Comparative Review of Five Different Star Alliance Lounges at Heathrow T2

United Club Hours 5:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m. daily (as of October 2023) (standard UC access policies0
Global First Class GS / VIP lounge (newly open May 2022) (GS and at time 1K Polaris customers -- based on space)

Arrival Lounge Hours 6:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. (open as of June 13, 2022)
The arrivals lounge at London Heathrow, located immediately after immigration and customs, is a shared space with shower suites, breakfast items and more. This lounge is exclusively available for United Polaris business class travelers.
Eligible travelers must be flying on a same-day ticket arriving before noon and cannot bring guests. Additionally, United Club memberships and one-time passes dont grant access to this lounge.

Although the requirement is to enter before 12PM for arrivals, there have been reports of entry up until 1:30PM.

I am a bit curious as to how DEN-LHR-IST ends up SFO-LHR-MUC. If though you have that flexibility then is there a particular desire or need to connect at LHR? There are arguably better UA or Star Alliance options to get you to continental Europe. LHR is not a great airport for international connections and in general is best avoided if reasonable alternatives exist.

Note though that while very infrequent, LH flights can, and do, depart from B gates as well, so one should keep an eye on the monitors.

Almost any airline lounge in Heathrow is closer to a Polaris lounge than a domestic UC. The bar for airline lounges at LHR historically set by BA and VS has been rather high and other airlines have had no choice than to offer comparable or competitive products. That said, it is subjective whether the United Lounge is truly the best in T2. I have several times gone to the SQ lounge in preference, and not felt that I was missing anything. Indeed, I will happily take a Singapore Sling and some Asian Cuisine over the worn offerings in a crowded afternoon United Club anyday.

I would offer a counter to LHR T2 UC being closer to Polaris lounge than domestic UCs. Yes, there are mediocre ones, but the newer domestic UCs, such as those at EWR and ORD, are good examples.

Explanation is easy. Starting point is RNO. And ending point is different. So DEN, SFO, LHR, MUC, IST are transit points.

A quote from Snatch comes in mind:

Customs official: Anything to declare?
Avi: Yeah. Don't go to England.

Unfortunatelly LHR mandatory transit point to get to the destination with award tickets. Award tickets are available only via MUC or IST and getting there is only available via LHR.

I was reading some time ago that departure gate info is displayed only 1h before departure, is this the case?
Once we arrive on our UA flight, what would be the best strategy to clear the security faster? Are there two security points - one next to A gates and second - at B gates? It was mentioned that going to B gates and clearing security there is faster. Is this the case?

Thanks, this is good feedback. Is SK lounge at A gates or B gates? Have you been there after renovation in Feb?

I spent 10 years in Singapore and quite familiar with SK lounges in Asia and want to know if LHR lounge is at the same level as SIN lounge.

Heathrow is easy (in my opinion) just follow the purple transfer signs. There is a T-2B gate transit that is open in the mornings for T-2B to T-2B connections, it is right before the long tunnel with the moving walkways that take you to T-2A. I don't know if you need a B gate boarding pass or not to use it so that you could get into the departure stream in T-2B to immediately use the SKL or UC. Nevertheless, if you make your wayback to T-2A and you follow there purple signs there is a transit security, which may or may not be fast- it all depends in the amount of transit passengers. There is no way to predict that. Once cleared, go up the escalator and it lets you out in a small area next to the Plaza Premium lounge where agents check boarding passes. Clear that, and you're on the loose in T-2A where the LH lounge is (on upper level) and LH flights depart from. As I said above, the SilverKris lounge is in T-2B, as is the United Club. It's a trek back and forth from A-B-A and not really worth it.

Yes, gate information is shown ~1 hr prior to departure. This is common in Europe (Heathrow) and not a big deal at all.

SK is SilverKris lounge abbreviation for people who are flying with SQ a lot. Because there is also SQ Golden Lounge for 'ordinary' *A members.

The abbreviation for that is SKL. SK lounge would be interpreted as a lounge operated by SK

This is all great info. I will mention that even if the T2B to T2B security area is open, they limit the use to certain airlines / flights. If you are not on one of the flights posted, you will not be allowed to use it. Even if you have a T2B boarding pass for a different flight.

Little Big Ben is No More

They have other plans for the space was all I could squeeze out of the staff.
EDIT: And now I overhear a group in badges discussing this wall coming down and theres where well extend into the lobby.
Something is afoot! A Polaris Lounge as per the original plan?

As this wall backs, I believe, backs onto the seating area of the main lounge, I can only presume that they are putting something else on the wall or in front of it. Perhaps a portrait of our dear Leader?

A year or so ago I was told that the plan was to knock down the wall, essentially eliminating the smaller lounge, which would be a shame. It hasn't happened so maybe there are more positive developments in store for us.

This has to be the reason. Combining the 2 spaces would be much more efficient use of the space, claiming all the division and circulation areas into seating / functional space.

If so, I really hope the construction is well thought out and quick. There will have to be some reduction in capacity as they make the changes.

I may be mistaken, but isnt that (formerly clock) wall on the south side of the VIP lounge and main lounge is on other side of kitchen area to west? If thats the case, maybe theyre grabbing new space to the south to build around the kitchen.
