Some questions re OW RTW Planning site, etc

10 years ago did Rtw 21flights in 42 days (not hard if via DFW)
Am planning next trip soon , which involves direct London City- Granada (Spain )return in the middle of a 5 week trip ex oz with surface sections.
(ADL/MEB/LAX/MIA ----surface(cruise/tour) Oporto/LHR/LCY/Granada-return, LGW/DBX/ADL
1) Darn website will not show the BA City Flyer (fully owned subsidiary of BA) as an option - only transfers via some quite creative cities. If I put one in to get a fare, it comes up as too many segments.
UGGGGH

My last RWT lost my luggage (overnight) twice;
I am concerned if chance of losing luggage with arriving Lax. 3.5 hour layover to do immig, change airlines etc for Miami. If my luggage is lost it's a long wait to Bermuda first cruise stop.
Would be most grateful for advice. TIA.

Hello and welcome to Flyertalk CaseWeight and thanks for coming to the oneworld forum.

LCY-GRX is a relatively new (not that new) route for BA*CJ. I think it was started in September---I might be mistaken. Possibly that's why it doesn't show up in the itinerary planner.

The other problem is that LHR//LCY counts as a sector on your eticket. This may push you over the limit. Can you do OPO-MAD-GRX instead?

Similarly I didn't even know there was a oneworld carrier doing LGW-DXB!

There isn't. There are 5 oneworld flights/day LHR-DXB (3 BA, 2 QF). QF codeshares on the EK LON-DXB flights, but you can't use those on a oneworld ticket.

Can I ask for the best value AONEX suggestions in terms of origin and maximising F sectors.

Also, does anyone have the ex SYD and ex-AKL pricing please?

Thanks,

Marcus.

Anyone know if they actually enforce the 10 day advance purchase requirement? On one hand, I get that it's a published rule; but OTOH, if they have seats which are going out empty....

Why would they break their own fare rules when the alternative is to collect a higher regular fare?

It's been a while since I looked at that section of the rules, but isn't it 10 days for ex North America and 3 days for elsewhere?

You're right, Himeno, nothing like looking in the rules.

Rule 5(a). If reservations made seven days or fewer before departure, ticketing must be complete 24 hours after booking, but no later than one hour before departure.

That ten day thing must have been from years past.

Sorry to be absent - -Faulty modem then heatwave here in Adelaide.
You are correct that I can't fly one world LGW DBX ADE, it's Emirates(business) that I was hoping to try for my last Sortie.... like trying to beat Cathay on my first trip. Mebbe I'll cave in and just come QF alllll the way home and pass the points to my son
If flying BA from Oporto /LHR, stay with family, then fly LCY/GRX return
makes too many sectors, then I might have a separate side ticket.
Now I am scheming how to do carry on only for 6 weeks - with formals for Crystal T/A cruise. QF gives me 2 x 7kg bags, but my 3 intra Europe flights are BA with one bag cabin 51lb. There might be storage at LCY.?
.
The scheming never ends.
Anyhoo, thanks for your input.

No storage at LCY (that I've ever seen). It's not that kind of airport. They won't even store checked bags overnight. ;)

BA is relatively relaxed about cabin bags, especially for J pax, and they never weigh them. You can take two bags (one real bag and one smaller item). However on CityFlyer there is limited overhead space.

Just be prepared to check a bag on one or two sectors—is it really that much of a problem?

The first post FAQ states

Q: Can I buy more segments?
A: Yes, you can buy up to two more segments per continent, other than the continent of origin, at varying prices depending on the class in which you are booked. You cannot, however, have more than 16 segments in total.
That's no longer true, right?

Would it make sense to move that FAQ post up into a wiki item on the thread so it's not down to one person to maintain it?

Excellent idea. ^ ^

I have created a wiki and copied the information from eamus's first two posts into it.

Please go ahead and edit incorrect information, adjust formatting or whatever else you think should be changed.
