Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2018)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
When converting your legacy certificate to a new certificate your prior certificate is cancelled and your new certificate will (in most cases) have an expiration date that is 12 months from the date of issuance (today).
The codes for the New Category partial packages are:
5-night packages
NCx = new certificate category
QPxx = post-merger converted partial package
OCx = old certificate category
QLxx = post-merger converted partial package (only QL known so far is QL87 for NC7)
xx0T = initial package;
Pxx0 = partial package;

(Also, never use the word UPGRADE. You must say you want to CONVERT your certs.)
IMPORTANT! Possible Points Advance Implications of March 5 category changes: There’s a (potential) issue with the category changes and Points Advance reservations. Marriott included the following information when they emailed some of us about the upcoming changes: “Points Advance — Members who wish to book a points advance redemption under the current Marriott Rewards and SPG award chart are encouraged to order redemption certificates before March 5 to lock in the rate. On March 5, redemption bookings are subject to the new unified program award chart.” We’ve reached out to Marriott to confirm the practical implications of this verbiage, as it sounds like Points Advance reservations will revert to the new pricing if they don’t have certificates attached prior to March 5. To be on the safe side, if your hotel is increasing in category be sure your TP certificate is attached to the reservation before March 5.
Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:

New data point for the new year.
I've read/followed the majority of this thread and now that I have a plan for how to use the travel certificates I made it happen
Last July, I purchased two OC1-5 travel packages. I have an upcoming trip that I wanted to use the certificates to book two rooms at an NC5 hotel.
1) Verified that I had an extra 120,000 MR points in my account (2x60,000 to upgrade from NC4 to NC5)
2) Call the UK Marriott # in the wiki (+44 20 7012 7312). In total, the call took about 25 minutes.
3) Explain that I have a booking I wanted to make, and I wanted to Cancel my two 830T certificates and convert them to two QP91 certificates. I did need to be clear with the rep that I was going to be using additional points from my account to upgrade the certificate.
Canceling two 830T (OC1-5) added 90,000 points (2x45000) to my account
Ordering two QP91 (NC5) subtracted 210,000 points (2x105K) from my account
4) The rep said that their "specialist" wasn't in the office, but she would leave detailed notes and have him do it the next day
5) True to form, the next day (today), I got an emails saying that my old certificates were canceled and new certificates were ordered.
Email clearly states that 830T certs were canceled
Second email clearly states that QP91 certs were ordered and 210K points were redeemed
Email (and account) state that the expiration is one year from today
As typical, App is up-to-date, website doesn't show the updated information yet.

Concerning use of TP for peak or off-peak, see post 2179:
The new award redemption chart will not impact Travel Packages. After these changes go into effect, you'll be able to book a hotel within the category assigned to your Travel Package, regardless of whether the dates at the hotel are in off-peak, standard or peak rates.

Called the normal customer service number and was told she couldn't edit my 7 night certificate from before the merger, she'd have to email someone to do it and will take 2-3 days. Is this normal? Fine if it is just concerned as it expires in a couple of weeks and don't want to wait days to find out she just wasted my time.

The TP certs are transferable. It's the credit card ones that (technically) aren't. Technically you are supposed to be present to collect any elite status benefits but I don't have much experience in the enforcement of this.
This is not normal. I just did an OC-to-NC conversion last week. Took 5 minutes on the phone and the agent confirmed my 1-year extension to the certificate that happened automatically as part of this process. The new cert appeared in my account immediately

Still find some value on the new travel package
Currently, the category-6 travel package requires 390,000 points for redemption which allows me to transfer 100,000 miles to a wide choice of airlines.
You need 240,000 marriott point to convert them into 100,000 airline miles. It implies that I am buying 7 nights vacation in a category-5 hotel at 150,000 marriott points. Normally, you will have to stay 7 nights in a category-4 hotel with 150,000 marriott points, which may be hardly justifiable, but it doesn't seem too much hard to find a good category-5 hotel you don't mind staying 7 nights.

1. just book whatever hotel you want in 5-night chunks
2. convert to airline miles when truly required and you have no other options for acquiring those miles

Hi Everyone,
I have a question regarding using the hotel portion of the package. How does one confirm that the certificate is properly attached?
I made a reservation with the certificate over the phone but had to move the d
Is this something that the hotel can check? Or do I have to call Marriott?
Thanks!

2. In the details of your reservation, there is a description of the points needed for your award reservation. If the points shown match the liquidation value of your certificate, it should be attached.

If you log on and pull up your reservation from the website, it should say something like this at the top!
“This reservation has e-certificate(s).
Your Reward certificates will be sent to your hotel.”

1. In the overview section of your account, there is a list of your available certificates. If the certificate is still there, it isn't attached.
2. In the details of your reservation, there is a description of the points needed for your award reservation. If the points shown match the liquidation value of your certificate, it should be attached.

Finally got a competent agent after a few HUCA and was able to properly sort things out (certificate no longer showing on account and the online rez page shows "...certificates will be sent to your hotel")

Can I confirm something. If I book a reservation, then change my mind, will I keep the certificate? I thought you could detach the certificate and keep the value, but others have said it will be cancelled with the reservation and all your value lost as a result.

If you cancel the reservation with the certificate still attached it may be lost. That's why it is imperative that you first detach the certificate, then -- only after the certificate is detached -- cancel the reservation. To be safe, do the detachment first, confirm the certificate has returned to your account, then (maybe a day later) cancel the reservation.

Trying to book a 7 night res for the lowest room type available at a residence inn. It is available on cash for my dates but on points only showing 6 of 7 nights open.
Can I book the following week and then call the hotel to adjust dates even though no award availability on the new night?
Please let me know if this may work.

Bonvoyed again
Called to convert old cert to new
1) Agent told me it had already been converted and USED therefore he could not complete the transaction, asked to speak to a supervisor "I am the one in charge tonight" (called back later after I got email and got a great agent (who was a supervisor) so clearly he was lying about this as well)
2) Told him I had 4 certs, 2 were used and 2 unused and NOT TO TOUCH THE ONE EXPIRING IN 2 WEEKS
3) Said he couldn't do anything except open a case
4) I get an email that 2 certs were CANCELLED and points show for them in my account (clearly they weren't "used" )
5) No one has authority to correct this directly that I can speak to - have to wait days for them to respond - great system that allows for more misunderstanding at every level (like the game telephone)
6) This agent alone means I will book hundreds to thousands of dollars of stays NOT AT BONVOY
7) Lifetime titanium - I have to spend hours on phone b/c incompetent agent wouldn't let me give him the codes and took actions I expressly told him not to do (touch the cert that wasn't expiring), lied to me rather than just saying I don't know or call back during the day (call was late night)

It's a combination of nobody knowing wth they are doing with these certificates and Marriott having no accountability or care about how .... their customer service is.
Try the UK number, they've been a lot more competent and nicer than the US agents I've spoken to.
