That's an interesting data point. Do you think it could have anything to do with the signal the BB was getting at the time(s) you tried checking in to unlock it?

I tried with the BB on 3G and WiFi. I tried to fire up Google Maps First to ensure GPS was locked on my location. Eventually got it to work, but never on the first day of any of the four stays which led me to my conclusion. On the fourth stay I was able to get it unlocked on my WiFi iPad using he internet in the "small" WGS lounge seconds before being checked out by one of my favorite Starwood employees.

Based on my contact with Customer Care, they won't even consider investigating until 21 days have passed.

We (the Lurkers) are under that limitation as well. It is simply part of the internal workflow set up for following up on these.

Sorry for being lazy and not doing my homework ... but is the 250 check in bonus points per reservation? per night? or per stay?

So for example, a booking of mine is one reservation, one stay, four nights .... what's the total points I could get if I checked in daily.

So it goes...

After rocking out at 10 SPG properties, and successfully getting a 4SQ bonus/stay, I finally came across one that failed to post. W Chicago - City Centre. I checked-in, and then checked-in again, but it's been almost a week with no post. Hoping for better luck at Le Westin Montréal this weekend.

I will be watching closely though to see that I get 250 pts for each stay between now and the expiration since I always check in.

Only if you have it connected to those accounts. You can have it where it doesn't post anywhere if you choose, except on Foursquare.

You must FIRST check-in at the hotel and after that, you will be able to "check-in" at Foursquare @:-)

The order doesn't matter, as long as you check into Foursquare the same day you're staying there (and before you check out).

Were you able to unlock the bonus at that time?

Yes, it is not true.

"Checking into" a Foursquare location is mostly unrelated to "checking into" the hotel. There is no communications (sending of data) from Starwood for Foursquare; so Foursquare does not know if a Starwood customer has checked into a hotel or not. There is only data sharing from Foursquare to Starwood.

If you are in the same geographic area; you can "check in" to any Foursquare location, regardless of whether you have a reservation or not; and checking in will unlock the Special. This (daily batch) data is sent from Foursquare to Starwood. Starwood then takes the batch data from Foursquare and compares it against reservations, and if there is a match, they issue the 250 Starpoint credit.

If someone is having trouble "Unlocking a Special" the problem they are having is not related to their SPG account or reservation.
