To the US I find that there aren't as many people using the GE machines as the NEXUS ones.
It doesn't help that the city I live in has to take connecting traffic from YYC/YYJ/YEG/YWG etc.

At YYZ T3 the GE machine is always faster than the Nexus.

Interesting. I thought renewals don't need interviews if things haven't changed too much. Have you visited any deemed at-risk countries in the last 5 years?

It could be the new birther-faction in DHS. They want to see long form birth certificates and such. The Republican/Tea Party spin of the last few years have convinced them to not trust any paperwork anymore.

It is becoming the norm. 8 to 9 weeks to finish processing the application.

My goodness, how do you make the TSA take NEXUS as ID. I'm at Logan right now, and the TSA person would not take my NEXUS and called over a supervisor, who laid into me for bothering him. I said he's got to train his staff so they recognize the NEXUS, and he just told me I had some attitude and that he would make a scene if he wanted to because he is the supervisor and I should watch out. Clearly at this point I'm not going to argue with him. I did have my passport, but had I had to fly last week, I would not have as it was under renewal. This is a domestic flight, to be clear. Ruined my morning...

You may use your license as an ID all Canadian licenses are approved by TSA
I used it many times often the agent will pull their manual to check it. But approved without calling the supervisor

If I get someone who doesn't know what it is, I just pull out my DL or passport instead. Yes, it's supposed to be accepted ID for TSA purposes. But, no, not worth it, at least IMO, to argue or wait for a super. YMMV, I guess. You can also ask them to check the book they have with a list of all valid ID. Ive done this in the past, but not really worth it from my perspective.

If you want lots of sympathy and support, I suggest going over to theTS&S forum, where there's at least one or more threads specifically on Nexus as accepted ID, and the posts there seem to share your tone.

Happened to me a couple of years back and I made sure the agents I was speaking to will remember the Nexus card, I did spend 5 minutes explaining to them what it was. After all, if you can cross the border travelling with it both ways, how in the world is it not a valid document for TSA? Technically, you don't need to have any other identification on you if you have the card in NA, assuming you are not on H1-B or in need of visa.

That's not correct if you are flying transborder. Your passport is still needed when going through an airport and crossing the border. It's only the land border where it's not required. Get sent to secondary, and if you don't have your passport with you, you're pretty much going to have your nexus taken away. It's very clear in the guide.

You're also in trouble if the machines are down.

TSA are NOT border agents, from what I've read TSA recruits anyone with any english skills. I just wouldnt bother and would just show the Passport...

Though...I will be using my Nexus for the first time this weekend when I head to Rhode Island on Business...might have some fun with the TSA agents + Nexus ;)

Finally after also 9+ weeks I got my conditional approval on my Nexus app.

Here's a few tidbits of FYI in case people are interested:

1. Interview scheduled at Lansdowne (border nr Watertown NY, no iris scan) and there was very little wait, interviews available in under a week, though times are limited (on that more in a sec).

2. Crossed the tiny border between Wolfe Island Ont & Cape Vincent NY twice on Monday (Mem'l Day in US)... quizzed the border folk on both sides... result:
a. Can bross both ways with only Nexus (had to ask, as people have said YMMV), all agents both sides were very nice with immediate replies on this.
b. Nexus lane in my usual cross point (Thousand Islands or TI or Lansdowne, whatever you want to call it) is open limited hours, usually only M to F 6-8am and evening commute, no weekends or holidays, which are actually when it really backs up! So that's annoying to hear.
c. American border person gave me a look when I asked about Nexus interviews, apparently they're not too fond of the "guy in charge of Nexus" at Lansdowne (American).

So my preference will still be using the ferries, since the Nexus lane is hit & miss at my border. This makes Nexus not too useful for me, but then the first reason to get it was to get GE after, so that's still good/useful. :)

My letter says I only have to take their letter and a passport but just in case I'll take something addressed to my U.S. address. No idea where my birth certificate is but it was clearly NOT listed as something I had to take.

Many thanks to everyone who has posted status updates, otherwise I'd have been worried/anxious about this.

passport renewal

I was wondering about something. My passport is out for renewal right now. I am planning to go to the nexus office as soon as I recieve it to get it updated. I have checked the status and they provide a so called locator number which, I believe is actually the number of the new passport. So now I am wondering if I can still use my nexus card while I'm waiting for the passport. The reason is that when a new passport is issued, the old one gets cancelled, and I would think this would flag the nexus card.

Has anyone else had any experience using the nexus card after the new passport number has been issued but before the new passport has arrived?
