The arrivals lounge at London Heathrow, located immediately after immigration and customs, is a shared space with shower suites, breakfast items and more. This lounge is exclusively available for United Polaris business class travelers.
Eligible travelers must be flying on a same-day ticket arriving before noon and cannot bring guests. Additionally, United Club memberships and one-time passes dont grant access to this lounge.
Although the requirement is to enter before 12PM for arrivals, there have been reports of entry up until 1:30PM.

This has to be the reason. Combining the 2 spaces would be much more efficient use of the space, claiming all the division and circulation areas into seating / functional space.
If so, I really hope the construction is well thought out and quick. There will have to be some reduction in capacity as they make the changes.

"Ordinary" *A members have no access to Gold lounge, which is only available at SIN, you need to be Gold or above, or part of SQ PPS club members.

Just to clarify my OP, the discussion I overheard about this wall coming down took place as the group in badges was standing in the space to the right of the entry desk. So its not clear to me which wall they were referring to (but probably not the Big Ben wall).

Confirmed with agents today. They are making the LHR UC into one lounge with no deference to those of us who want a quiet space and get great service from the staff in the smaller lounge. None of the agents seem happy about it, but at the same time they aren't fond of people crossing back and forth in the lobby with food and drinks. I am always here in the morning so I don't see much of that but I suppose by lunchtime that could happen a lot.

So it isnt like United is taking away your choice of wanting a quiet space. By removing the wall and overall expanding the space seems to be the right move and probably should have done soon after it stopped becoming a dedicated GFL/GS/VIP space.

Quite disappointing. It was part of the value proposition for being a LHR-based GS. UA’s calculations are probably correct - it’s not going to be a straw that breaks the camel’s back - but was certainly one of the nice things that UA offered in LHR (a lounge where they have serious lounge competition with BA GF/CRR, the plethora of great T3 One World lounges, and VS UC).

So the original plan of having Polaris Lounges in London, Hong Kong and Tokyo is clearly ended.
we all knew it was not happening but with the LHR UC plan in place, it is as good as carved in stone.

I dont really see the need for a PL at LHR. Other than the table service dining, is that there big of a difference? The UC at LHR is pretty close to a PL.

fair but the IAH and LAX UCs are very different experiences from the LHR UC. Look Im very disappointed by this as it takes away a very nice segregated lounge which was a differentiator for GS (and select 1Ks) but the disappointment has nothing to do with the product offered.
