Noob here... I have a ridiculously Middle Eastern name... I'm a US citizen though and have been for decades. I had Global Entry and Nexus (subsequently) but stupidly renewed GE and not Nexus... anyways... long story short... applied on 3/14... wife (ridiculously Swedish name) applied 2 weeks later... she received her card in the mail about 10 days later, and I'm past 11 weeks and still waiting... For context, my international travel is almost exclusively 2 Europe over the past 5 years (with the exception of Canada, Costa Rica, and Mexico)

2 questions..

1) Does anyone on this list know what the escalation process is?
2) Does anyone on this list know whether the escalation process helps? (am I better off just waiting to clear?)

Thank you :)

Keep in mind that as long as you submitted the renewal application before expiration of your current membership, you will continue to receive Global Entry benefits until the renewal is finalized for up to six months after the current expiration date.

That's not my experience... I applied before expiration but when I log in to the TTP site it says " EXPIRED" in a red box and "You cannot use your membership benefits until you renew your membership."

I've traveled internationally twice since expiration and first time I got a big X for trying to go through and a very very thorough search of my bags... the second time I used mobile passport and it went a bit smoother... so at least for me, I did not get the 6-month extension but YMMV

I have no personal experience, as I put in my renewal application ten months before the expiration date of my Global Entry membership and it was approved - without the need for an interview - within less than a week, however, that is the official policy according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website:

When will my TTP membership expire and how soon can I renew my membership?

The expiration date for your program membership is displayed on your TTP dashboard after you login to your account.

To renew your membership, log into your TT account www.ttp.dhs.gov/ and hit the renew button that should appear on the main page one year before the expiration date of your membership. You will then complete the application as if it was the first time.

On renewal you may or may not be selected for an interview. If you submit a renewal application before expiration of your current membership, then you can continue to use your benefits until the renewal is finalized (up to 6 months after your expiration date).

I'm not doubting you... nor am I disputing the "official policy."
I'm just letting you know that my experience differs. Despite applying before the expiration date, I didn't have GE privileges when I entered the country after an international trip AND I lost my PreCheck privileges also.

And it's taken so long to get my GE renewal (like I said, I applied 3/14) that I was able to apply and receive TSA PreCheck in the interim (that only took 3 weeks)... so at least I have that for the domestic travel... although I do travel a fair amount internationally (thus wanting the GE :) )

Anyone have any context on the original question re: Escalation... how to do and what it does, whether it's worth doing?

You held Nexus and renewed GE. That's why your experience differs.

Has anyone gone to renew their GE with a trip to Iraqi Kurdistan listed? Looking to go this year, but weighing the impacts it may have on GE when I renew (granted that isn't for 4 years)...

After 11 weeks you can call the customer service #- they will escalate to try and find out what is causing the delay. (877) 227-5511 and follow the prompts. If you can call very early in the day there is a good chance your phone wait will not be long. Have your application ID# and your current Global Entry TT# handy.

In our case, my husband was approved in 7 days, for me it took 10 weeks and 6 days- we have identical travel histories. We also did not have to re-interview.

This is insane... I had forgotten about this, and I applied for Renewal 12 weeks and 2 days ago.

I have traveled throughout the world, but not to any risky countries.

I will call tomorrow and try to escalate.

Had my scheduled interview on 5/30 and was told for renewals they always just need new photo and fingerprints (didn’t believe it). Took all of two minutes, no questions about travel were asked. Officer stated emphatically to watch for two things: 1. Email to arrive within 48 hours showing approval. 2. Replacement card to arrive within 3-4 weeks.

The email never arrived but I did notice status went from pending to approved on the website immediately. Card arrived today only a week after interview.

It seems as though their email notification system isn’t working very well during all stages of the renewal. And yes, I checked to make sure they have the right email address and I check my spam folder often.

Glad I started the process at T-364 and already put it on the calendar for 2024. Good to go until then!
