SPG launches new social currency platform. Earn bonus Starpoints and more.

Dear members,

Let me share the following piece of exciting news with you.

SPG members can now connect their SPG and foursquare accounts and earn bonus Starpoints and more for foursquare check-in's. Here are some of the exciting things we have going on over the next few months:

- Between now and July 31, 2011, members who link their SPG and foursquare accounts will earn 250 bonus Starpoints for every foursquare check in with a confirmed reservation at any of our more than 1,000 Starwood hotels and resorts. There are no limits to the bonus Starpoints a member can earn during this promotion (and yes, it's combinable with SPG Getaway Free).

- Plus, for the month of May we are hiding Free Resort Night Awards daily throughout our hotels and resorts and members who check in via foursquare have an opportunity to unlock and win a free resort night.

- With each foursquare check in through July 31, you'll also be entered to win a resort getaway, including five Free Resort Night Awards plus airfare.

- Finally, each month SPG will declare the member with greatest number of foursquare check in's at any of our hotels and resorts as the new "SPG Mayor". In addition to bragging rights, your mayoral duties will include sharing your favorite insider travel tips and destination hotspots with fellow frequent travelers around the globe.

Go to spg.com/socialcheckins to get started in connecting your accounts and to spg.com/foursquare for a list of the current promotional details.

Come August there will be additional foursquare promotions that will vary during the year.

Since this is a new space that SPG has entered into, we of course look forward to any questions or feedback you may have. Do let us know.

Thank you.

So if I "check in" with foursquare, where does it post? Somewhere like Facebook or Twitter?

How can it show it sometimes when this just went live? Although the dates say 5/1, I have been checking into *W many times since then and this was not live. You must have tried to check in multiple times tonight: read the T&Cs -- you can only have 1 check in per 24 hours and must have a confirmed reservation.

I will be watching closely though to see that I get 250 pts for each stay between now and the expiration since I always check in.

Only if you have it connected to those accounts. You can have it where it doesn't post anywhere if you choose, except on Foursquare.

Umm .... never heard of foursquare - guess I need to check it out!

Okay so I went to the promo page and it says to check in with foursquare for each stay - but I have no idea how to do this, can someone please explain?

Thank you, I just put this thing on my phone and am creating an account right now. I'm looking forward to trying it out at my stays this weekend.

I just went through this myself. I recommend using the help link at the bottom of the Foursquare page - it was very helpful.

That's a timely 250 points for this evening then. It's time to dust off my Foursquare account and find a use for it again at last.

Tied in with the current promo, it should be a few thousand bonus points on top of existing reservations, so more than happy with that as they all help. Thanks ^

Okay - so I found out waht foursquare is and signed up for an account - now I can't figure out how to find out which hotels are participating in this promo and if I have my accounts linked properly to get the credit
12 stays coming up so it would be a nice bonus

Thumbs down Foursquare?

come on, please starwood, don't bother me with such "social media" b*s*!

you'd better concentrate on your core business instead of such things @:-)

i am not at all interested in facebook, twitter, foursquare and such things and i think it is contra productive for you if you support such things! that makes me rather book with other chains.
