This thread refers to the various Marriott brands within a specific geographic area. Marriott Bonvoy hotels in XX usually have posts asking which property is better, etc. Trip reports are usually better suited in the property specific threads.

San Francisco 5 nights with wife and Gold Status?
I'll be in SF for 5 nights next summer 2019 with my wife. Very touristy trip. We have 200K points and are looking to do a 5th night free redemption. Also am gold status with Amex Plat. What would you do? Free breakfast with Gold would be a top priority. Mostly just looking for the best overall experience that 200K can get.

Two things have to happen:
(1) You're going to need Marriott Platinum in the post-merger world. If you have earned Gold this year via hotel stays, then you are Platinum in the post-merger world. If you only have it via the Amex Platinum, then you aren't automatically Platinum in the new world, although it's possible that Amex and Marriott will reach an agreement to update that CC's benefits to include Platinum in the future. Marriott has stated that, for now, you don't automatically get it.
(2) You need to pick a hotel that doesn't opt-out of elite benefits on the weekends. As of today, I *think* only the JW Marriott Union Square is on this list (among SF hotels). But this list has grown, and hotels in cities like Chicago, NYC, and SF are prime targets to get added. I'm just guessing that your five-nighter includes two weekend nights. (I believe this page includes the latest list of opt-out hotels. Scroll down a bit or search on Union Square.) Hard to tell whether heritage-Starwood hotels will get added to this list - or if Marriott will go the other way and make these hotels honor elite benefits after the merger.
If you don't have other paths to post-merger Plat, then a new Ritz or Marriott credit card might be in your future. Sign-up bonuses should mitigate first-year sign-up bonus sting. Then you can decide whether the card is useful to you beyond that.

Isn't 75K spend required for Platinum on those cards though?
