Amex Biz Plat. Complained about the fee not making sense for my business over the next year, they offered $300 off.

I got busy, forgot the chat and got logged out before I could respond. I started a new chat and asked if they could read the chat log about cancelling the card. The rep took 15 minutes “looking for my offer”, and sent an offer for the full $595 off! No mention of the $300 prior offer, no haggling on my end.

Obviously I took it. New account in its second year, ~$15k spend, maybe $20k spend on my other Amex cards this past year.

Schwab Platinum 3rd renewal. Was not offered anything the last few years and the last two times in the last four months I tried for something.

Final try August 3, 2021.
The retention specialist reiterated the benefits of the card and that I could get over $1,100 in annual benefits.
I told them I only value the Priority Pass membership, airline credit (but not at face value), uber credits (but not at face value), saks credit (but not at face value). I have no use for all the other ones offered by the card because my travel has changed drastically. (I think there's a few more benefits I could use but could not remember them during the chat.)
He then went over the "new benefits." I told them they are totally useless for me.

Was offered 55,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $4,000 or more on purchases on your Platinum card account within 3 months of accepting this offer.
Decline the offer as I am already trying to meet minimum spend on three cards.
I flat out told him "No, thank you. I don't want it."
And asked if there's any other offer.
Was offered $550 statement credit after you spend $4,000 or more on purchases on your Platinum Card account within 3 months of accepting this offer.
I told him that's worse than the first offer.
There was no other offer and the card was closed.

What were you looking for? Maybe I am not too greedy, but I would have been very happy with either of the above two offers.

I mentioned in my post that I'm already doing minimum spend on the three cards. I can't spendd another $4k in 3 months because I don't have access to manufactured spending of any kind. It would have to be all regular spend.

Business Gold Rewards Card - $175 annual fee posted on current statement. I called and was offered $100 statement credit up front and an additional $200 credit if I spend $4k within 3 months. If I don't spend it I still get the initial $100 so I took it, but I think I have enough shipping charges (which is my 3x category) to cover $4k over the next 3 months.

Post 13-months retention offers?

Has anyone actually been able to get a retention offer post 13-months?
In other words, let's say you received an officer in 8/20 when the AF hit. So your fee hits 8/21, but you're 12 months, so you would have to wait until like 9/21.
Does Amex actually grant anything, or do they know they have your AF already and won' refund it, so no soup for you?

You can ask at 13 months as long as it is within the 60 day period (maybe 45) of your annual fee posting. But you will only get away with that twice before the window will close on you the next time. Timing is everything, that is why people say max two times every three years. YMMV

If you wait 60 days you'll be out of the 30 day grace period after the annual fee posts to close your card right?

That's what I thought too, hence I wasn't sure if Amex had any "incentive" to keep you since they have your money (non-refundable now?)

You're out of the grace period for a refund but you're always able to downgrade (if that's an option for your card) for a prorated refund. But regardless, my personal experience has been that the refundability of the AF makes no different to the retention offer - it's moreso driven by their other internal cadences (13 months between offers, etc)

Great, thank you! That's what I was trying to get at, but probably didn't explain very well.

I'll post back next month (?) since my Amex Delta Skymiles Platinum fee hit in July and my payment is due in August. I'll have to wait until September 22 or thereabouts to find out about an other retention offer.

They say you only have 30 days after posting. I just got one at 58 days past posting and offered one for a card with fee posted in March. YMMV
