Thank you for this. I have been starting, then stopping and re-starting a wiki - ad nauseum - for some time now, but distractions have prevented me from making much headway. Hopefully your work will inspire others to add and make amendments to the (very large) knowledge base that's been developed in this forum. Thanks again.

Awesome, thanks. Timely: I think I only just passed the post count required to edit a wiki post ;)

I've made the updates noted below. One question: is there an FAQ somewhere on how to manage a wiki post? It would obviously say things like "you need to have made X posts before being able to edit a wiki" but IMHO it would also be useful to have some loose conventions on things like "if you make meaningful changes to the wiki then mention that in the thread" plus it would be useful to know what happens if someone edits the wiki to remove something important if only so people know to be REALLY careful if it's not readily recoverable.

Updates made:
+ "Can I buy more segments" now reads "This is no longer permitted"
+ airline list updated and added dragonair as an affiliate
+ change fee updated from US$75 to US$125
+ Various wording tidy up without major changes
+ "Further Information" links updated
+ dropped "If you want to try to save some money by starting your *ONE* somewhere other than your home to take advantage of local pricing and currency rate differences, check the link to current pricing."

Potential further updates:
+ The question of how to save money by choosing where to start a *ONE* and/or what itinerary to pick feels like it's a discussion and thus is (or should be) another thread (possibly with it's own wiki) which should just be linked to rather than summary duplicated in this wiki. Certainly there are more useful things to say about saving fuel surcharges for example (I have a detailed post/analysis in draft)

+ Similarly, I'm sure there's a thread somewhere which aims to keep an answer to this question up to date:
Q: If I pony up the money for an A ticket, which routes still have "real" first class?

+ I left "Q: Have there been any problems with handwritten tickets?" in because I'm not sure if there are some bizarre circumstances in which you might somehow still get a hand written ticket. I think it's now impossible but am not 100% sure.

+ Pretty sure some affiliates listed are old and should be removed

+ If someone was nice they might improve the formatting further: I think I caught all the headings and made them bold but the Q & A letters being bold probably helps reading too.

You need 90 posts and 90 days of membership. :) I think this coud be relaxed to be honest.

I think you should just go for it! Your changes can be rolled back if needs be ;)

Many airlines no longer accept paper tickets (e.g., BA). Let alone hand written paper tickets!!

The only reason for paper tickets is that it defeats the restriction that you can only have four electronic tickets in a single electronic ticket booklet. Therefore paper conjunction tickets can have more than sixteen sectors. (A ticket can only hold four sectors including surface sectors, and there is only enough space in the conjunction ticket space to write out three other conjoined tickets)

Aha, I vaguely recall someone saying how they wound up with a paper ticket because of an involuntary routing change which turned a direct flight into an indirect flight: so presumably 17 segments.

My LONE4 in 2008 was booked as 16 segments. After issue, QF cancelled NRT-MEL, and I was rerouted NRT-SYD-MEL, making 17 segments. Ticket reissued to paper.

Yes you can fit five conjunction paper tickets in a paper ticket booklet (although you are not supposed to do this), but for electronic tickets this is impossible, ergo the 16 sector hard limit for e-tickets.

Now days, if you had BA sectors there, it would have created a big headache for your ticket issuer. ;)

BA now insists that a separate PNR is set up with its sectors ticketed electronically, separately from the paper ticket. Since you are trying to split your ticket into parts against the fare rules I guess this would have to be done by hand by revenue management!

That ticket did have BA sectors in it.
It was first booked as:
CBR-SYD-JFK/BWI-ORD/SEA-LHR-MAD-FCO-LHR-BKK-SIN-KIX-HND/NRT-MEL-CBR
Then QF canned NRT-MEL, and reissued as:
CBR-SYD-JFK/BWI-ORD/SEA-LHR-MAD-FCO-LHR-BKK-SIN-KIX-HND/NRT-SYD-MEL-CBR
Then after departing, the political situation in Thailand started to go downhill with the first round of riots. By the time I got to the MAD stop, several governments had issued travel warnings and a number of airlines had issued waivers. So QF changed the ticket for me (at no cost) to bypass the BKK stop and head right to SIN. The ticket was then reissued back to electronic with the remaining flights (MAD-FCO-LHR-SIN-KIX-HND/NRT-SYD-MEL-CBR). The agent said to retain the remaining paper coupons as they needed to be returned upon return to CBR. At the same time I did a flight (date/time) change with BA.
BA changed the QF32 flight over to the BA code (without permission), and when checking in for FCO-LHR-SIN with the new e-ticket, they still demanding the paper coupons.

Interesting! ^ However, I mean the situation has now (as of 2010?) changed to disallow paper tickets.

Hi,

Can someone tell me if this TAM flight (on SAA metal) between South Africa and Brazil can be used in either OW RTW fare? I've searched here and read the R&Rs of both tickets but can't find anything on the subject. Thanks!

Unfortunately not.

Only flights marketed and operated by oneworld carriers can be included in a oneworld Explorer ticket.

I've been planning an AONE4 to take advantage of the AA 2015 bonus promo, which can yield tons of miles. (I'll earn over 200K redeemable AAdvantage miles.) I just broke a bone in my foot and will be on crutches for approximately two months. I'll be using a wheelchair in airports. I think that the only time it could be a real problem is when I arrive and leave on the same aircraft.

Anyone here have any relevant experience?

Hope you make a speedy and full recovery Doc

But please tell - what has this got to do with the Oneworld Explorer Ticket FAQs?

Thanks!! Hospital said 6-8 weeks for splint and crutches. When else does one arrive and depart within an hour or two on the same aircraft to the city of origin? This happens to me all the time on xONEx tix. For example, on this one, I'll have DOH-CDG-DOH, DFW-ANC-DFW, NRT-CGK-NRT, etc.

It happens all over the shop, on the British Airways forum we have several threads dedicated to it because one can often save thousands of pounds by starting an F/J journey in Dublin or Brussels instead of London.

Unfortunately, CDG has the distinction of being the only airport to be rated as "hopeless". Of course for a long haul arrival it might be easier.

So from a BA perspective, see here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...ing-guide.html and http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...tinations.html

One of our regulars is blind, and so he usually requests assistance at airports he is unfamiliar with. I know he has got the staff at BRU to help him with a back-to-back---this involves going through some special transfer channel that is normally closed to arrivals from London, unless you press a door bell and wait for a guy to come and unlock the door for you!

So to be honest, if you tell them in advance what you want and you are insistent about it, they will probably help you 9/10. If anyone asks, "it was cheaper" normally explains everything. :)
