It does sound like different people are getting different answers, but when I renewed mine at YYZ a few weeks ago, the US officer took my old card back and told me that I could not use NEXUS until I received my new card in the mail (which was less than two weeks later).
So my advice is not to take the chance. My bad. I should have clarified that my previous card had expired at the time. |
Please forgive, as I searched around and couldn't find anything.
Is there anything other than going through regular CBSA rigmarole when arriving at an airport other than one of the NEXUS airports? Should I even bother showing my card? Can I use the crew lane? I ask because I plan on using YKF more often now that AA/MQ is flying there. |
Applied April 19, conditional approval granted June 10, just under 8 weeks.
Pretty brutal times though, earliest appointment at YVR was July 29, Blaine July 24, Vancouver/Seattle downtown August |

You don't update it on the website - u have to do it at an office. I haven't had to update in this in a while, but bring proof with you (I.e., a biz card) to prove it. Last time I went to change it, I had run out, and they wouldn't change it without that.

Do you know if when you update it at the NEXUS office if GOES changes to reflect the new information? Because I updated my employment information in December 2010 at YYZ and I checked GOES now and it still has the information from when I first applied.

The normal procedure is to update GOES then go to the NEXUS office with paperwork for them to verify and copy as required. I don't think they update vs. confirm things.

According to a Nexus agent at the YYZ office a couple of months ago you no longer need to fill out a Nexus declaration card coming back to Canada if you are below the limit.
Thank you. BC |

Thanks for your reply but more clearly I'm asking why do you need to fill out any form if you are under the allowances. I thought you only had to fill it out if you were over the allowances? No? Can't really find the answer to this one way or another?
BC I have been told you can do verbal declarations any time, but others have been told no. Since I don't know what is the exact right thing to do, I'd rather just take the three minutes to fill out the form and move on. |
Put my renewal in the system Friday, April 27, and was approved (no interview) Monday, June 11. ^

You can't update employment information online - you have to do it in person. I'm asking if I should see the updated information on GOES after updating it in person, as it currently shows what was on my original application.
(It would be pretty hilarious if they were wrong, since the American agent kept going on and on about how other people don't know anything about Nexus and we [civilians] get things wrong all the time...!) :) |

The approval notification is short on details. There is no reference to an interview, so I am guessing that I don't need one and that I will receive a new card in the mail. My renewal application is still listed on the GOES website as "Pending Review", but I am also listed as enrolled in the Trusted Traveler program. |

About the same timing for me as well; I applied for renewal two days earlier than you and was approved today. However, I had let my Nexus expire before re-applying for renewal.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP), NEXUS program membership has been approved. You may use the program as soon as you receive and activate your new NEXUS card. If you enrolled in Global Entry, you may begin using the kiosk immediately. I also show "pending review" as well, but my Trusted Traveler Program status is now valid until 2017 on my birthdate. I assume the new application will disappear eventually—perhaps with my new card being mailed. Brian |
what is the process to apply for Global Entry? I am already enrolled in the NExus program since the start.
|
May be a stupid question, but is the YUL enrollment center closed or temporarily not accepting any new appointments?
It has been "The enrollment center Montreal Enrollment Center you selected does not have any available appointments." since Friday. |
Renewal with Citizenship or Name Change
Just got Conditional approval today; I had a name change and citizenship change.
BOTH I already had updated on GOES and with CBP and CBSA in person in YVR. STILL though asked for an interview :( Got earliest one in YVR which is August 7th; works out fine as I won't be back in Canada till that week anyway; existing Nexus/GE doesn't expire till December anyway. |
