Likely a colonial aspect to it.

There are far more and bigger French colonies than Lebanon.

Because it was profitable. This is the only determining factor. The same reason Caracas and Tehran had Concorde service

Any recent news on the reopening of the full CDG LP Lounge? Looking at a possible lengthy February connection but not if it’s still the current J mezzanine setup.

Not so much colonial past than political and societal present. France has been a very influential and possibly even dominant culture since several centuries in Lebanon, especially but far from exclusively for the large Christian community there. The education system for a long time was French, and still today a large portion of the best and other private schools are basically French schools. The period for a few decades where France was officially adminsitering/governing Lebanon is but a blip in the history of the two countries. Many Lebanese live between the two countries, have homes/appartments here and there, even the middle class not just a few super rich (the corrupt guys also have great real estate in Paris, but it's not just that). When the explosions in Beirut happened the French president was the first one there, and he returned a few weeks later. An exception was made for immigration rules, making an offer to all Lebanese to come and settle in France, all visas would be granted. It's a sort of special relationship.

The wealthy go back and forth to Paris or through Paris, and for many there it's a choice between private jet and Air France in P. Also, lots of cargo on that route.

The thing that may have changed this now is the political and economic crisis that puts the country on trajectory to a failed state. Many people are leaving the country, many people have fallen into poverty, can't get their money out of the bank. That has also reduced the demand for cargo, there simply is less foie gras, champagne, macarons and designer clothing to transport there. Add COvid to that and you have a perfect storm. Not sure P will come back ever.

Well, that's a much better way of saying what I meant by "colonial history."

I don't think that there's news on that front but I think it's dicey for February. Unfortunately, there aren't much better options out there (FCL A closed and unlikely/will not be open in Feb).

I flew P yesterday from CDG to JFK, after paying for an upgrade and a rather hectic process that I described here .

I didn't get much of the ground services since I arrived to the K lounge as a J passenger, but once the upgrade cleared I was walked to the mezzanine where there was only one other passenger. I had just enough time for the coquillettes, some Krug, and a baba au rhum . The staff was lovely as ever despite the circumstances.

I did ask about the lounge renovation, and I was told that everything is done at this point and they are finalizing the last decoration details (like putting the furniture etc). One of the agents told me that the changes were not drastic, so... we will see. I also asked about the reopening date: one agent told me February, and another told me that it will reopen whenever flight loads pick up again but I'm not convinced any of them knew.

As for the rest of the experience, it was more or less the same as usual. Service was stellar, maybe slightly invasive during the flight (like commenting on the movies I'm watching), and I had the cabin to myself since they actually had to call a crew just for me because of my last minute upgrade. Food was good although not as good as usual (the beef was tough and tasteless for instance). No regrets despite the fairly high price tag!

You're very welcome! Just added a picture with the menu and wine (forgot to take a picture of the pre landing snack, but it's the last picture with the little scallop/mushroom skewer).
