United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

Usual caveats...how important you arrive at RDU vrs backup options that would be available, etc.

Yeah should add -- GE, TSA Precheck (need to sign up for CLEAR but there's not one at RDU so haven't bothered), no checked bags.

RDU is home so missed connection means getting home 3 hours later

Best EWR hotel for early AM flight?

Does anyone have any hotel recommendations for an overnight connection? Flight from EWR (international) leaves at 8:15. Would be arriving around 1 pm the previous day, but other alternatives are $500 extra or more. The overnight would be a given on any other carrier, because it's otherwise a LONG travel day with tight connections, so it works better split up, just a different hub. If we stay at EWR, we can catch a train to NYC for entertainment/dinner and get a half-decent night's sleep.

I used to be AA-loyal, but now that STL is more AA outstation than hub, UA is getting more of my business because they have less-expensive J/F fares, and they have F seats to their hubs from STL now, which was my main complaint about UA in the past. I don't travel enough that loyalty gains me anything, and it's not like I have a ton of choices about flight schedules.

Marriott Newark Airport is just across from Terminal B, 24 hour shuttle to all terminals, and easy access to air train to catch a train to visit NYC.

You have a bunch of options - you can stay on airport properties (Marriott) or other nearby airport hotels. If you are planning to go to NYC, I would recommend staying within walking distance to Penn Station, so you can get back to EWR first thing the next morning.

Will be flying EWR-DCA on UA. Some flights leave from terminal A and others leave from terminal C. Does UA have check-in counters in both terminals ?

Yes, but you should check-in at the terminal from where the flight is scheduled to depart, which can be obtained/confirmed a few hours prior to take off.

Thanks for your responses. Can anyone tell me if I can go from terminal A gate 30 (AA) to terminal A gate 24 (UA) without having to go through security twice? I will be flying on UA but belong to the AA Admirals Club which is near gate 30. Thanks

Correct, with exception for lifetime member (UA BP would work).

Has anyone taken the UA shuttle bus from Terminal A to C recently?
How long will it take and how often do the shuttles run?

Will be flying next month DCA-EWR (UA GoJet, usually arrival terminal A gate 25) then connect to another domestic flight (UA, terminal C gate 102).
Only have 55 min for the connection, is that enough?
Also, is there any premier access lane for UA first class?

Last time I did that I missed my connection. I ran to gate C122 flight to SJU got to gate 10 minutes before departure door closed. They no longer track connections flights at gate.
Book me JFK-SJU that afternoon.
