Thanks!
Some people do an ING-type account direct deposit.

Thanks tkey! So people are still getting DD credit through ING? Thought I read a post earlier this year, maybe late 2009, saying chase smartened up and no longer considers ING direct deposits as valid?

Hmm. I may be wrong about that. I don't keep up with this thread so much. I just knew people were doing it. How about a DD from an investment account? Only needs to be a buck or so a month.

Today I tried to open one online (closed all my chase checking on 9/10 just in case). I can enter the code online but cannot fund with ach and don't want to risk cash advance by using credit card funding.

So I printed out the physical coupon and went to the local branch. The banker was very nice but the system doesn't allow him to process me since it treat me as a exiting customer. The banker even called support and his manager trying to help me.

In the end, it didn't work out at branch due to system issue and even the banker agreed with me that I am not existing customer. I guess I will try online again tomorrow with my WellsFargo debit card for funding. I did see 15K reward at one point just before the funding page so I guess I am qualified for 15K (had $125 deal early and may lost 10k bonus in this case).

Chase has system issue since Monday evening. The outage lasted thru the whole Tuesday and it has been on and off today. They finally said it was due to a 3rd party data base that has corrupted the system and the recovery process takes a very long time...

We were planning to go to the branch yesterday and then found out the online outage so decided to wait till the system being fixed. Today the system was still down in the morning and up / down many times in the afternoon.

It may be because of this, you are still being treated as existing customer by the system as now the data base is reloaded from days before...

Thanks for the reminding!

I know chase.com was down for >24 hrs so went to branch after .com is back up. The problem is at the branch the system won't allow banker to use the coupon code (got an existing account error) and at home I don't have a debit card with enough money (at least not till tomorrow since I just repump my wellsfargo account last night, haha) to fund it online myself. Online did take my coupon and showed 15k bonus.

The banker was super nice and called internal support for help. Was told that they treat account within 90 days as "existing". I guess that's just BS from 800 since online did take my coupon and showed 15k bonus. He even called his manager and call me at home afterward offering to push through somehow. I guess that's because I opened Chase Biz account for CO this weekend, haha... I was told since I have biz account now I should have some perks on personal side (something like premium account free).

Seriously, he was very nice and I do want to him to get his bonus if there is a way. Does anyone know? I just recall frugaltravelguy mentioned this banker bonus somewhere on his blog but don't recall the details. Who knows what good banker relationship will bring you down the road. Never burn a bridge unless you have to.

Just one data point. I opened a business account last month. We tried to fund with a chase credit card, but the banker told us it would generate a cash advance fee. I opened a personal account only last week and funded it with a chase credit card and it went through without a fee and it appears to be coded as a purchase. I won't know until the statement closes whether it gets miles, though.

Edit: Scratch that. I WAS charged a cash advance fee on the deposit to the personal account. Just saw it on the account today. Grrr. There should have been a warning.

That's why I will use a real debit card (bank check card) in this case.

Obviously, chase is doing same thing like it's casino atm cash advance.

Open personal 25k with WellsFargo Debit VISA Check Card, works like a charm. I won't get all 25k since I got $125 earlier this year but print 15k rewards confirmation along with the signature card in the end.

Their commission / bonus will only materialize if the accounts opened by them remain open for 6 months at least.

The CO debit card for the business account is $65. It better offers some perks for that annual fee. Granted, it is still cheap at 0.0043 per mile cost even if you only get 15K. For those who have immediate need for miles this is a reasonable deal.

I say BS, unless something has changed. I closed my personal account last Dec 30, opened a new one less than two weeks later.

I also opened a business account that December. I will close it this week and open a new one by the end of the month. I don't know why I left it open for so long. Maybe just to be sure.

Is there anyone here that has opened their account recently online or at the branch, who did NOT have an account already with Chase? If so, did you actually get a paper showing 25K bonus? I have heard Chase changed some of their rewards systems, and maybe it is only showing the 15K for the debit card, but the 10K for the account just isn't listing on there. Thanks.

I only got 15k printout online since I got $125 earlier this year. I did close all my personal Chase account 5 days before opening new one.

Your data was in Dec. Before you call it BS, may be you would spend some moment reading posts upthread - several posters have reported similar experiences at the branch.

Let us know what your new data point is when you go do your biz account since that one cannot be opened online.

BTW, the coupon language remains unclear on the "lead-in" big print - my branch manager questioned about whether without direct deposit would qualify and almost refused to open accounts for us, despite the personal banker had called in the Marketing Dept to clarify. Marketing Dept told her they got a few phone calls from the branches to question the language, but not to worry, the print out after account opening would have CORRECT requirements.

I pointed the fine print on the coupon to the stupid branch manager (had to call her stupid because she was not able to find the coupon despite me giving her DETAILED instruction how to look for it on Continental.com!) read the coupon for at least 5 minutes and then reluctantly allowed the personal banker to proceed the account opening!

The branch manager still was having a power trip but the personal banker told her the Marketing Dept said there was no way to see other language UNTIL after account opened and documents printed out - it would be on the Receipts which also bear the tracking numbers.

Sure enough, 2 receipts spit out with very clear wordings to say Direct Deposit OR 5 Debit no PIN transactions would qualify.

Then the branch manager tried to cover up her stupidity by saying to me, "I dont want you to be disappointed if you do not qualify because no direct deposit." Personal banker was great at that point, she said, "They have done their homework and know what they are doing." This shut her stupid manager up. This comment from the Personal Banker made the earlier irritation go away. I started to feel I can give her more business in the future!

I got a sense that this branch manager (an older lady) is not too popular among her underlings.
