I chatted in about my Schwab Platinum I have had for a few years today. 60k MR for $4k spend in 3m! I also qualify for a $200/year credit for my holdings at Schwab. At $550 - $200 = $350, I would have kept it in any situation. I believe I got a bonus last year as well on this card? They seem to doing aggressive retentions. I complained about the removal of guest privileges at Centurion lounges, impending fee increase, and the fact I also have the business card. I suspect in 2022 they will really see the departures due to the new fee, so perhaps we have another year of bonuses?

Between the fee increase and possible renewed travel disruptions/distancing due to the Delta variant and general waning vaccine protection (new preliminary study published today), I also think we may see some more temporary perks thrown at us.

Blue Business Plus - no retention via chat
Schwab Platinum - no retention via chat; had since August, 2018 and never got retention.
Did not cancel either.
Disappointing as I got 30,000 each on both my Gold cards a few months back.

AMEX Platinum Schwab - first renewal - got the song and dance via web chat - initially got 30K MR for no spend - requested higher offer - got $400 statement credit after $3,000 spend
Accepted the 30K offer since I didn't want to do the chat again

Retention phone line offer was $150, no spend requirement, keep card for 12 mos. I accepted.
Works for us, I referred my SO to open an AMEX Gold, he'll get 75k pts in 3 mos spending $4k. I got 15k pts for the referral. We'll now have the AMEX Gold and Platinum for a combined $650 annual fee and 90k points till July 2022. Then...we'll reevaluate the perks of Platinum.

Possibly checked in too early (1 week prior to annual fees hitting), so declined all but was honestly taken aback after seeing all the data points. I hold both the CS and Vanilla platinum, so not sure if that played a role.
CS Platinum: First renewal, $11k spend last year - NO offers
Vanilla Platinum: 2nd renewal, received retention (small 20k MR) last year, $14k spend Y1, $4k spend Y2 - $150 Statement credit
Gold: 3rd renewal, NO retentions received, $4k spend/year - NO offers
Reasons Given for Platinum:
- New credits worthless to me (Entertainment/Equinox)
- Travels credit difficult to use compared to competitors + Crowded lounges
- CS Invest Devaluation
Reasons Given for Gold:
- Annual fee not competitive with other cards in my portfolio with equal benefits
I am very surprised at the Gold based on the history of no retention offers as well as the CS platinum. I was originally planning on keeping one of the Platinums, but now both will be canceled unless there is a significant increase when I try again post annual fee hitting

Some of my offers posted promptly, others take a long time. An upgrade from Green to Gold was in May, but AmEx is only giving me the "8 to 12 weeks" line.
