Kate will only allow load totals up to $1999.99 every 10 minutes. It does not matter if it was you or the person before you. If you go over that limit, Kate will freeze. Sept 2015- Several people have reported the 10 minute limit is now longer than 10. Not sure how much longer yet. Several Kate's have locked up following the old 10 minute rule.

9 digit pin problem - Sometimes, for unknown reasons, after you swipe your card and enter your pin, MCE will ask you for a 9 digit pin. To date, no one knows why this happens, or has a fix for it. If it repeatedly asks you for a pin, this is the same as the 9 digit pin problem and there is no fix.
Unplugging and re-booting by a supervisor doesn't fix this problem.

Select 'store experience' and be sure to include the store number and address. If you include your name and phone number the stores sometimes call when it is working again. Do not abuse this as it may lead to your MCE being removed.

How to shut Kate up by sosamo
  1. Before you press anything, plug the headphones into the jack near the pinpad
  2. The touchscreen will "gray" out, and you won't be able to press anything.
  3. Press '3' on the pinpad
  4. Press 'Enter' on the pinpad
  5. Continue business as usual on the touch screen.

Note: If you ever make a mistake, to get out, just unplug the headphone.

So I read on Yahoo that Walmart closed 5 stores due to "plumbing" issues. I didn't think much of it until I went to my Pico Rivera, CA Walmart to visit Kate.....It was one of the stores that were closed.

Kate produced a strange receipt after unload

I was on my 5th x $200 unload when Kate stopped printing complete receipt. I pulled it out and got part of it; then another part was printed with a strange combination of words and characters. And it stopped working and asked for a store manager to log in. That was my last $200, so I walked away.

What was it - Kate just broke down on me, or it detected something?

this has happened to me a lot of times especially when there's paper jam. nothing to really worry about. when it quits working, I just look for associate to re-boot and soon as she removes paper jam, everything's back to normal.

however, make sure to check your balance on your phone while there and as long as balance comes up correct, you can forget about Kate's tantrums.

Maybe just because you pulled it out so the printing was off? Was your card properly unloaded?

Yes, everything unloaded in full. If I see Kate is broken, I always ask associates/managers to fix it, but this time the MOD was the nastiest MOD, so I didn`t even want to approach her and her crazy attitude, plus I didn`t need it immediately. But I am wondering why for such low amount it broke down. Unless somebody unloaded money (which quite unlikely in my area I think) right before me and brought that "rule". But everything was unloaded and posted (I think it would reject unload otherwise).

This is 1 reason I no longer load using Kate on weekends or holidays.But instead M-F mid day = less folks doing it = less chances of Kate refusing to eat the food I bring to her

That said on Fri the Kate I used only printed a reg receipt with all the info every 5th or 6th load, but did print something with a message that the load was successful and sure enough it was.

Ive gotten my different receipts over time but if everything goes as it should then even w/o a printed receipt, Ive never found the $$ were unloaded from the card but wasnt loaded onto the BB

All of my kates ( 8 within 30 min) have been down for ages. My nearest on I've called and asked for it to be fixed and nothing has changed... About a year ago same one was down and they fixed it immediately and called me to tell me that.

With regards to plugging in my 3.5mm headphone cord, does anyone know how to go from transaction 1 to transaction 2 without having to unplug the headphones and then plug them in again? When I get to the point where my receipt spits out after transaction 1, it just sits there until I unplug the headphones, then the Kate resets and goes back to the home screen and I have to plug the headphones in again for transaction 2. ???

Anyone had trouble with the "double PIN" ??? Everything works fine till I slide my USbank gc, input pin and instead of processing it pops up another screen on pinpad asking for the pin again (this time with about 10 blank spaces). Won't take anything then. Canceled and walked away after a couple cards/try and loaded fine at MC. Thinking it's just another Kate glitch.

went to WM. Kate was actually on. There was a person using it (not for ms). I waited excitedly/patiently. Said person then BREAKS KATE!!!!!!!! Calls mgr over to fix and unable to fix. Kate now off once again. I was so.. so.. pissed off. left wm. did not even buy what i went there to buy. sigh. maybe i should just apply p/t at the mc.... or convince someone else to!

Doh! Was on mobile site and couldn't pull up Wiki. Ending up have csm reboot Kate, worked like a charm after.
