MCT for EWR (2012)

https://www.newarkairport.com/at-airport/connecting-flights

United Airlines operates an "air side" shuttle bus between Terminals A and C from 4:00AM to 12:00AM (midnight). In addition, United also operates a shuttle bus connecting Terminals A and C to terminal B (pier 3, used by Star Alliance carriers) from 1:00PM to 11:00PM, but not in the opposite direction (shuttle does not board at Terminal B). The shuttle bus is available at gate A28 and C70 as illustrated in the image above. The shuttle drops off passengers at the terminal B through the service entry, that requires walking up 2 flights of stairs - there is no elevator. Only the front bus doors will open for alighting at terminal B.This service is free and you will not have to go through TSA security again. Please note this shuttle is operated at the sole responsibility of United Airlines and is subject to modification at their discretion.

EWR Connection B > C time and luggage

Hi there,

Tried to find a current answer for this but could not. I'm looking at booking this:

United UA905 8h
09:00 > 12:00
LHR London Heathrow > EWR New York Newark

1h 45 Connect in airport

United UA1929 2h 45
13:45 > 16:30
EWR New York Newark > MCO Orlando International

Looks like this is terminal B to C based on recent flights, I have not been to EWR for years. I have Global Entry and TSA Pre, is this a comfortable connection time?

Is the luggage checked through or do I collect it and check it back in?

Many thanks for your help,

Jonathan

MCT is 1:30

With GE and PreCheck this doable even with checked bags
non-USA passport?
Likely no time for Polaris Lounge

As is always true for the USA, customs and immigration is at the Port of Entry, not destination, so yes you will need to collect your bags and recheck

As with any international itinerary arriving in the USA, you must collect and (if continuing) recheck your bag(s) at the first port of entry. In this case UA has a bag drop in terminal B right outside the customs hall. You can then proceed upstairs to the AirTrain or exit the terminal and follow the walkway to get to C for your connecting flight. It's nt far.

I went to get the bus shuttle over to terminal A, and they are now making everyone for the bus queue at the upper level gate area. When I was there, they line was way into the terminal area, almost to the top of the ramp / security area.

And new signage that shows gates 71T thru 71Z now here as well. Only thing I can think of is bussing to planes with this setup...
Another crappy development at EWR. Guess a karmic trade off for having a nice United Club.

4559 AVP-EWR arrived C71V and that aircraft then went out as 4582 EWR-RIC out of C71V

I haven't researched further to see how much these gates are being used, or if it goes beyond CR5 flights.

All of the DCA departures used A gates as usual.
They are definitely using bus gates at Newark. I was originally slotted to arrive at an A gate, but sometime in flight it was update to 71x.
The planes park at the very far side of the C gates (red area below), then passengers get bused over to C71.

We had to wait on board a bit for a bus to be available. The bus that showed up only accommodated half the passengers. The rest had to wait for another bus. Thankfully, only a short wait for the 1st bus and the weather was nice. No idea how long the 2nd half waited.
This definitely has the possibility of significantly impacting connection times if you end up unlucky in the gate lottery.

Are the bus gates in C3 (C130v/w/x/y/z IIRC) no longer in use? In the pre-covid era I've deplaned at that area on your map but got bused to C3 not C1 (which is also a much shorter bus ride)

I haven't been down that way in a while, so not sure if they are still being used or not.

I have a UA intl itn with domestic segment starting in EWR. I wanted to get there a little early check out the new UA lounge and visit the polaris lounge.
Because of a last minute cancellation of that segment, I'm now on a regional jet leaving out of A.
1. Will I be able to checkin at C? OLCI wont work, says they need to look at my passport eventhough its been scanned many times. I don't see an issue but who knows
2. Will TSA let me in with an A BP? If I recall, the answer is Yes
3. Will I have any issues getting lounge access with a BP for another terminal? I wouldnt imagine this to be an issue
4. How often does the airside A-C bus run and how long does it typically take? Someone above mentioned 15min but The post above with the line doesnt look promising. I'll be there in the morning.

Yes to 1-3; no problem with that plan at all. Bus runs about every 10-15min, at least during daytime hours, and I think the line pictured above is not typical. There are staff strictly controlling access to the bus, so have your BP out.

I am curious which hub you will fly out to an international destination.IAD, ORD, IAH are unlikely to have a flight on RJ. If you fly to BOS/PHL/DTW first, you will be on LH. In this case, you won't be able to access to Polaris Lounge at EWR. But you are still eligible for UC.
Good luck.

The same question occurred to me, but there is a GoJet operated EWR-IAD flight, so it would work with that. But indeed, if it is connecting to non-UA longhaul flight, no PL access.

EWR-IAD-BRU... So I still have PL access.
When they cancelled my original EWR-IAD, they put me on a gojet EWR-IAD flight. I'd try to change to the direct, but it was too late for finding PZ>0. Maybe if it were a same-day cancellation, they'd open up some space for me, but it was cancelled like a week in advance. So my IAD layover is really long, but I've been meaning to try out the various B lounges, havent been over there since they are all closed/reduced

That seems like a perfectly good itinerary to me. I would always pick IAD for the TATL over EWR — the extra 200 miles can be a valuable extra 20 minutes of sleep — and IAD is a decent place to spend a day. You can use the PL as an office if you have work to do, or you can enjoy lounge hopping, or some of both. Enjoy.

<500mi flights helped me get to 1MM alot faster actually. Yes, I've spend ALOT of time in the IAD lounge/office, this time, I think I'll be trying the B lounges since they're all open now and improved since a year ago.
This time, I really wanted to see the new UC at EWR.

Anyways, thanks for the quick answer

How about C to A ?

I arrive EWR from LAX at 5:36 am and Depart to RIC at 6:35 am

I’ve never taken the shuttle before, seems rather tight to me. Any thoughts?

Seems the 787 red eyes from LAX landed either at 110 or 138 the last few days, they typically arrive T- C2 so that’ll be a little bit of a walk to C70 to catch the bus

I did notice that on Thursday and Friday of this week the RIC flight departed from terminal A which is very close to the shuttle stop there, however today and tomorrow they’re going out of C 71 V/W?

My question would be moot, if they’re going out of terminal C to RIC but every time I checked before weekday flights go out of A

Flights are a couple of weeks away

Lastly do the CRJ 550s have storage for carry on 22” wheelie’s or Gate Check? Yes, just figured that out:

very much doable. If the flight ex-LAX departs on time, you should arrive early on the red-eye, and have more than sufficient time to make the connection. Otherwise, I would work with GA at LAX already for alternative schedule.
