Here was the link I used - the front screen still shows as 50K points when I open it now:

https://www304.americanexpress.com/p...319-0/0/0/0/n/

Now, I'm not sure if I got it from frugal travel guy, points guy or dansdeals' websites or scraped it from one of the threads here.

  • Instant approval on both cards.
  • Only a single credit pull on Experian for both apps (think that is Experian's doing instead of Amex's).
  • Secure mail to ask them to bump the bonus on the gold card (to 75K points) was successful referencing 5894.
  • They did ask that I email them once I'd hit the $500 spend threshold and they would manually add the remaining points.
  • Still have not received or activated either card.
What did you say in your secure message? I saw another in this thread, but I'm in the same position you were in (June 30 app, July 1 approval) so I'd love to see what you sent them. Thanks!

I plagiarized the text in LIMUgtr's post #686 in this thread. I changed a few words to fit my scenario since I am not a new Amex cardholder.

Many thanks LIMUgtr

OK, another data point. Received a targeted offer for 50K MR points after purchases of $500. Applied yesterday and was approved instantly. Sent a secure message to Amex referencing Bonus ID 5985. Received a reply today that I am eligible to be bumped to 75K. Was told to e-mail Amex once I have met my spending threshold so they can credit my account with additional 25K bonus points. So this offer still alive. Again, I applied on July 7th.

Is this a new code? Or it is a typo? Because the 75K ID used to be 5894.

From what I remember, the spending threshold for 5985 was $1000 within 3 months, which is slightly more than your targeted offer, but you may want to confirm.

Where do you see the "earn" or "pending" points?

I totally forgot about sending reply back after $500 spent on July 5th. Now the spend actually is just short of $2K. But there is no point anywhere I can see, though statement is not close probably for another 10-15 days.

I haven't paid the balance yet but sent a reply nonetheless to see what they will say.

When I call MR (800-297-3276) and put in my card number it tells me the number of pending points (currently 10K).

No first-year fee free on any of the platinum card offers, right?

one denial post July 1

My partner applied for the 10k offer yesterday, was instantly approved and sent a request via SPG. Request was denied (see below), but there is no mention of it being because the offer expired (5894). See below:

I can appreciate your interest in the offer associated with the Premier Rewards Gold Card and will be glad to go over this with you.

Regrettably we are unable to extend the offer to you as this offer is only for solicited non-Cardmembers. Please understand that not all offers can be honored for all Cardholders as they may have applicable terms and conditions that do not apply as such.

I understand that this may be disappointing to you; however, you can expect to see various promotions throughout the year for which you may be eligible. Our intent is to provide offers that will appeal to various interests and different types of people.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to assisting you in the future.
Sincerely, Xxxx Xxxxxxx Account Manager Email Servicing Team - Fort Lauderdale

My wife got a targeted offer for 75K points (for which she was approved before July 1) and the back of her invitation letter noted Bonus ID 5985. That is what I told Amex when I sent them a secure message. Her offer did indeed note that she needed to spend $1000 in the first three months but the reply I received from Amex acknowledged that I only needed to spend $500 in the first three months of being a card member and that the remaining 25K points would be credited to my account once I (1) reach the $500 spending threshold and (2) contact Amex via the secure e-mail to let them know to apply it to my account. I would be happy to post the e-mail I sent and the reply I received if anyone is interested.

I got something similar. Called, same deal, called again, got the promo applied. So don't give up.

I received 75K MR offer for Business Gold Rewards Card today. To earn your welcome bonus, spend $2000 before 11/15/11 and no annual fee($125 value) for 1st year. And, you can earn additional 25K bonus points each year when you spend $50K.

Offer expires Aug 16, 2011.

This is the same canned response my wife received when she applied for her PR gold rewards card using the Columbia MBA link. It took the 5th or 6th try for them to apply the bonus in that case. Keep trying, delete the rejection emails from your inbox and send a fresh secure mail each time you need to. Unfortunately, Amex's 10 hr response SLA (which they have been nowhere close to hitting for me recently) drags this process out.
