Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Just got off the phone with Marriot UK, got a p830 and p870 converted to the equivalent new category. Call took about 13 minutes, the agent that answered the phone didn't seem like she had much of an idea but talked to her supervisor who made everything happen pretty quickly including the year extension.

So why give a chance of that possibility? It is much better to detach the cert from the reservation first - margarita girl has a post just some days ago to explain how to do the detachment online yourself by going thru the modify reservation process - change the payment method from cert to something else - then after the cert is safely returned to the account, you can cancel the reservation without worrying if the IT would mess it up.

When that happens, it is an extremely time consuming and very frustrating process to get it fixed.

Calls in the morning like between 8 to 11am the US agents are reasonably competent.
I understand people sometimes have the need or rather, the urge, to call whenever they think about something they want to get done - but calling on a Friday night or weekend, you are really asking for trouble because you most likely would be dealing with B or C team.
True, we the customers should not have to plan WHEN to get a competent agent to handle normal stuff - but this mess has been going for SOOOOO LONG, why people still do not practice some self-defense, simply to make their lives easier when dealing with Bonvoy?

Ah, that makes much more sense. Though I have read about the NC also got lost because sometimes the system at the hotel level would not release the cert - but that was a few months ago when I read about this. Though it is much easier for the CS reps to locate the NCs that are "lost" and hopefully this glitch has since been fixed.

Please note that this reservation may not be modified online. To modify it, call 1-877-739-2737 toll-free in the USA and Canada, or one of our worldwide reservation telephone numbers.

I want to cancel a TC reservation and use the TC on another reservation. But I do not know how to detach online. When I tried to follow the above (colored fonts) I got the following:

So the resolution "team" called and left a message I HAD TOLD THEM ONLY TO CONTACT ME BY EMAIL and my voice message says I'm out of the country and won't get messages.
After another hour on the phone it turns out they just randomly looked at my last cert stays - said the certs had been used AND DON'T DO ANY MATCHING TO SEE IF THERE ARE OTHER CERTS.
In my case the 2 that had been used would have expired months ago, but they were telling me the ones that had NOT EXPIRED were already used (but cancelled them and put points in my account for them) - nobody seemed to be able to put together that points would not have been put back in my account if the cert had been used.
So after hours on the phone including a denial and closing the case (which I had reopened) I finally got my cert back BUT lost two weeks of use b/c they converted one I hadn't planned to convert yet, many hours wasted.
I didn't call the UK originally b/c I wasn't trying to upconvert just a "simple" old to new conversion - what a mistake!!!!!
Oh and the "resolution team" who said I had used the certs - until I had the case reopened and finally talked to them - when I asked for compensation said "you mean for an honest mistake?" Yes denying me 14 hotel nights b/c you can't/don't bother to look at you system properly and cost me hours of time is certainly NOT AN HONEST MISTAKE!!!!!!

Called to convert old cert to new
1) Agent told me it had already been converted and USED therefore he could not complete the transaction, asked to speak to a supervisor "I am the one in charge tonight" (called back later after I got email and got a great agent (who was a supervisor) so clearly he was lying about this as well)
2) Told him I had 4 certs, 2 were used and 2 unused and NOT TO TOUCH THE ONE EXPIRING IN 2 WEEKS
3) Said he couldn't do anything except open a case
4) I get an email that 2 certs were CANCELLED and points show for them in my account (clearly they weren't "used" )
5) No one has authority to correct this directly that I can speak to - have to wait days for them to respond - great system that allows for more misunderstanding at every level (like the game telephone)
6) This agent alone means I will book hundreds to thousands of dollars of stays NOT AT BONVOY
7) Lifetime titanium - I have to spend hours on phone b/c incompetent agent wouldn't let me give him the codes and took actions I expressly told him not to do (touch the cert that wasn't expiring), lied to me rather than just saying I don't know or call back during the day (call was late night)
Rant over

Trying to book a 7 night res for the lowest room type available at a residence inn. It is available on cash for my dates but on points only showing 6 of 7 nights open.
Can I book the following week and then call the hotel to adjust dates even though no award availability on the new night?
Please let me know if this may work.

Is it possible to get an OC6 to convert to NC5? I talked to Marriott for a while today but they had to put in a case to get it solved. Anything else I should do?

Transfer cert or reservation?
My wife is Gold and I'm Plat. We'll use the 7-night cert under her account. I understand hotels have the discretion to award elite benefits to me if I present my card.
However, I'd also like to get the elite night credits. Is there any way to redeem my wife's cert and transfer the reservation to my MR account?

Sequence of events:
1. I have a reservation with attached 7-night NC4 cert booked long time ago.
2. My travel plan changed so about a few days ago I booked a 7-night cat.4 in a different hotel and different days on point stay. I only had 82K points not enough for the stay, I intended to cancel the old one above and use its NC4 cert..
3. Today I called to detach the NC4 and cancel the old reservation. But I found the new reservation has been fully paid by enough points (125K)!
4. My activity log shows that 43K points was purchased with my registered credit card, So Marriott, without my authorization or knowledge, used my CC to purchase the points to cover my reservation.
I have no intention to purchase Marriott points at regular rate, What recourse do I have?

So, I thought I remembered what to do when I converted / downgraded. I should have re-read the wiki... looks like they f-d it up. I'm converted / downgraded to a cat 1-5, but no 30K points. Sigh. Something tells me this isn't going to be easy to fix. Thoughts / commiseration invited.
[12 hours later] Well, looks like they didn't screw it up after all. I've got my new package, expiring a year from today, and another 30K points. It is unfortunate that I can't upgrade one category, but overall I'm still stoked at the package. Was able to do a United package when they had a 20K bonus for transfers, so ended up with 152K united miles (my wife got the CP). I'm not a fan of Marriott stays, having to pay for resort fees really annoys me, but getting travel packages post merger has certainly been one of the best deals we've ever had... and I say that even before we stay in the hotels!

[QUOTE=bluestrudels;30828764]Update Everyone: For those that are holding the converted NC certs, I called in today and a very pleasant legacy SPG rep informed me that all certs gets another 1 year extension each.
He clarified this and confirmed with his supervisor, he then proceeded to cancel the cert and order an attached e-cert to apply on my reservation.
He mentioned in future if anyone gets an legacy SPG rep, just mention to use the IMS system. It's the only system that the agent can manually modify or attached travel certs on their end.
I also called using the contact number via the app on my profile page, no wait time, the number immediately linked me to the "Titianium Elite" Line, whatever that means.
So I would encourage folks with elite status to contact through this method to get a more competent rep than the general line.
So happy to see this in my account now and knowing that my other 2 certs will get to have another extension into Sep 2020 next year!
[B]
Can anyone confirm this is still current policy? I have spent a lot of time reading through these pages but haven't seen a lot of discussion about what's possible with the NC certificates other than they can no longer be upgraded (correct?). But they can simply be extended another year? I have two coming up for expiration in September that we can't use, so that would be awesome. One thing I found confusing in this explanation was the comment "he then proceeded to cancel the cert and order an attached e-cert to apply on my reservation" - does this only work if attached to a reservation first? Sorry if these are dumb questions.
