Should of posted my nexus experience...
I went in for nexus 2 years ago, aged 15.
I was booked in to the Downtown Vancouver office, First person I saw was the US CBP officer, which did have to call his supervisor over as neither of my parents have nexus and my dad was not present to the interview, but my step brother & his kids + wife do currently have nexus (he is the one i travel via land to the us with) therefor I did not have to pay the $50. after confirming his information everything was good, The same information did have to be confirmed with the cbsa officer. I did not get my iris scanned at that time. Will be going in tomorrow to get my iris & 10 fingerprints done. (for global entry & nexus booths) I have used my nexus for numerous visits to the us via land (also found out that you can do a verbal deceleration to the cbsa officer when entering Canada in the nexus lane at the border, after being asked why we were using the regular lane with our nexus cards), also for domestic air travel in Canada using the trusted traveler lane (if i remember correctly you use the fast trak lane at YVR). I believe that 50 dollars that nexus cost is worth it, as it expedites land travel especially in Vancouver where peach arch at times is 50 minutes, while nexus is 5-10, and even greater added convenience as there are 2 nexus lanes at the truck border. With the airport security as an added bonus. |

Poor, as you'd again be dealing with front line worker. However, it probably is worth your time to appeal the current decision, as you are entitled to do. That will get it above the first line worker, and also give you a chance to provide more detailed information. I have no direct experience with this, so can't provide more advice than checking the Nexus site for more information or contacting an immigration lawyer.

Another option besides NEXUS
On AC web site!
Clear the border faster at Montreal-Trudeau If you have a valid Canadian passport or permanent resident card, you now have the option of using an Automated Border Clearance kiosk to clear the border when returning to Canada through Montreal-Trudeau airport (YUL). The self serve kiosks are easy to use and involve no registration process or fee. And one person can make a declaration for up to four people provided everyone lives at the same address. The Automated Border Clearance kiosks are also currently in use at Vancouver International Airport and will be made available at other Canadian international airports in the future. |

Hello ,
My Nexus application was denied. During the course of the interview I mistakenly mentioned we had a branch office in NY and I might sometime go there to visit it. The officer then stuck to the point of telling me to provide work authorization paper. I never had one since I never worked there. he then mentioned that I may have illegally worked there and cant grant me the card. ( I would appeal the decision and explain the American corporation is a separate entity with its own employees, and all you do is liaise with them. At no time do you do any work which is compensated by the American corporation and you attend meetings and that's all. They may still not grant you Nexus though because it's a "Low risk" program. If they think you might possibly have worked, that's enough to say you're not to be trusted. There is no burden of proof in this program really (there sort of is, but sort of not). |
Thanks everyone for the invaluable input here.
Online application: 16/04/2012 Conditional approval: 08/06/2012 Interview (and approval) at YOW: 22/06/2012 All done in just over 9-weeks. Not too bad. I was originally scheduled for an interview in Champlain NY in August but a spot opened up on 22/06 72h before that time and I snagged it. I was a bit worried about the interview but it was a very simple. Staff were very nice and courteous; they asked "standard" questions you get when you cross the border. I even showed up early and when asked if I could be met earlier I was processed 5 minutes later. Very positive experience. It took +-20 minutes fingerprints and iris scan included. |
I'm looking for an interview sooner than the one I have scheduled, am I doing this right:
- Log in to GOES - Click Manage Interview Appointment - Click Reschedule Appointment - Select Toronto Shows me 09/26 today (for example) Just wanted to be sure there wasn't somewhere else to check - I keep seeing September dates, but thought I would see a cancellation here and there - I check at least 3x per day for the past 10 days. I'm scheduled for 9/4 at the moment |

I'm scheduled for 9/4 at the moment can't make it they reschedule, which opens up a spot for someone else looking for a spot. I wish they'd just open up an office in downtown Toronto already, like they have in Vancouver. The other option is, instead of YYZ, you can change the location and look at those on the land borders - Fort Erie, Niagra Falls, etc. Yes - a bit of a drive, but ou'll be able to get an appointment much faster at those locations. |
Question:
My daughter is two, therefore no IRIS and no Fingerprint ( from what I remember). So what good is Nexus for a family of four if she has no Iris or Finger print and therefore can't use GE/NExus, other then NEXUS Security? |
with your children you can bypass the regular security line at the airport and go to the Special Services line directly beside the Nexus machines, saves a ton of time. Note, all members should go to the desk together - i.e. don't send the others to the machines, all go together.

How long can you keep rescheduling appointment for interview.
Was approved after my trip to border and my planned trip changed.
So I can not make my July Appt. Next Avail appointment in Vancouver area is September. Is there a time limit between when you are conditionally approved and you have to do your interview? Sad part is it looks like I will visit Canada twice after getting approval but no chance to do interview (I live in MN, so no border close by to visit - Warroad would be an 8+ hour trip). |

People are telling you their experiences. What more do you expect?
More like people have different experiences and seems to align with some of the inconsistency with how NEXUS/GE is deployed at various points. |
