another question: if I book two one way redemption tickets separately (SGN-HKG and HKG-SGN), would this count as a round trip redemption? I've seen somewhere on this thread mentioning that it would. Just want to double check.

Thank you!!

If you book both flights together and they are ticketed separately because one was waitlisted, then, in general, yes. However, you have to use miles separately and call them to refund the miles after finishing the whole trip. (At least that is the case for MPC members.)

If you booked them separately (diff PNR) - then no.

While it is possible, at these loads I don't see Y being released (there's nothing being released right now). Maybe J on or around Thursday.

I managed to snag HAN-HKG this Sunday, but in J (snagged it w Avios, Y outbound)

Hi Percy Smith,

First time poster here, so please be patient with me. I'm currently on wait list for full award redemption on Asia Miles, business class, 2 pax, non MPC member.
20 Apr 2016 CX880
20 May 2016 CX881

Is there a way (an app or website) to see what my chances are of these flights clearing? Or do I need to call the hotline every now and then?

Thank you in advance!

Upgrade chances look very good but CX doesn't want to clear them early. Let the upgrade waitlist sit and only start looking actively two weeks before departure.

Have also noticed how one BAEC account sees a specific award space while another BAEC account doesn't see the same space.

I used to only see one-seat discrepancies:

Now it's up to three flights.
Strangely QF FF can still see all the seats CX sees - it's only BAEC who cannot

It might be also be a technical limitation on BA's website where later flights of the day don't show up on the screen, which happens sometimes.

How to explain two earliest flights missing on 27/1 (CNY 2017 eve)?

Then I don't know. It may not be a thing about time of day but sometimes BA cannot display all available flights on a same day. They know it because I've booked flights before not displayable online (domestic trunk routes) and they waived the booking fee for that. So those who want to book through partners should try calling in and it might work.

As additional data points, I have seen CX awards available to CX/AM a day before it is released to partners. So it's still very possible that BA doesn't have as much inventory as CX has itself.

Iceprincess88 Feb 11, 2016 9:46 pm

I'll do that. Thanks a lot!

I called BA up +852 3002 1208. The 27/1 flights before 1200 (CX713 0910 and CX615 1000) and 31/1 flights after 1515 (CX712 1635 CX708 1740 CX702 1910) are all N/A to them too.

QF also gets the 1-seat thing sometimes as well, although it's hard to pin point where exactly as it doesn't happen very often.

It's a bit more than 1-seat this time - it's at least three seats, and (IMHO) on the choiest flights (early morning departure on CNY eve so pax makes CNY 團年飯 dinner, afternoon departures on the last day of public holiday).

Is the Upgrade Priority hierarchy also believed to apply for full award redemptions?

Also, does the status of the flyer matter or the status of the booker? I'm a redemption group member for a relative who is a CX DM.

The priority should only be the same for MPC and AM members, whose bookings can be waitlisted.

Is it possible that it is the CX site which is wrong? In the past I've had the situation where it shows available, then I continue to redeem and then you get the "error".

I'm sorry, I'm still unclear about my second question: Does a waitlisted booking take into account the MPC status of the booker or the flyer who is in the booker's MPC redemption group?

I know for certain the sponsor's status is a factor, but probably either one's status can be used.

Can't test 31/1 CX712 708 702 cos they're not available on AM too.

But an AM agent confirmed she can see 27/1 CX713 and 615...since there are at least six seats on AM for both these flights I made a dummy booking of CX615 and can go all the way to the payment page.

fluffydot Feb 15, 2016 11:09 pm

I am looking for a J award from HKG to YYZ in late May and return in Aug/Sep. Currently I have waitlisted for CX826 on May 19 and confirmed for CX829 on Aug 30.

Question is: if I am flexible on both outbound and inbound dates, can I setup additional waitlists to increase my chances? Is there a limit? What happens if another outbound date gets confirmed (on a diff booking)? Will MPC piece them together into a return award?

thanks!
PS - first time claiming an AM award...I am used to finding an abundance of partner awards on *A

Cannot join. You'll have to setup a waitlist on booking #1, cancel booking #2 and hope that the seats in booking #2 drop into booking #1

So far I have set up 4 WL "return-trips" on various dates. So it looks like the system does not mind that I have 2 WL on CX828 and 2 WL on CX826 on diff days.

Do folks know if certain days are easier for awards? e.g. mid-week morning flight leaving HKG? thx

Awesom Andy Feb 17, 2016 6:58 pm

The system doesn't mind me having 2 WLs on the same flight in the same cabin class either. Both waitlists cleared as well.

Because you haven't got the return flight and:

1. want to waitlist two flights but couldn't be bothered to call AM/MPO; or

2. You want to waitlist six flights

Well you do this to "corner" the availability.

Say it's 2017 Chinese New Year. Going to SYD is very easy, coming back is hell.

And say the availability is as follows:

28/1: CX101 2T OK

5/2: CX162 CX100 CX138 all 0T 0U

So with the first CX101 T seat, I create a confirmed CX101 T waitlist CX162 CX100 CX138 T waitlist (max 3) booking

Then with the second T seat I create a confirms CX101 T waitlist CX162 CX100 CX138 U waitlist booking

In my experience CX doesn't mind til I ticket one of the two T seats

Here's another pair of missing flights

2 May (last day of 五一 public holiday) CX766 1115 and CX764 1900 SGN-HKG is not available in Economy with Avios, only in Business.

The two flights are available in Economy with AM right now.

Hi, Percysmith! Need your help once again. I use the app seat alerts but I don't see the % chance of the wait list clearing.

My outbound has been confirmed but inbound is still on wait list. While I've called the hotline a number of times, they give me the same reply that they have no way of accessing / clearing the wait list. I'll just have to wait for CX's text message and email.

My flight is for May 12th, CX881, business class.

Thank you.

J9 C9 D9 I9 with only 17 of 53 seats allocated. Meaning it will clear.

Hi Percysmith, thanks for the suggestion! I called Asia miles and they didn't have availability for CX897 on 08 May but they do for 06 May. I had the flight ticketed and will follow your advise to rebook to 12 May on departure date (06 May).

You think I should wait list myself online for 12 May Lax-Hkg? Or just wait til 06 May and rebook? Highly appreciate your help.

I'm not sure this is new, but recently I have found that as a DM, I can instantly clear waitlists. I just have to call and ask.
