I read this thread a few months ago and got the idea that this is a targeted offer and I gave up then. It seems anyone can apply now if they give the code. Is there a post sum up the whole idea of this offer? Can anybody help me here? thanks,

Transfer point from AMEX to Delta in MAY
I wanted to share this here.
I received the 75K points in May, and transfer them to Delta during 50% bonus miles and elite level.
But I paid $45 offset fee for transfer the points to Delta miles.
I am planning to transfer more points today, and notice that is no offset fees this time.
Then I emailed AMEX Reward through secure messages, and wonder I could get the $45 refund. Within 2 hours, got response regarding the $45 will be credited to my account in next billing cycle.
If you paid the offset fees in past months.. you may want to try secure message to get the money back.

Deal is still active. I received my card yesterday after being approved about 10 days ago, called membership rewards, and they added the 5985 code to my account. $1000 spend in three months for 75k points. Thanks FT!

metoo- I'm going to apply for the AmEx Platinum in about three weeks to try to do precisely that. Also, my understanding is that if they won't bump the bonus and I cancel the card, the $450 annual fee will be prorated so I won't actually end up out $450.

This is my case, it may help or it may not 
Got Amex Personal Premier on October 2010, 25k MR after spend some $$$, I saw this post last month and I sent a SM, I told them that I was disappointed for he promotion that I got and they gave me 50k MR as a courtesy :bounce:
On July 9 I applied for Amex Business, on July 11 I got the confirmation and I receive the card on July 12/13. Few days later I sent 6 or 7 SM asking for 6608 (100k after 2k spend), was declined each time
On July 27 they closed my statement (2.3k), I paid on 28 and I finally called them (7/29), got a nice lady and I asked if they could add promo ID 6608, she said "sure, let me check", she added and told me that I have to wait 4-6 weeks. Few hours later I sent SM asking if they can expedited the points before 7/31, 7hs later I got a positive response with 100k.
I got a total of 182k MR (75+100+7k spend), I transferred to my BA account for a total of 273k BA miles + 107k that already had (100k from BA Chase + 7k spend), my total is 380k BA miles, enough for some RT to Asia and South America (with a lot of stopover) and I can mix some connection with my AA miles*.

* US-IPC(Easter Island) is 20k each way with BA (South America zone), but IPC on AA is South Pacific zone, so you can use some AA miles from IPC to SYD, AKL, PPT, Fiji for 20k each way

Thought I'd share to clear up some stuff.
Applied yesterday for Gold Premier Rewards card, was instantly approved. Send a SM regarding 75k bump. Just got a message that they will honor the code. So it still works!

I applied for and was instantly approved for a PR Gold Card last night but am not having any luck getting the 5985 promo through Amex Secure Messaging (from an existing account).
Is there a magic word or phrase that will get the promo approved and the 75k offer? I'd hate to have only 10k points on this one...

Applied for my husband on 7/30. Approved instantly. Sent a secure message (from his Costco Amex account) on 7/31 quoting offer number 5985. Got a reply saying the account has been noted for the better offer of 75000. I used a letter quoted in one of the earlier posts as a basic template.

I applied for the personal gold premier account today. When I get the card, I plan to call them and provide them with offer code 5985
I don't have n Amex membership rewards account. Would I have to sign up for it separately or they'll automatically create one?
