trying to book LONEX, found a very odd situation, when europe is included the price of ticket almost doubles, can experts advise why this is happening.
2 different LONE given with tax break up. below. jnb-hkg-del-tyo-hnl-lax-CHI-las-dca-SLC-MIA-LIM-SCL-EZE-GRU-JNB tax cost 8360 ZAR 2nd JNB-MAD-HEL-DXB-SYD-AKL-HKG-CMB-TYO-LAS-MIA-LIM-SCL-BUE-SAO-JNB, TAX COST 28,000 zar MAINLY due to MULTIPLE CARRIERE SURCHAGE 5000 ZAR, AND CARRIER SURCHAGE 14000 ZAR, CAN somebody help in understanding the difference, i prefer the 2nd on so i can break the RTW twice in between so i can space out over 1 year .... is this because there are 7 carriers in 2nd LONE where as only 4 in first does this affect pricing? |

But the choice of carrier (some charge and some do not) and the choice of first carrier (some collect surcharges for other carriers, some do not) will affect the total carrier surcharges. The difference is dramatic in your cases, which to me implies that CX (the first carrier in your 2nd itinerary) is more zealous in collecting surcharges for other carriers than is IB (the first carrier in your 1st itinerary) Also, your 1st itinerary has six intra-USA flights, which do not have surcharges, while your 2nd itinerary has more inter-continental flights, which generally do have surcharges (and sometimes quite hefty surcharges) Finally, your first itinerary is a LONE4 (four continents - Africa-Asia-Nth America-Sth America) while your 2nd itinerary is a LONE6 (Africa-Europe/Middle East-South West Pacific-Asia-Nth America-Sth America) That increases the base fare by ZAR9,000 |
hello pandaperth, t
hanks for the reply, i tried multiple itinaries, somehow the carrier charges increase only when Europe is included , i have seen upto LONE5 also if Europe is not included carrier charges do not go beyond 10000 ZAR but add any European city and the charges just triple.. still very confused what is so critical about European inclusion. |
also just to clarify I have only given the tax part of the total cost,
total cost excluding the surcharge is not hugely different in both itinaries somehow.... |

The additional continents will also add to the taxes/fees total, not to mention the base price. |
go to syd via hkg using cx should save you money.
europe to hk to syd on cx. then you only pay yq on jnb mad. if u have to do dxb, you will need to pay yq to dxb as well. cx is now charging a small yq for trips starting outside of hkg but it is still small. |
Hi, can anyone help please, I am trying to price up an itinerary on the OW site, but keep getting an error - 300: Due to traffic restrictions on this flight you must be booked on the operating carrier.
I've tried changing the cities, dates and carriers, but the error persists. |

I have in the past gotten the error when trying to select a codeshare instead of the operating carrier. If you saw the error when at the select flights stage, simply try a flight marketed by the operating airline.
