MCT for EWR (2012)
https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights
United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

I would shoot for somewhere around 1.5 to 2 hours.
If you miss the connection, doubt there would be any good way to get to KEF without an overnight. So would not really push for tightest connection possible.
KEF will depart from Terminal C.
I have a lot of experience with CVG <-> EWR. Mostly good experiences, any delays have been sub-1 hour.
GoJet has (almost) exclusive use of Terminal A at EWR. So if GoJet is the operator, plan on Terminal A.
The other UAX operators will use Terminal C.
Allow about 15 minutes +/- for the transfer from A to C via airside bus.
LAX->EWR will be the PS route, so great ride in First if you are going that way.

EWR International->Domestic connection
Will be flying BER-EWR-IND in June, on a Sunday. Was originally booked through IAD with a 3h layover but they pulled the BER-IAD route so I had to rebook through EWR, 2.5 hour connection. I've (successfully) transitted in the US before with a tighter margin than that, so I wasn't too worried. United have just changed the EWR-IND segment for the third time in as many weeks, and now my itinerary is as follows:
BER-EWR 09.50-13.10 (UA 963)
EWR-IND 14.47-17.07 (UA 3555)
Which makes the connection 1h 37 minutes. This is too risky, correct? EU passport + ESTA with hold luggage - I will have to clear immigration, customs, change terminals (B-C), recheck bag and clear security whilst not holding any queue-jumping privileges.
Alternative is a 3h 47 minute layover and taking UA 3616 to IND instead which departs at 16.57. I do not want a 4h wait but it's also imperative I get to IND that night with as little disruption to the trip as possible. I can't see the shorter layover working unless I'm very lucky and UA 963 lands ahead of schedule, but it will still be peak time for international arrivals, end of school year in Europe so packed flights, NY airspace, etc. Re-routing involves two layovers and a 7am start which I refuse to have as working until 1am the night before.
What is your advice? Many thanks!

I agree 1h37m is a very short connection for your itinerary.
You didn't say which Sunday, but on Sunday June 12th which I looked at, there are more EWR-IND flights at 15:29, 17:43, 19:05, 20:29. Chances are good there will be 1 seat available on at least one of those flights, so missing your flight wouldn't be the end of the world. It is very likely you would get to IND same day on a later flight.
So the question then becomes, would you like to wait 4 hours for sure (book the later flight), or book the shorter flight and maybe wait 1.5 hours, maybe wait 4 hours, maybe wait 6 hours.
If you drive, you could also consider flying to Chicago ORD, renting a car, and driving (3-4 hours) as a backup option.

EWR Connection
Need advice. Family (n=3) was booked on a late-June nonstop IAD-DUB. United recently cancelled the nonstop and re-booked us IAD-EWR-DUB. The problem: only a 1 hour connection time at EWR (scheduled arrival 9pm;.scheduled departure 10pm) Called United, asked to be booked on an earlier IAD-EWR flight, they said it would cost an additional $1200 per passenger. Thinking we could talk AMTRAK from DC to Newark Liberty, asked whether we could cancel first leg only of outbound trip: agent said it, too, would cost an additional $1200 per person. Not sure what to do at this point: by all accounts, 1hour connection at EWR nearly guarantees we will miss the second leg of the outbound flight. Suggestions? Thanks.

An hour connection at EWR for an arriving international to domestic, that could be a problem,. But IAD-EWR-DUB, fairly safe. Might prefer 90 minutes.
Note on the return from DUB, you will clear USA customs and immigration in DUB, so again in EWR it with just be a domestic to domestic connection.

I agree - it's an easy connection if flights are on time. That being said, you might try another agent. Tell him/her UA made change to connecting flight from non-stop and you're uncomfortable with connection time. Have you looked at the seat map of the flight you prefer - are there lots of seats?

They moved you from a non-stop to a one-stop and won't accommodate you taking an early flight to EWR? That seems pretty terrible, I would think it should be a free change situation due to the schedule change (though I don't know UA's rules inside out).
I live in NYC and never trust the airports here, I'd want more than the one hour scheduled connection since there's no other DUB flight after the 10pm flight.
(Others are correct, the one hour is doable if everything goes well. I never trust everything to go well at NYC airports, especially in the PM)

They reduced my connection to an uncomfortable level in EWR. I think I used Twitter to get them to change. They first tried to tell me it was a fee, but I had to REMIND them that it was due to a change in schedule made by them. Once I reminded them, they sent me a message on Twitter telling me they could make the change at no cost.
The next flight was the same situation in ORD. But, this time I used the messaging function on 'Contact United' on the website and was able to get the change made.
Its helps to remind them that it is a change they made, and have the new flights you want handy. You shouldn't have to take the train at your cost. This was a United change, and they should allow you to make the change for free.

Honestly, I avoid EWR connections as much as possible. I hate the airport itself, and that’s before the potential delays. Don’t even ask me about my last connection there, which to be fair was several years ago, but a comedy of errors all around.

Resolution
Need advice. Family (n=3) was booked on a late-June nonstop IAD-DUB. United recently cancelled the nonstop and re-booked us IAD-EWR-DUB. The problem: only a 1 hour connection time at EWR (scheduled arrival 9pm;.scheduled departure 10pm) Called United, asked to be booked on an earlier IAD-EWR flight, they said it would cost an additional $1200 per passenger. Thinking we could take AMTRAK from DC to Newark Liberty, asked whether we could cancel first leg only of outbound trip: agent said it, too, would cost an additional $1200 per person. Not sure what to do at this point: by all accounts, 1hour connection at EWR nearly guarantees we will miss the second leg of the outbound flight. Suggestions? Thanks.

Postscript: At the recommendation of the participants in this Thread, I used the "chat" feature on the UAL website to correspond with an agent who immediately -- and without any pushback at all -- changed the itinerary (at no cost) to an earlier IAD-EWR flight, which now provides more than enough EWR layover time. Thank you for your excellent advice.

Is this lounge actually open? Would it happen to be an arrivals lounge too? Would it be a viable option for hanging out after arriving BOS-EWR on United and before a TAP J EWR-LIS 5:40 am flight (separate tickets)?
