I've tried KVS - it offers one-click checking of CX and BA's inventories as QRC3288 explained above.
It doesn't show any more than what you can search by yourself on cathaypacific.com or britishairways.com However a significant downer (at least for me) is KVS did not go through my corporate gateway. It did work when I started my subscription - clandestinely in my case as KVS is a program and we weren't really meant to be installing them (I ran mine off a USB) - and then someone in my IT changed something and I wasn't able to use KVS on my work computer anymore. My home KVS still worked fine so it's not their fault. Owing to its status as a program I cannot raise a Helpdesk ticket without triggering an audit either. |
I tried checking BA's redemption availability, and it's only showing one of the 4 flights I need available.
Anyone want to venture to guess how my upgrade chances are looking like? I'm flying Nov 25, day before Thanksgiving out of JFK so maybe that's hurting my chances a little. If the upgrade is not looking good, I may give up on this entirely and just go for cheapest economy fare! FYI I'm flying JFK>>HKG>>MEL :) |
841 and 178 are baxstatds to upgrade. Waiting for some 178 J seats myself (not your dates).
They may become available...48 to 24 hours before departure. At that time you won't have any waitlist as they end 96 hours before departure, so you're up against all the grAAber last minute artists on a first come first served basis. |

No you just need to be more OCD - you need to whack the mole (call AM to process the upgrade) faster than other members and grAAbers when the seats are available (partner access will be equal to AM members close-in, but they burn a lot fewer miles on redemptions).
Oh P.S. forgot to mention 7 Dec is just after the start of the Australian school holidays so you're up against the collective onslaught of HK PRC and Taiwan Tiger Mums tearing each other to pieces for a flight home. Redemptions on them started *last* December and brings down the various redemption centres when it happens (I should know. I joined in the fray to make sure my SIL has no excuse to keep the kids in Australia for another summer). |

I bought r class and wait listed for j for 12/18/15. The wait list will expired on 12/14/15. Should I call to extend the wait list? Or is it possible? Flight no cx 883.
|
Not possible. Start playing whack-a-mole tomorrow.

However, you can still try again after your waitlist is gone. I got an upgrade this way 2-3 years ago. In addition, you still have a chance to do instant upgrade at the airport (assuming you are using your own miles or traveling with your AM sponsor). |

Full or upgrade redemption for 9-31 December SFO or LAX flight is pretty much impossible to clear. You can try to extend, but I don't think they will.

You can't extend your waitlist any more. All cxfan1960 and I can suggest is to call MPO every so often between 15-18/12 to ask for availability.

You still have a chance to upgrade at the airport. My family got several upgrades that way in the past. You must be using your own miles or traveling with your AM sponsor for such upgrades. You can make the request when checking in.
Thanks for your suggestion. How early should I check in to request upgrade? Is it first come first serve? |
Waitlist - register my BA status?
Hi
I'm OW Emerald with BA and no status on MP (but have account). I just purchased PE ticket HND-HKG-PER return online and put through upgrade request using my MP account and some air miles I transferred from AMEX. Only the HKG-PER leg was successful and the rest have been waitlisted. I'm just thinking that if I logged my British Airways account on the booking that maybe I would get higher priority in clearing the waitlist as I'm emerald status with them and nothing with marco polo. Is that possible? Any other suggestions for clearing? Thanks Tim |

Your BA status means squat for upgrading with AM. HND to HKG should be easy to clear but really depends when you are flying, like CNY, then you are doomed.
I do wonder whether I should change my mileage collection from BA to CX as these days I seem to fly more times with CX than I do with BA... |
Always play "whack a mole" for redemptions... thought I'd give waitlist a try.
It is for a full redemption, not an upgrade. From what I've read here, it sounds like it's not particularly reliable? Probably still need to check daily? Anyway, have a non-standard situation. I had booked a one-way redemption in December, 2015. Ended up finding another way to handle the flight. When I called to cancel it, and wanted to put the miles back in my bank, the MPC person said to just leave it open, and I could pay a rebooking fee, rather than a $125 cancellation fee. I'll need 145,000 miles for this waitlisted award, if I get it. I probably have 80K-90K miles in my bank right now. Anyone have any idea how the "open redemption ticket" will be utilized here. I'm sure it will require a phone call... which is no problem. But I've never tried the waitlisting before, so I'm not sure how it will work. Will I get some sort of email, SMS, or phone call? Will I need to respond within some short timeframe? Will they see that I have this open ticket? Or will they only see the miles in my bank, conclude I don't have sufficient miles, and then pass the available seat to someone else? |
Hey guys, I'm currently waitlisted on a paid (but refundable) YS ticket on CX811 2/12/16. Looking to bump up to biz. I just noticed today that BA's website is showing 6 available award seats this morning. Just checked again now and it says 7. Called Asia Miles thinking it was a shoe-in, but requires manual request. They said there were no available upgrade seats. Is that a status thing, as I'm the lowest nobody in AM? They said they would email once something opens up, but from skimming through this thread, it sounds like I'm better off trying to manually call in upgrades.

It is CX flight so AM should show a more reliable result... My experience is -- what you see on AM/CX website is what tou could get! Even though the reward seat is not available on AM/CX website, you could still give them a call. They might put your waitlist order a bit forward... |

I'm not a MPC member, so I don't know if I can see award availability on CX website. I'll try AM's award search. If I had to guess, I think I'm getting the lowest tier priority at the moment because of my entry level AM status. Thanks! |
Currently have a reward redemption with the last leg HKG-YVR on Feb 28. I want to postpone it till after March 20.
Nothing is available and i've been calling MPC for the past couple of weeks, anyone can enlighten me my chances? I see that Economy Save is available and booking class S for the dates I want to fly but nothing is available for reward redemption |
I have another question about waitlisting...
I have put myself on the waitlist for a roundtrip flight. How does this work if there is OUTBOUND availability on the day I want, but no INBOUND availability? I can speculate that they would not issue the award ticket until BOTH ways have availability. Right? In other words, should I waitlist for one-way tickets? One-way INBOUND, and one-way OUTBOUND? |

If I had to guess, I think I'm getting the lowest tier priority at the moment because of my entry level AM status. Thanks! 2) Check your fare subclass. Only W and R can upgrade to J. 3) two possible issues. Either a) the upgrade inventory is inferior (we've heard multiple reports around here to that extent), or BA is showing phantom inventory. Partner redemptions do not have any priority over straight-up (non upgrade) Asia Miles inventory. And in certain circumstances, Asia Miles has inventory that partners don't have access to. BA is known to show phantom space from time to time. But we also have reports of AM upgrade availability being inferior to pure AM availability. So this may be what's going on. To check if it's this issue, you can simply ask if a full redemption is available for AM. If they say no, then BA is just showing phantom inventory. Partners do not have superior inventory to AM for pure redemptions. Status is irrelevant. |

Then they will credit you the difference of 2 one way vs 1 round trip tickets IF and only if they are ONE redemption. If your inbound never clear and you only fly the outbound you get charge miles for one way ONLY. So book them into one round trip redemption unless you have lots of miles and don't really care about the difference |
Let's say I want to do R -> U for something like ORD-HKG-(stopover)-HND. ORD-HKG-HND and ORD-HKG is the same mileage band so ideally I want to upgrade both sectors. It's in the same ticket, ex-HND.
Suppose ORD-HKG clears, I get charged 27.5k AM but HKG-HND (on some future desired date of mine) is waitlisted. When HKG-HND eventually clears a long time later, do I get it for free or will I be charged the R->U mileage for HKG-HND again separately? If that happens, to avoid that, should I change the underlying R booking of HKG-HND to some date where it also has U availability so both segments will clear at the same time once ORD-HKG clears. But then once that happens am I locked in for the date to travel HKG-HND? Can you change an R->U sector date once it's cleared? |

Perhaps they may simply reissue without cost (as OP was waitlisted anyway) or will deduct miles and refund after the trip is over. It is better for OP to ask AM that when/if waitlist is cleared.

thanks percysmith and cxfan1960 dai los as always; guess I have to call in and ask when the dates become more solid...
regional PEY on the outbound was just bad in service so I actually want that upgrade more, tbh |
As an update to this thread...
I had originally waitlisted on January 27 for a round-trip. It then occurred to me that perhaps the waitlist would not clear unless BOTH inbound AND outbound had seats. So, I then waitlisted a second booking for one-way flights in each direction. Those second bookings were made on January 29. Today I received an email and SMS indicating that the waitlist had been cleared/confirmed. I had quite a long time to confirm/ticket it (April 2). I contacted MPC, and learned that it was the one-way outbound had cleared. The roundtrip was still waitlisted. I booked the one way, and have a J seat in the mini-cabin! :-) (In the meantime, I have been playing "whack-a-mole" looking for reward availability. I checked this morning and nothing was available.) |
Just some recent experience. I was on the waitlist for CX 469 on February 12, for Y+, J and F. Checked every day for the past week or so to see if any of those would clear, and at the same time would re-check award booking availabilities. Lo and behold this morning checked and saw there was an opening Y+ seat for the flight, but nothing had cleared for my waitlist. CX's waitlist is clearly ineffective.
|
I'm waitlisted for an award seat in a few months time. Does OWE status with another airline help at all? Since it's meaningless for an upgrade waitlist, I guess it's also meaningless for an award waitlist? Either way, it probably doesn't matter if I need to play whack a mole.
|
Awesome Andy: no
|
Anyone knows if CX would open award econ seats last minutes? I've been on the waitlist for a while and hope to get a seat on Saigon-Hong Kong route this wkend . Should I give up hope and buy a super expensive one way or keep on waiting? Seems my chance for an award seat is very slim now :(
