Another welcome to Sky.is.the.limit. These RTW tickets are a very specialized market that sometimes don't follow ticketing rules that many agents are familiar with. These terms and conditions are listed in the GDS and on the OW website. Many of the objections that you note just do not apply as proven by many who has used these tickets during the last 15 years.

Sky.is.the.limit, thanks for your answer. I hope you feel we are not ganging up on you, believe me we always like industry experts to chime in. :) The only reason we find your answer a bit difficult to believe is that, between us, we buy many of these tickets every year and we are largely speaking from our own experiences. :)

those countries have to be within the same sub-region and that’s not the case here (EG is Africa – JO is middle east).

Whether or not that is true geographically (and I won't get into that debate :D) the oneworld explorer fares define Egypt to be in the Middle East:

Code:

CONTINENTS ARE DEFINED AS -
    -EUROPE/MIDDLE EAST
WHICH CONSISTS OF 2 ZONES 1.EUROPE INCLUDES
ALGERIA/MOROCCO/RUSSIA WEST OF THE URALS AND
    TUNISIA.
    MIDDLE EAST INCLUDES EGYPT/ LIBYA/SUDAN
    -AFRICA
      WHICH TOGETHER SHALL COMPRISE TC2

This comes from the Rule Application category in the fare rules.

Someone reported that QF did have some confusion about this the other day, so maybe the ticketing agent was thinking along the same lines as you.

The provision you are referring to (assuming the ones on the first page of the fare sheet) only stands for the counting of stopovers, not for the O and D.
I'm not really sure what you mean.

Re the plating carrier, you’re right all the carriers listed on the fare sheet can potentially issue such fares but it depends on the itinerary as well. If I trust the below rule from the ATPCO, in this specific routing the ticket will have to be on a QR stock
ATPCO validating carrier selection logic:
Round the world
If the itinerary crosses between Traffic Conference (TC) 3 and TC2 and between TC2 and TC1, then the selected validating carrier is the carrier from the first sector that crosses between TC2 and TC1.
I agree that would be the selected validating carrier. But an agent can choose a different validating carrier from the selected one if they like, subject to the usual conditions. And moreover if you ticket directly with an airline sales desk, they always put it on their own stock.

Booking agent needed

Thank you everyone for clarifying on the stops...

On another note, I would like to get suggestions on where the booking can be done...I checked with local travel agent in Thailand but nobody has ever booked a RTW ticket nor do the carrier (QR and RJ office in thailand. They said they need a week to get back to me). I thought of BA but they do not have office in Thailand. Anyone can recommend a travel agency or a point of sale?

Secondly, do I understand correctly that the ticket is valid for 1 year from first flight? If yes, can I book for first flight something like Nov 2017? Also, how much of the itinerary has to be confirmed? Do I need to provide all the flights and date? or just specify the stop to the agency?

Thanks for all the help everyone and if someone can share with me a travel agent who can book this, I will be indebted.

Thanks again.

I don't know any TAs in Thailand - but I suggest you try phoning Qantas, say you want the ex-Egypt price converted to THB and you want to pay in Thailand. QF seems to do things quite efficiently.

In theory:
  • Reservations for the first international flight and all preceding flights must be made prior to departure. Subsequent segments may be open-dated.
  • The first flight can be one year from the ticketing date
  • And the last flight can be one year from the first flight

In practice, due to the (lack of) capabilities in the electronic booking systems:
  • Reservations are required for all flights in the itinerary
  • The last flight cannot be further out than 355 days from the ticketing date

Right. Although -- just to spell it out for the benefit of those who don't know -- what we do in practice is either (a) book a minimal itinerary with the starting date pushed as far out as possible, and then pay the $125 fee to flesh it out with the additional sectors when the time is right or (b) book the full itinerary but with dummy dates for those sectors too far out at the time of booking, and then correct the dates for free when they come within range.

This is all the oneworld product tickets I've taken to date, with the fare type, routing and ticketing carrier.

Issued via local travel agent now that 'country of sale vs country of origin' pricing rule removed. agent sent to QR automatically.

In almost all cases, I've selected which airline issued the tickets by either going to that airline or messing around with the tool to trigger issue by the selected airline.

Not entirely true. Airlines do remember past rates, they use them too.

Generally:
Pre-travel, today's rate is used.
Mid-travel, the historical rate is used, in the same way that historical fares are.

The GDSs have access to historic exchange rates going back 12 months.

Trying to ticket an ex-CAI ticket and getting frustrated with the issuing carriers. Tried to BA on the phone last Thursday and they still have yet to be able to price the itinerary! Called QF on Sunday and in a wonderful 1 hour conversation we were able to put the itinerary together and price it. However, it is for a DONE5 that has a base fare of approx. US$3000 and was quoted a fare of approx. US$4300 which I thought was quite high considering I had no BA flights and only one QF long-haul flight. Further, since BA was busy screwing around with my itinerary QF could not hold it for me unless I purchased it immediately so I said no thanks. Any suggestions? I have not tried QR yet, as anyone had a good experience with them?

My itinerary includes QR, QF, CX, JL, AA, AY, AB, and RJ

Qantas seems to be off with ther tax calculation. I priced one last week with a base fare of AUD3800 and the added $1400 in taxes. Only one QF flight and none with BA. Qantas does seem t allow at least a 24 hour hold on this product. Last week I was offered four days.

I know AA isn't currently selling ex-CAI but perhaps they would at least set one up, maybe allowing you to call another airline for pricing. Even if you then couldn't get another carrier to ticket it, AA could at least give you a breakdown of taxes that you could use to query QF with.

Reports from people who have talked directly with QR agents about RTW products have not been good. QR reps don't appear to have any idea what these fares are.

Have you tried talking to CX?

No. Any special number or just general reservations? How are they about collecting YQ for other airlines?

General contacts available for different countries on CX website. I've mainly dealt with their Tokyo office over email. Some CX offices have emails for reservations, others just for baggage services. Such contacts are on their website.

Hi there, Ive been following this thread for a bit

Thanks in advance all! :)

Mmm
I've just used ExpertFlyer to check which OW airlines currently have published OWE fares out of CAI.
Prior to the devalation of the EGP, all OW airlines had published fares out of CAI
(I checked this by entering a ticketing date of 1-Nov-2016 in EF)

These airlines do have published fares:
BA IB MH QF QR RJ UL
And these no longer have published fares:
AA AB AY CX JL LA/JJ S7
