymore.
4...
:D:D

If I were you, I would go for 2 R and go for upgrade.

Option 1 is probably my best bet :D

But going for two R upgrades would mean it's on a lower priority than a companion award would it?

You are probably correct. You have to get two upgrade awards instead of one companion award, and each of the upgrade awards is at a lower priority than a companion award. OTOH, at least both of you can fly even if upgrades do not clear.

BTW, upgrade awards may be cleared one at a time. If you do go for upgrade, you may also consider doing the two upgrades separately so CX won't wait for two upgrades available before clearing both of you.

I'll probably stick with the companion because i do need the I class ticket to reach gold renewal (as per my other thread). Worst case I'll buy an economy and offer to my fiancee the business.

Question on the last minute availability

Looking at Aug 31st CX897 LAX-HKG 09:30 departure, J is wide open but F not available. The dates before and after all have Fs showing up now. Can I conclude this flight has a relatively full F cabin? Can some kind souls have access to seat inventory post what you see?

Holding 1F and 1J on this flight. AS tickets. Was hoping to see an F become available last minute. Does not seem likely now.

Waitlisted for R --> U on CX 806 18/9 - flight is currently J9C9D9I4 and 32/53 taken already

Should I forget about the upgrade getting through? U class is wide open mid-week before and after but just not for that weekend. Even JFK had some U availability...

CX said OWEM makes no difference since the miles are coming from my mum (she's a nobody), and they said they can't do anything. Can I waitlist for additional flights (i.e. a day before or other ports like LAX/JFK?)

I swear I'm not doing this again but the first leg (ex-XXX) sector had no I availability...

Pretty extreme withholding from partners

Strangely QF FF can still see all the seats CX sees - it's only BAEC who cannot

This morning I encountered a pretty extreme example of withholding from partners. This time it's affecting QF FF as well as BAEC:

31/12 HKG-KIX

AM: At least 6 seats on each of CX562 and 594 (I can go all the way down to payment page this time)

http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5516_29783.png

BA: one seat on CX562 (result is the same no matter which country of residence is used, I tried switching)

http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5620_89652.png

QF: not more than 1 seat (if one seat, CX562 was available)

http://www.hongkongcard.com/webedito...5704_87617.png

If CX continues with this I see fewer opportunities for burning Avios.

So I've gone ahead and purchased myself an I ticket and applied for my fiancee's companion award ticket, and all segments are wait-listed. I've checked the availability on each and this is what's showing:

MNL to HKG
J9 C9 D9 I8 W9 R9 E9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9

HKG to YVR
F4 A4 J9 C9 D9 I0 W9 R9 E9 Y9 B9 H7 K0 M0 L0 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0

HKG to MNL
J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 R9 E9 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 O9

Considering all segments have at least 9 business class seats open, what's the likelihood of all being confirmed?

Trip begins September 22nd, and I do still have a Gold status

Don't trust your EF data blindly! On your date, I suspect I2 is actually available.

Hi Percysmith,

Thanks for the reply! I saw that too. Last night I tried to purchase the I class ticket and I wasn't able to. The EF alert i created informed me this morning that an I class ticket became available so I booked. But at the time I took the EF reports it stated 0 but I was still able to do another dummy booking. Weird.

But either way, it seems like there's lot of business class seats available on each segment. Crossing my fingers. :)

CXNewbie Aug 29, 2016 4:05 am

Hello,

Perhaps someone could help me out here.

I've been waitlisted for the following flights for a few weeks now :

1. CX 659 16 Sept HKG - SIN
2 CX 716 18 Sept SIN - HKG
3. CX 714 19 Sept SIN - HKG
4. CX 636 18 Sept SIN - HKG

Seems like seats are pretty scarce when I try to make a dummy booking. Also, on the redemption website, they won't allow anymore economy redemption... I'd be grateful if someone would be able to check the seat availability. Thinking of whether I should bite the bullet and buy the now quite pricey fare or wait/call MPC and hope for the best.

Many thanks in advance and any advice would be much appreciated.

I've found that the HKIA desk to be quite helpful (and definitely much more helpful compared to the hotline). Not sure if I can describe in detail since I don't know if what the staff did was allowed, but they definitely gave me a lot more information than those on the phone regarding waitlist clearance and loads etc ;)
