That's indeed a very good price!

I have a somewhat interesting experience to report from yesterday - apologies for the long winded post.

I was on a paid Z ticket from CDG to JFK. During OLCI, they offered an upgrade to P for 3989 euros (there was no one in P). I didn't take it of course but decided to take a chance at the airport.

I first went to ticketing and asked again, the agent quoted me the same price and then offered more options with cash and miles, but I don't have a lot of miles left so I didn't even pay attention. I mentioned the discounted upgrade price, but she pretended not knowing what I'm talking about and was overall quite rude so I left.

I tried again with the check in agent, who was one of the friendliest and nicest ones I've ever met. At first she told me the same thing, and I explained to her that a few years ago I was sometimes offered the discounted upgrade rate. She decided to fumble around for a little longer, and ended up finding it (1749 euros). But then she noticed that there is a note on my file, and someone typed that I already benefitted from the discounted offers and am no longer eligible. I told her I find that very surprising, because last time I took advantage of such an offer was over 4 years ago. She was extremely surprised, and told me that usually after a year or so, those offers should come back.

I told her that if she can get me the 1749 rate, I'll take it (I know, it's still expensive for a 7-8 hours flight, but I have barely flown this year so I thought it wouldn't be the worst way to reallocate my travel budget ). She then went on a 30 minutes phone call rampage, she was *determined* to find out and help me. She had to call some upper management for them to approve the discount (she struggled a bit and was visibly annoyed, saying that given the situation with Air France right now, they shouldn't reject a client wanting to give them money ).
They finally accepted, but then the other issue was that because we were only 2.5 hours from departure, and there was no one in P, they had to find a La Première crew for me. She told me to head over to the lounge and they will ping me there if the upgrade comes through.

When I arrived at the K lounge, a manager was waiting there and knew about the situation and told me all was good and the upgrade was accepted. I then chatted a little longer with him because I really wanted to clarify this situation about discounted upgrades eligibility and the note on my file. He told me that those offers disappear after someone takes advantage of them, but should reappear after a while and that it makes no sense I got no discounted offers at all for several years.

Does anyone have actual details about how those discounted offers work? I see many of you get them regularly despite being really frequent flier. I'm going to write to La Première today to give some feedback on my flight yesterday, but also ask if they can somehow remove this note on my file, which seems to be blocking me permanently from getting the offers.
